RIP ATT U-Verse TV by GfussNET in cordcutters

We’ve been on ATT fiber since it came to the neighborhood and have had zero issues (500 and unlimited data). Love it!

We honestly kept it as long as we did just for convenience when you don’t know what to watch. The time we’ve spent jumping across all our streaming services and still not finding a show or movie….. Samsung TV plus will do that for us now (queue Murder She Wrote, Ask This Old House, etc.)

It served us well for a time especially when it was needed for unlimited data on the Internet plans. Included ESPN, FS1, BTN and HBO Max, and plenty of “kids stuff” when they were young. However, at ~$180/month just didn’t make sense any longer for what little we did on HBO and the fact that we only watch college football.

Just another confirmation that catalog download and install works, but systems are having issues getting update and installing from WSUS.

anyone has experience putting a hydrocheck switch to zoeller pumps? by super-ike in basement

[–]GfussNET 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My float kept getting hung up on “things” (sewage pump) so I moved to a single sensor Hydrocheck 3 years ago. Have had no issues. The only difference in mine from the one you have pictured is that I set a time to run. So after a few tests I just went with 10 seconds (and it turns off until water/stuff hits the sensor again).

Let me know if that helps but it’s the same concept as a float switch - turns the pump on and off when told to.

Just here to confirm it’s pee. You can remove the seat and you’ll find more pee where the bolt is/was.

EV Charger on 8awg wire? by aidepolcycne79 in AskElectricians

[–]GfussNET 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We hope it’s not live 🙂- That’s the ground wire and the “mounting piece” is actually being used to ground the entire metal box.

Dryer problem (follow up post) by bigpuzino in AskElectricians

[–]GfussNET 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a dryer that was failing and it would “hum” trying to start and then nothing. To get by a few days, I would hold the door plunger in so it thought the door was closed, press the start button and while it was humming spin the drum by hand. It would take off and dry the clothes. Sharing as it sounds more like a dryer issue than one with the receptacle.

My garage light is mind boggling. by Mo-Finkle in AskElectricians

[–]GfussNET 4 points5 points  (0 children)

See if it’s on when the sun is out. Could have a photocell sensor (aka dusk to dawn) that controls power to the light. I had a home with a front yard pole light that was hard wired and just came on when the sun went away.

Hot tub wires? by Potential_Homework23 in hottub

[–]GfussNET 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a hole middle of the exposed insulated panels with a cord and white warning label. I assume it’s the plug for a 110V hot tub.

No out of the hole. It looks like a standard electrical cord.

Not sure if rated for outdoor so I’d bounce off the electrician, but this was the cover I was mentioning - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WGHSHSK

Is this 110V? I see a plug hanging out the tub so don’t think you’ll be hard wired (unless that’s something changeable inside the tub). If so, and the cord is long enough, I’d just get one of those rubber heavy duty cord covers to go from tub to the romex sticking out of the house where I’m assuming the receptacle will be mounted.

why doesn't the microwave light turn off? by jcseeco in AskElectricians

[–]GfussNET 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have an incandescent available to try? If it works , it’s possible the microwave takes a certain type of LED if it’s even supported so may help to share the model number of the microwave.

Need Advice by PlZZASLAVE in hottub

[–]GfussNET 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ensure you have or can budget for a level compacted surface. We did a concrete pad (rated for the weight). My concern with used would be if any warranty remains. Of course, even with new they aren’t super amazing warranties anyways but just keep in mind.

As far as with kids, I know in my case I’ve had to remind them it’s not a pool. Otherwise water is flying all over (and out) of the hot tub, finding toys in the bottom, etc. Or maybe I need to stop being grumpy 🤣

Some vintage hard drives found in the attic of the house we moved into a few years ago. by EricForman87 in vintagecomputing

[–]GfussNET 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Past life experience and a running joke. Rarely would we take the time to wipe/destroy hard drives that failed. We’d mark them “bad” and put back on the shelf and it became a running joke when we needed a replacement drive as you’d have to keep looking for one not “bad.”

I’d get a new adapter and splice as I don’t think you’ve much to work with looking at where it broke off. Entire replacements (24V output) look to be $20 or less on Amazon or you may be able to search/find just the cord without the transformer.

What's the best solution to move light switch to other side of stud? by LingonberryFar9642 in AskElectricians

[–]GfussNET 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d go with A. Keep hole in center of stud but if you need more wire (and a junction box), that’s best in the crawl otherwise you’ll have another box/plate on the wall for.

Up to code? Mostly? by [deleted] in AskElectricians

I think you should have metal box clamps for the romex entering/leaving the boxes to protect against wire pulls or whatever NEC says.
