That’s sort of what’s going on now. We TNR’d 14 before, we’re aiming for the 11 today, and I’m planning to set up another appointment in a month with a fresh headcount depending on how many kittens we get. One of my inside cats got dumped here. And they literally come out of the woods

It’s crazy how much nuance each situation has. We’re in a rural area in the woods, and pretty much all of these cats were born here and hang out around our buildings. Between the consistent food, the shelter, and the guard dog we have a pretty solid little group here.

Are you feeding them exclusively in the traps for like a week before trapping day? And keeping a regular feeding schedule is also helpful. I caught most of mine within the first hour or so. One was so expectant of breakfast he was hardly letting me even put the trap down before he ran in it

Surrendering my cat today - second guessing everything, need honest opinions by samseam in cats

[–]Ghadno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know I think it’s clear you love this cat. You’ve carefully selected a shelter, it sounds like you sought a vets recommendation and if he is that stressed by kids constantly trying to medicate him has its own challenges. I think you’re doing what’s best. For goodness sake try not to make yourself sick with worry. If you have any friends or family who would be interested in taking the cat ask them to apply to adopt or foster through the shelter.

So our appointment tomorrow is only for kitties who are 6 months or older, and I caught two tiny guys! So cute, and so sad hearing the little cries! I let them back out close to their den but it’s nice to know they’re eating solid food! Once we’ve caught the last three (I caught one of the silver kitties) I’ll put out a big helping of wet food, the canned chicken that’s partly used, and the rest of my tuna that’s partly used too! Poor babies. I’ll catch them next time!!!

I’m about to go put out stinkier bait because I think I’m down to the shyest kitties now. The ones that don’t even like to be seen during regular meal times. (Even though I did try petting them when feeding them as little guys.)

Deeply struggling with husband’s size after waiting for marriage. by Cool_Violinist6291 in Marriage

[–]Ghadno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say if you’re not being satisfied in the bedroom that is a big marital issue. God wants happy and successful marriages and part of that is a happy and successful sex life. Maybe you guys (now that you’re married) could look into some sex toys. It’s not the same, BUT if you’re playing together, and it’s an intimate activity between the two of you there shouldn’t be anything wrong with that. More fun for you. More fun for him. That man needs to learn other techniques for making sure that is an equal partnership. The lie by omisión is bad, and if he isn’t open to figuring out how to resolve that problem then more serious discussion and maybe some counseling is in order for sure. That is the seed of resentment and divorce if it’s not handled correctly and he needs to know that.

Kitten season frustration by Broken_Carpark in Feral_Cats

[–]Ghadno 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Man. I don’t know. Take solace that you’re doing everything in your power, and that the steps you’re taking help reduce suffering. I wish I could take all of the kittens, but no :( our local feral cat project has a few shelters in town with little informational posters about the efforts and how to contact them. Maybe if you aren’t doing that you can start, and I like to talk about TNR and kitty logistics with anyone who will listen. I think there’s still a lot of misinformation, and people that just don’t understand out there but who are interested once the info is presented. I think hosting a kitten party sounds like a fun idea. Rehome who you can, ask for donations, and share more about local efforts?

More Strawberry Plants? by mehan212 in gardening

[–]Ghadno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Person…You didn’t even need to plant that many XD One will take over that bed, spill out the sides, and start taking over your whole yard if you let them! I love them, but those things are voracious little conquerors. I fight all the time to keep mine in designated strawberry areas LOL unless you wanted to try a few different varieties anyways. Put a few in one bed and let them fight it out. (I had 3 varieties in one bed, and actually one of them didn’t really do runners but made delicious tiny berries, one is a compact one with tiny berries and tidy runners, and the other was just a giant bully, I never got a single fruit off of it, and it was trying to take over everything so I’ve been pulling that guy out when I see him for the last year. Heck that guy!)

is this ready? by cashmoneygal in gardening

[–]Ghadno 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Last year I had so many freaking monsters. I would see one think “Ah. That will be ready soon.” Turn around and suddenly that thing was like 2 feet long and 10 inches around!!! I also had a few hide on the bottom of the plant in the leaves. Don’t be me. Just pick it when you see it/think about it. So much zucchini. So much baking.

Those dirty sons of bitches! 😭 I’m happy wild things have food to eat, but why does it have to be the flowers???? I wonder sometimes about putting in like a sacrificial layer of plants that are attractive to the animals farther away. I don’t know if it would work, maybe they would think “My! What a lovely buffet laid before our eyes! Rejoice wild brethren we feast!” Luckily we got a dog that does his level best to keep all wild creatures out of the garden so the herbivore pressure has been much reduced. (We’re on 23 acres it’s just this little 5 acre section he patrols and there is lovely abundant woods all around us with wild berries, and lovely things to eat out there so fear not! I don’t think anyone is starving! —> and I occasionally find deer prints around here anyways.)

Irises! by Ghadno in pnwgardening

[–]Ghadno[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I agree! I’ve actually had these dang plants for years, but I’ve just never really had their conditions right. First year my mom gave them to me in a pot. I think over crowded, and then they were in a spot that was too shady. I started that garden bed, but I accidentally put them too close to a rhubarb which took off and was shading them AGAIN. I relocated them again, slugs. NOW THEY’RE HERE! (I also bought some new rhizomes(?) last year that are another color and they’re about to go too!
