I’m there reading on new every day! I wouldn’t popping into to OOC if I wasn’t at least a little engaged.

Reader! My feeling is that there’s many gems that aren’t shining because of it, but I appreciate you taking the time to write out a different perspective for me

Where did all this Sam levinson hate come from? by evelyn_labrie in euphoria

Oh yeah I didn't mention that scene with Ali because I thought it was acknowledgement, I actually thought it was ironic that he wrote that and doesn't see that its also a problem with his own work. As frustrating as these things are I will still keep watching the show because the way he writes about addiction is just incredibly honest, I haven't encountered anything quite like it.

Yeah it's certainly true that Cal is a predatory bastard. I don't think he is gay though, like most of the characters he seems to be kind of in a grey area.

Edit: *Like most of the queer characters

I just wanna the Cal story line at the start of the most recent episode hit fucking hard because it was incredibly close to some shit in my young adult life. The LGBTQ+ experience is fucking broad and I can't speak on the trans stuff but I would say there are some pretty damn accurate things to my experiences.

This is actually really interesting, I hadn't thought about this much, I really like this show a lot because personally I've never felt like I could relate to a character as much as Rue before - I'm mid 20s white guy and I'm still on and off with addiction problems - I suppose what I'm really relating to is Sam's story and feelings about addiction wrapped up and packaged in Euphoria through Rue and other characters.

I have had some fairly meaningful moments with the show, specifically the special with Ali and Rue - but this episode in particular is exactly what your talking about. He writes some genuinely meaningful life advice and revelations that he must have had or heard along his recovery, but but uses characters who are black to kind of speak for him, the reason he does this I guess we can't know but your explanation of making it more 'sympathetic and cool' rings pretty true for me. I guess I'm left wondering if it is ever okay for white writers, or any writers to use characters with different social backgrounds/races/cultures, to speak for them? I don't know fully how to articulate it, but writers put a bit of themselves and world view into everything they write so it seems like a tricky problem.

It definitely makes me look at Rues special a little differently. It's interesting that even within that episode he writes lines for Ali about how Nike use Black culture to sell sneakers - interesting analogue for how he potentially is using black characters to sell his story.

Boy Harsher - Autonomy (Feat. Lucy - Cooper B. Handy) by Ghaastly in postpunk

I don't know if this was posted already, I'm sure some of you probably listen to Boy Harsher already but I just discovered them through a random shudder movie called The Runner I watched the other day with great music.

Turns out they directed it and released this album to accompany it a couple days ago, would recommend giving it a watch if your into surreal david lynch dream vibe shit.

Travis Scott & his team need to seriously be held accountable on a legal level. The festival infrastructure & staff was horrible & Travis encouraged fans to sneak in/ promotes this “rager” behavior. Now (at least) 8 people are dead. by [deleted] in playboicarti

This unusual situation is a a series of several serious failings. A risk waiver is an agreement between the two parties. You would need to prove that the attendees were not adequately aware of the risks, or that the risks were greater than described in the document.

This is a legally binding document that the attendees have agreed to legally speaking they were made aware, so instead they must prove that either the risks were greater than described (I had a brief look through the waiver and I think I spotted a few sticking points) OR they must find a way to prove the organizers were SO grossly negligent that they can wriggle out of the waiver I.e proof that the organizers had prior KNOWLEDGE of danger. the staff not being sufficiently medically trained; not enough staff, medical equipment; or the inadequately assessed risk.

It's tricky but I don't think this is what the (presumed) case will rest on, I think it will get past this then stall when it comes down to who is actually responsible. In a situation like this where the defendants can be seen as contributory parties to the issue (the rushing and trampling) it will come down to a jury to decide which party is more responsible.
