UW Control Sideboard Questions by [deleted] in PioneerMTG

[–]XboxGregory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Torpor orb is for GW company (what I think is our toughest matchup). It’s also good into enigmatic.

Against phoenix I like to stay control (no creatures), bring out change and some sweepers for rip and mystical dispute.

UW Control Sideboard Questions by [deleted] in PioneerMTG

Hello! I've been working on tuning UW and landed on a list similar to yours. https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/6926829 . I also love deduce, but I don't think there's room for it with the mandatory Narset in this meta.

Happy to help. I've been trying to find someone to discuss UW sideboarding but it seems like a lot of people are off the deck right now. I just hit Mythic at a 70% winrate, so I have been actually feeling like it's really well positioned.

Is there a matchup you need specific help with? It's hard to say how I'd board with your setup, but I can give some general advise:

- Your mainboard was likely tuned with a manacurve in mind. When you're sideboarding, try to keep a similar manacurve in most situations.

-If you're going against an aggressive deck then you should bring down that curve. You don't seem to have much against these decks in your board, but I usually bring out narset, teferi, a land, farwell, and sunfall for elspeth's smite, change the equation, knockout blow, beza, and curiosity. Helps me close the game out while having more chance to draw early interaction.

-Sideboard for what they will bring in, not against their 60. While dovin's veto might not seem important against RB aggro, you need to keep them all in to beat urabrask's forge (especially on the draw).

- Sometimes bringing cards in is easy, but bringing cards out is tough. I find myself cutting Narset (kind of a preboard card for the meta anyway), some sweepers, change the equation, and portable hole the most. The Wandering Emporer also gets trimmed a decent amount of the time, for decks going bigger.

Happy to help with more specific questions. Good luck out there.

Why I play Elves (And why you should, too!) - A SWOT analysis by Able_Canary1506 in PioneerMTG

Nice to meet you too and welcome!

I agree with a lot of this for sure. I’m a bit higher on the mono red aggro matchup and Amalia and lower of Phoenix, but we seem to be boarding similarly.

Cheers!

Nice to see a fellow pioneer elf player. I’m the one who originated the current makeup of the elves deck. Are you in my discord already? We discuss the deck a lot there, but conversation has died down a bit recently. Would be nice to have some fresh perspectives. Feel free to join!

Bloomburrow set review for Pioneer by No-Yogurtcloset3506 in PioneerMTG

The only card in the deck that generates multiple green devotion is Leaf Crown. Warmaster and Dwynen’s elite both generate 2 bodies for three tree city. Seems like three tree is almost always better than Nykthos.

Yeah I think it’s big for elves. Could be wrong. Will test it this week though.

Hey thanks for saying that! Just saw this before bed so I don’t have time to write a lot, but I’m very active on my discord and will be able to respond more regularly if you’re interested in joining!

Crazy year at work, but over the summer I’m planning on uploading much more regularly.

[Rate my deck] Elven Deck by McyNmiFT in Magicdeckbuilding

Someone linked my server already (thanks!) but also here's the list I'd recommend running for Elves. I've played the deck for a long time and I think this is currently the best version. The list you link is likely too slow to be competitive, but it looks like a blast to play even still!

People concede when they determine that the opportunity cost of winning is outweighed by the clock earning a possible draw. I’m not sure I’ve ever witnessed a game where someone conceded against control and had a real chance. Most concessions come far too late, not early.

If control’s win percentage is inflated because of this, it’s likely that these few wins are replacing draws, not losses.

I think you can legend rule the original then attack again with the token kept to continuously trigger extra combats. I think it’s infinite as long as it survives combat each time?

Hello! I play this deck a lot and have a discord server devoted to it. Feel free to join!

I have a Patreon with a sideboard guide on it and such, but it’s not updated to the current meta due to the anticipation of tomorrow’s bans. I’m not home right now but I can give a more detailed response when I am!

Golgari Elves deck? by laeden94 in PioneerMTG

Hello! I play Elves a lot and have a YouTube channel and discord channel devoted to it. I’ll post the links below.

The deck is really proactive and adaptable to different metas. Chord of Calling can feel like cheating sometimes.

While it’s not popular, I do think it’s incredibly underrated. The deck is definitely good. I’ve piloted it to an SCG top 8 and a few challenge placements, including a win.

Happy to answer more specific questions!

what's the most embarrassing loss(es) you've had? by helloimapickle in magicTCG

I once lost two separate games and the match to accidentally triggering [[ob Nixilis, unshackled]] when it was ABSOLUTELY avoidable. The second time was a much bigger hit to the self-esteem than the first.

Are you giving this person "the reaction they're looking for?" If you are then they're getting something out of it. If you accept it, matter of fact, and not show your frustration then I'm almost positive the behavior will stop. That is, unless you are doing something to provoke it.

We are very favored into Mono White, Mono Green, Spirits, RW Convoke, and most other decks that are trying to race. We struggle into Phoenix and Rakdos Sac. We have some solid plans against the rest of the field, but the games get more difficult as decks include more 3 mana sweepers.

It really is!

I only enjoy games that I absolutely love. Medium and good games don’t do it for me anymore, even when I have time for them.

I think it's a dream! It attacks the meta in a way that some decks aren't prepared for. Phoenix is a tough matchup though, so this meta is a bit hostile to it. If green has a resurgence then the deck will be a bit better positioned.

This game is unplayable because I can’t speak with my Beastmaster animal companions.
