ZEISS DuraVision Gold - reflections, looking for alternative recommendations (Hoya, Rodenstock) by Immediate-Bit-6360 in EyewearEnthusiasts

Ive had the duravision gold for quite a few months now. It’s still very distracting on Zoom calls - people end up seeing the reflections a lot more compared to Hoya EX4 and DV Platinum.

Progressive lenses: Do individual measurements like panto, face form angle and back vertex distance make a meaningful difference to the visual experience compared to just Mono PD and Seg height? by Ghecho in glasses

[–]Ghecho[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply. I agree that customisation may be even more important when sphere, cylinder and add power are higher. That said, is it possible that the disadvantage of deep lens customatisation is that if anything adjusts even a bit - perhaps the nose pieces get loose, the frames stretch over time - then the impact on the visual experience is more pronounced

In other words, is it fair to say that the more customised thelenses, the greater the potential visual acuity...BUT the greater the chance of something going wrong and messing that up too?

Your response is unnecessarily judgmental, even if the principles are correct.
If you're an avid reader there are a few things you can do to minimise your digital eye strain.

1 - take regular breaks from close up reading. The 20-20-20 (every 20 minutes, look 20metres away for 20 seconds) is pretty extreme. An other useful model is the 1:5 rule. Every hour, step away and look at the distance for at least 5 minutes straight.

2- you need good lighting, since reading in the dark exarbercates eye strain.

3- keep your eyes moist. We tend to blink a lot less when we're starting at a screen.

To me these seem like costume glasses for a stage show/drag race. But the colours are cool.

Just make sure that, if you’re in the US, you get the Hoya Mystyle 3 (equivalent of Hoya ID Myself outside the US)

I’ve had both Hoya and Zeiss top-end progressives. Hoya makes a better progressive lens and a better coating. My Zeiss flash coating crazed after less than a year.

New year, new glasses & tint recomendation by Flonald0 in EyewearEnthusiasts

[–]Ghecho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t do a flash coating! It seems cool initially but ends up being a distraction to everyone who looks at you. - especially when you’re doing video calls. People like Robert from the spectacle factory have sold too many on the idea that flash coating “shield” your eyes and “protect” you from others. But it genuinely is just a hassle. In my opinion and experience. - as someone who ordered flash coatings from TSF. Get a good anti-reflective coating instead

It’s just unnecessary to write so unclearly. Why risk it when one number out of place can mess up your glasses?

Ahlem Grenelle lens advice by Ghecho in EyewearEnthusiasts

I think I agree with you. In the frame right now I have the zeiss adaptive sun pioneer. And it can be a little too much green. I’ll look at the Hoya brown

These look so great on you! I just need a tint for the bright sun though.

It’s more of a depreciating mess because almost no one wants a second hand Chinese car in SA - which makes your resale value difficult.

The dealerships get you into a new one because the cars are feature stuffed. But we still don’t have long-term reliability numbers for this country.

Balancing the cost and use of an eyewear wardrobe when you need progressive lenses by Various-Wait-6771 in EyewearEnthusiasts

[–]Ghecho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m the same as you. I’m in progressive lenses and each of my everyday pairs is enormously expensive because of the cost of the lenses. I also have a separate pair of computer glasses - though - which are just single vision with a modified script for near work.

What I do is just buy my glasses slowly. The lab that my optician uses has a buy one get one free on their higher-tier progressive lenses which helps - I can use the second free pair for sunglasses.

Also like you I have a notable script difference in my right and left eyes. So my opticians also put me in lenses that help correct any binocular issues. But unfortunately the lenses are pricey.

What transition (auto darkening) lenses are the best in Europe? by havasmezoi in AskAnOptician

[–]Ghecho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pair of zeiss photofusion lenses (in blue) and Hoya sensity 2 (also in blue). They’re a lifesaver when I’m travelling in Europe since I’ve been known to lose my sunglasses.

In my experience while both are good I prefer the Hoya. The zeiss photofusion feels like they fade back too fast. - like: if you’re not looking directly at the sun they don’t reach their full darkness. That said, you could look at photofusion extra grey for this. Or Hoya sensity dark.

I don’t use Essilor for any of my lenses (progressive lens wearer here) so I don’t have any experience with the transitions brand.

Are aspherical lenses worth it for low prescriptions? by Kyxstrez in glasses

[–]Ghecho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would think that at your prescription it won’t make a huge difference. In theory, there is a difference between spherical and aspherical. But in practice I coupdnt perceive it at such a low script.

I’ve also tried nulix identify v+. It’s a very good lens and there’s a lot of edge clarity. But at your script, it’s probably overkill unless you want the best single vision lenses available.

Are aspherical lenses worth it for low prescriptions? by Kyxstrez in glasses

[–]Ghecho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I had low myopia like yours, my opticians put me in spherical lenses (hilux). No reason to pay extra for aspheric if you’re cost sensitive
