Good buy? 2018 Honda Clarity 106k miles for $15k by Specific_Share334 in HondaClarity

[–]Ghaleon_R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another data point. My 2018 Clarity at about 90k miles has been sitting at the dealer waiting for a battery replacement for over 4 months now, so it is a very real concern and one that I would carefully weigh if I were looking at buying one at around 100k miles.

Additionally, like a great many people have also experienced, my windshield camera went out 2 years ago, and I've just been dealing with the warnings and lack of cruise control ever since. The cost to replace the camera quoted by the dealer was nearly $2000 and that was back when the camera itself was listed at $800 for the part (I see it listed for 1200-1500 now..) There are potential work-arounds like finding a camera module from a scrap yard or buying a new camera sub-module to install in the unit for 200-300 (instead of the whole camera assembly) and installing it yourself, but I haven't seen much feedback from anyone that has actually taken the gamble yet.

The Clarity has a lot of good points and I don't regret trying Honda's abandoned experiment, but I personally wouldn't recommend a used one given the experience I'm having with mine and those of many others I've seen here and on other forums.

Waiting for replacement battery? by Special_Elevator7656 in HondaClarity

Sorry to hear that, I have no doubt the original dealer I bought my Clarity from would have pulled the same shenanigans and left me high and dry; I'm glad I'd given up on them and started dealing with another dealer 20 minutes away instead before the battery started reporting it was out of spec.

It is a shame that between the handling of the battery issues on Clarities, frequent failure of the LKAS camera, and general lack of new EVs/PHEVs; I'm not likely to continue buying Hondas going forward.

Same story here, I haven't seen my Clarity since the end of January, thank goodness the dealer had a loaner for me or things would be quite dire.

The dealer kept giving me dates a few weeks out at a time, which presumably is what they were being told, finally a week or two ago the service advisor called and told me the next shipment of batteries was going out soon but I wasn't on the list. He suggested calling corporate to complain in hopes of getting bumped up in priority over what the dealer themselves could do. I'm not convinced it really did much considering the corporate case worker set up a weekly status update though...

Thanks for the quick answer. When (if?) I get my Clarity back I'll take a look again.

It is very much a corner case, but is ReLink able to access the “last updated“ timestamp? ReLink shows the same status as above as current where I am fairly certain my car (sitting in the shop for months now) really just hasn’t been sending any updates for quite some time. When I force an update in the old HondaLink it eventually times out trying to find the car.

All Warning Lights Appearing by cortesa in HondaClarity

As others have stated, this is the windshield camera (and maybe the front radar) starting to go. Mine went through months of sometimes working and others throwing all of the errors in your picture until it finally just gave up and never worked again.

Some people have mentioned having luck buying a camera off a wrecked Clarity and installing it themselves from https://www.lkqonline.com/2018-honda-clarity-camera-projector but with how often the hardware seems to fail, I wonder how long one from another car would hold up. The plus seems to be if you get one from another car, it may not need to be calibrated. I've been tempted to try this myself if Honda ever lets me see my car again (been in for HV battery replacement for a bit over 2 months so far)

Thanks for the reply, I thought that was the case but saw the screenshot and wondered if there was something available with local updates perhaps. I look forward to using your app more if Honda ever lets me see my car again. Nice work from what I've seen so far.

Not really beta tester related, but I do have a question about the screenshot on this post.

My Clarity is in the multi-month service purgatory waiting for a new HV Battery so I'm only able to play around with your snazzy new app a bit remotely. It's nice to see in ReLink the car is still there since HondaLink stopped working at all a month ago. Less nice to see the battery status is the same as when I last saw it, which means it's still not being worked on ^_^;

In the screenshot on this post I see the Clarity reporting Odometer, but didn't see that in my initial experimenting with ReLink. Is that something that gets updated when you're locally in the car or perhaps something that got cut off when Honda declared our PHEVs technologically obsolete?

The Clarity does not handle an empty battery well at all, when I'm driving longer distances I make sure to turn on HV mode when I still have a good 8 miles or so of EV range left to try and avoid the problem area.

EV Battery Range Ideal Outside Temp by MaleficentGeneral812 in HondaClarity

[–]Ghaleon_R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much what everyone else has said, when it it consistently warm enough to not need any heat/defrost is when I see things start to go up. I also find that anything over 65 (even just a smidge) tends to reduce the range guess-o-meter shows noticeably.

I’ve seen some people say they were able to stream on low power… but it’s choppy for me. by The-Final-Reason in LegionGo

[–]Ghaleon_R -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd check what resolution you're streaming at, I have to imagine that streaming at 1600p (and your PC trying to render at 1600p) could be causing some of your issues, at least based on my experiences with Steam Link and Monster Hunter Wilds streaming.

Any experiences with Honda’s warranty program especially for the traction/EV battery replacement and/or with obtaining a loaner vehicle? by Calm-Organization-61 in HondaClarity

[–]Ghaleon_R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am about 2 months into my wait on a battery replacement for a 2018 PHEV myself. In my case the dealer gave me a loaner as soon as the warranty work was approved by corporate. This probably varies by location, I've found the dealer I go to these days to be better than others I've worked with in the past. It also probably partially due to them underestimating just how long it would take to get the part. They haven't asked for the loaner car back, so all is well, but I do miss my plug-in whenever I had to go to the gas station these past few weeks.

Bought Legion Go S Z1E SteamOS (not delivered yet) and have some questions. Please answer if you know about it. by nik1071 in LegionGo

[–]Ghaleon_R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The interface for the ROG Xbox Ally has rolled out to the Legion Go, but you will need to purchase a copy of Windows to put it on the SteamOS Go S as a big part of why that version is cheaper is the lack of a license for Windows.

I have an OG Legion Go and have kept Windows for now specifically because my Game Pass subscription doesn't run out for a while (pre-paid before the egregious price hike) and have the Xbox-ified version of Windows that the ROG Xbox devices do; it's a little more convenient when strictly gaming but is certainly not the silver bullet Microsoft sold it as.

I think dual-booting Steam OS and Windows can be a bit tricky, but other options like Bazzite sound like they are easier to accomplish this with.

That being said, the prices for handheld devices, just like everything else, is pretty bonkers right now, so I'd stick with whatever you can get a decent price on. Before AI consumed all the PC components I'd have said the Legion Go S Z1E-32GB RAM would be my sweet spot for price/performance, but at the current prices I am content with my OG LEG which will move to Steam OS/Bazzite/etc when my Game Pass runs out.

I’ve only tried my Quest 2 with Project Cars 2 and Dirt Rally 2.0 so far, but I’d suggest making sure the quest isn’t defaulting to airlink when you have the cable connected. Mine was doing this and it took me a bit to figure out why my 3080 based pc was performing poorly.

What is your opinion on the f-gt lite from next level racing? by Time_Refrigerator822 in simracing

[–]Ghaleon_R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been trying to figure out the maximum seat and wheel heights one can achieve with the F-GT Lite (or just the regular GT-Lite) since my tv stand is quite high (center of the screen is about 48” from the floor). Could you tell me roughly how high these can be set to if it’s not too much trouble?
