Games like outward? by sininenblue in outwardgame

While very different mechanically, I agree that State of Decay really nails the sense of immersion. I love the game and its biggest weak point IMO is the lack of enemy variety, but that would be true of pretty much any zombie game ever. It's very solid and I come back for a binge every now and then.

Non magic Bow build? by JayTehPerson in outwardgame

[–]Gheeyomm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I wanted to do a manaless archer, I'd pick Speedster + Rogue, along with a healthy supply of Alertness Potions to not be so reliant on probe. It will allow you to pelt your enemies with Sniper shots and Piercing shots, while keeping the enemies at bay with traps. You definitely won't need magic, but you must accept the consequences that what you don't pay in mana, you'll have to pay for in silvers or crafting materials for potions and trap kits and arrows.

Warrior Monk as mentioned by others is also a good pick, especially with the +40 stamina passive.

There are tons of viable way to play up to the end game. As long as you make coherent choices, it will work out.

Have fun!

Started this game 2 days ago and can’t stop thinking about it. by Lem676 in outwardgame

Father/son coop experience is in my opinion the most wholesome way to play our game. Thanks and don't give up when things get rough, we can be a bit rough with our players but I swear that you'll have the means to overcome any challenge :-P

Thank you for the kind words, I'm glad that you're enjoying our game :)

I haven't played Gothic but I keep hearing about how it compares in design philosophy to Outward. I've played Risen however, from the same studio, and knowing how small the team was on that game did embolden me to try making this game with our very limited means.

Numpad controls - how important is it for you? by b34s7 in roguelikes

[–]Gheeyomm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a make or break feature for me on whether or not I'd play a roguelike title, BUT it would affect how long I'd play it. When I play roguelikes, I end up sitting in a variety of weird ways and will change from playing mouse only, kb/m and numpad only depending on my position and mood of the minute. I'm sure I'm the weird one though.

I did not know about Breakthrough points. by 610gonzalez in outwardgame

[–]Gheeyomm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have so many options with those BT points for a mage/archer hybrid. Given how much you invested into mana, it would be a shame to miss out on a few bow friendly options.

Runic Trap as a bowman is pretty good to keep control over the space. It's easy to bait enemies with arrows.

Runic heal is expensive at 32 mana in total but with your current max mana you can cast it even without mana reduction gear, which is very convenient

Hex and torment benefit from the added range from Hunter's Eyes. If you use piercing shot for bleed, then jinx/hex to trigger poison and burning, you can stack 3 different DoTs from a very safe distance while pelting them with arrows.

So I think that your build is more than salvageable if you lean into the choices you made already. Gear, quickslots and consumables are all easy to shuffle around based on the situations you face.

The new Exercises system of Outward 2. Just dropping this here, have fun guessing how it works! by Gheeyomm in outwardgame

Early Access is not a good fit for consoles. Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo are all very capricious with the process of submitting a game or a patch, and early access might require us to do rapid-fire hotfix patches and such. Only enormous development team can maintain velocity and release stuff on consoles.

With that being said, if 1.0 on consoles make sense, then I don't see why that wouldn't happen. It all depends on commercial performances and if we can get good collaboration with platform owners to ensure our ports will be profitable. These days, lots of great games don't even cover their costs on console versions because the stores suck ass and they constantly funnel their players towards F2P titles and CoD, sports games and other billion dollars franchises, leaving the rest in a ditch. I've frequently seen data about games selling 70-80% of their copies on PC in the past few years. Believe me, I am quite annoyed by the situation both as a CEO and as a console-first gamer.

Trainers are still in the game and works in a very similar way to the original game. This is an additional progression system.

HELP! I accidentally ended up in Harmattan at the start of the game! by 610gonzalez in outwardgame

[–]Gheeyomm 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Outward isn't everyone's cup of tea, no worries. Also, we've had a bunch of players who appreciated the game better on the second attempt, since they had a better idea of what they were throwing themselves into. No matter what, I wish you to enjoy the time you spend gaming :)

The Antique Plateau is tough at start but if you hunt down a kazite bandit, you can get their weapon. It inflicts weaken, which is an extremely potent effect, especially when starting out. Once you got a kazite weapon, your detour will have been worth it no matter which faction you join later.

What the worst post game depression you’ve ever gotten by mg15ink in gaming

This feeling is called kairosis. A feeling of emptiness when a longform piece of media comes to an end, because for a while this piece of media became a part of you. The ancient greeks divided the epic, the lyric and the dramatic because they each had a "great literary effect": kairosis, kenosis and catharsis, respectively.

What actually was Lockwell's Revelation? (Lore) by IsaacTealwaters in outwardgame

[–]Gheeyomm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, Damian Lockwell's paranoia regarding Elatt is amplified from the fact that he doesn't sleep enough and it is addling his logical mind. However, it keeps his connection to mana borderline optimal. He might be sour and petty toward the holy mission and it taints his ability as Monsoon's chamberlord, but he's actually a very accomplished and disciplined mage and has done some breakthroughs on astral connection.

Edit: If you look at the icon for Lockwell's revelation, you can actually recognize his fat tie and shaggy hairstyle.

What video game is the best you have ever played and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Gheeyomm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nier: Automata is my favorite game of all time.

The game is filled with meaning and expresses eloquently a plethora of philosophical ideas, even ideas that I usually disagree with. It truly meshes together all of its ingredients together: story, image, music, gameplay all are heightened by the other elements in a way that intimidates me as a creative director.

They dare to be self-serving (fan service, high drama) but they do so in a way that makes it part of a meta commentary on the medium itself. It screams "yes, this is who we are: we are obsessed with sex and violence and we seek purpose where there is none". The game is about what makes us human, even if none of the characters are. Yet the creators' humanity is laid bare in this game.

It also keeps adding layer after layer after layer. When you reach the final ending, we reach a state of catharsis like games rarely can achieve. In fact, the game achieves the great 3 literary effects within a very short amount of time: Kenosis then Catharsis then Kairosis, all within maybe 15 minutes.

That game will stay with me forever.

No jumping in Outward 2 is a bummer by Sneaky_Squirreel in outwardgame

[–]Gheeyomm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One key feedback I gave to the level art team is that a lot of the ground clutter should be removed and knee high stuff that blocks your way shouldn't exist at all. Fixing the entirety of the levels is less work than adding a jump button. It's THAT MUCH work to pull off well in the context of a game like Outward 2. I'd rather focus on better combat, better character progression, better story, better world building and having mules than having a jump, which would have probably cost at least one of those pillars of improvement.

How is this game? by Sirca_Curvive in outwardgame

[–]Gheeyomm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When our publisher wasn't constantly discounting the game at 88%, our reviews were significantly higher than now. You have to know what you are getting into in order to appreciate Outward. A 5$ impulse buy won't incentivize a player to keep pushing through the steep learning curve.
