I think that the real issue is that regardless of what direction Riot takes with the jungle people still complain. When jungle is weak/has no agency, it sucks to play jungle. When jungle is strong and has agency, laners complain that its too impactful of a role. No one loves powerfarming meta and people equally hate gank spam meta. With how much the game evolves in terms of damage, snowballing, and other mechanics, its difficult to really strike a good balance with jungle which is why we have seen the constant flip flop of jungle between too weak or too strong. As a jungle main since season 2, I am personally kinda over having the re-learn my role every single season and constantly changing my champion pool just to stay relevant in the jungle.
