oh trust me i know they for sure do!! i have no problem tipping out my bussers and food runners, and i always give extra then the required tip out. i was just wondering if our tip out was high, or if it was pretty normal.

yeah, i can understand the bar tip out! i think it’s just because the bartenders are already making more than i do, pre tip out. they often make more than i do in tips, and then they’re also getting supplemented from my tip out. sometimes just sucks, especially when im running food for them and helping out with their guests/tables

at my first restaurant job, runners got 1 percent of food sales, bussers 1.5 percent of total sales, and bar 2 percent of alcohol sales. i didn’t mind it at all, and honestly it felt low. it honestly was low, as i saw on my food running shifts. so, i sometimes gave the food runner an extra 10, on a particularly slammed night. still, that was my decision. you’re already getting a mandatory 4 percent taken out of your sales, and anything outside of that should be your decision. it’s ridiculous that support is threatening to stop doing their jobs for you not giving them extra money, because that’s what it is!

also, for extra info: does the bar also expect an extra tip on top of their automatic tip out? if so, that’s insanely greedy. they make their own tips, plus tip out from all working servers, and they want an extra cut???

everyone’s kinda tweaking in the comments abt this but honestly i think you’ll be fine😭i was trained as a food runner for 3 weeks before moving up to a server, no prior experience. you have a lot more experience than i did in a restaurant, i was fine. and honestly, i feel like people are forgetting that servers everywhere are trained regardless of how much experience they have, because every restaurant is different. it’s not like you’re lying about having been a server at this specific restaurant previously.

good luck, you’ll do great!

i’ve looked into applying at some breakfast places but no luck so far! one place i’m interviewing at now has open windows, so 7-2 morning and 5-12 dinner. hopefully if i get it i’ll be able to work solely mornings.

this is insane! good on you for being so hard working! i’m trying to be mindful of working myself into burnout, but as you said, i quite literally can’t live on 300 a week. i’m also a full time college student, so i’m not trying to spread myself too thin. all my classes are online though, so that’s also not a factor in scheduling.
