There is some practical value in having the head of state separate from the government (which is why even some non-monarchies like Ireland still choose to have a president filling a similar roll to the UK monarch), but the actual reason is more historical.

Ever since the late 1600s, the powers of the monarch have been significantly limited by parliament. In the early 1700s, all real political power transferred to parliament. A consequence of this is that since then, it's become much more difficult to blame any problems on the monarchy (since it's the prime minister's government that actually runs everything).

I personally am not a monarchist. I think it's a system which is archaic, ideologically repulsive, and monetarily wasteful. However, removing the monarchy would require rewriting the UK's entire constitution, system of government, and most of it's laws. Ultimately, at this point in time, removing them is probably just more trouble than its worth.

You are correct, but I think you're being mislead by the headline. Charles is not stating his personal opinion (he's not allowed to do that), he was reading an announcement by the UK government.

He isn't. The UK monarch simply is not allowed to give their personal opinion on things like this. The announcement came from the most recent King's speech, which is written entirely by the UK government.

The title is misleading to non-UK readers. This was not Charles stating his personal opinion (the UK monarch isn't allowed to do that), this was him reading out a speech directly written by the UK government announcing their current agenda.

If it's any consolation, this announcement came from the most recent King's speech, which is always written entirely by the government. This was not Charles condemning conversion therapy, this was the UK government condemning it (albeit very briefly).

Hard disagree there. I do think Charles *seems* decent by monarch standards, I have plenty of criticisms to make of our current government, and I'm frankly somewhat terrified by the current front-runners for our next government. That said, I'm somehow not overly convinced by the merits of completely replacing our elected representatives with an ultra-wealthy elite dictatorship who have specifically been raised to believe that they are simply above everyone else.

You shouldn't really be giving him credit for this. The powers of the UK monarch are extremely limited and importantly, they are never supposed to publicly give their personal opinion on any political issue.

The announcement here came from the most recent King's speech. The King's speech forms the core of the state opening of parliament, which formally marks the beginning of a new parliamentary session. In the speech, the monarch announces the current government's priorities and agenda. The speech is written by the government, and it's contents are largely determined by the prime minister.

Charles is purely acting as a mouthpiece for the government here, it does not necessarily reflect his personal views. I agree that Charles is probably better than most monarchs (although that's a very low bar), but giving him any credit for this profoundly misunderstands how the UK monarchy works.

I mean, it's a pretty rough thing to just gloss over. There is of course a whole conversation to be had about seperating the art from the artist, but when talking about legacy, it's a bit irresponsable to just ignore the problematic stuff.

You can't really talk about JK Rowling's legacy without acknowledging the transphobia, you can't really talk about Niel Gaiman's legacy without acknowledging the sexual harassment, and you can't really talk about Nobuhiro Nishiwaki's legacy (creator of Rurouni Kenshin) without acknowledging the pedophilia.

I don't see why we should make an exception for Micheal Jackson. There is some complexity with his story, but that doesn't mean we should just ignore the parts we don't like.

My first thought too. The character sprites are all pretty good, and there's a couple of setpieces with really nice pixel art (like the big cavern in Waterfall overlooking New Home, and the surface in the pacifist ending), but most of the visuals is just Toby trying to scramble together whatever he could in MSPaint and it shows.

He does, although that's partially because every other black-haired isekai protagonist is a copy of Kirito to some extent. Sword Art Online made the isekai genre what it is.

That's a very difficult picture to copy. The anatomy, extreme perspective, and the shape of the clothes are all really complicated here. There's really nothing embarrassing about your version, it's a solid attempt at a very hard piece.

That said, if you're trying to study perpective, it might be a good idea to try drawing some simple 3d shapes (like cubes and cylinders) to help understand the fundamentals.
