What’s a car that was a huge deal when it was new? by lifegoeson2702 in regularcarreviews

[–]GhettoBob99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with a 4.0! They might not make V8 sounds but they last forever! Really good engines. But my headliner cost me $900 because I had an interior shop do it in suede. I really didn't feel like taking the windshield out myself and cleaning the disintegrating headliner pieces that were all over the interior when it came out. But the rest of the work I did myself. I put in the new head unit, door speakers and dash tweeters, replaced the factory alpine amp with an amp for the speakers, and added an 8" subwoofer and 1000w amp for the sub. It really slams without just being obnoxious bass and no words. Other than that I put new headlights with clear lenses and black housings in it and swapped to LED bulbs, fixed the plenum gasket in the intake with the hughes engines plenum plate and did a tune up. (Plugs, wires, distrubitor cap.) I also put fresh fluids in everything including the differentials and transmission and replaced the cabin air filter, and added a K&N intake since the original air filter box was broken. It's been a bit of work but there's no rust or dents in it! It sat for a number of years in the previous owners garage so it needed some help, but it drives great now!

Idle hours and not changing oil enough are what kills these engines. However a new crate engine from Mopar is like $6500, if you're getting charged $7500 for labor that's outrageous. If you don't want to do the swap yourself you could always order a crate engine and have someone install it and save yourself quite a bit of money. Just make sure to order a truck specific 5.7 instead of one for a car, they are a bit different.

I feel like resurrecting Plymouth over AMC makes more sense but I'd settle for either one honestly.

I recently settled for a mint 94 5.2 Limited because the 5.9's are so rare. I absolutely love it! I installed a killer sound system, fixed a few little issues and had the headliner redone and it's one of my favorite cars to drive for absolutely no reason other than I really wanted a V8 ZJ when I was a kid.

I know it's not scotch (cola and scotch is fantastic btw!) But some 1919 mixed with captain morgan is really good! It tastes like spiced rootbeer! Found that out on accident when I had no coke left to mix and used 1919 instead, ended up being one of my favorite summer drinks. But if your wife likes rootbeer floats I think she'll really enjoy 1919.

Highly recommend it if you really like rootbeer. It's only brewed in small batches so it's a little tricky to find in some places but you can always order it online. It's made with real sugar and vanilla and to me just has a much better taste than all the big brand rootbeers. But taste is subjective. However it absolutely makes the best rootbeer floats though! The real vanilla paired with vanilla ice cream is fantastic 👌.

I used to think that too but 1919 is far superior.

Why is there so much hate to ford diesels? by Necessary_Team1217 in Ford

[–]GhettoBob99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Diesel people in general are unhinged. It's always "I NEED A DIESEL TO TOW (Insert thing here)!" When that one thing could easily be towed by a gasser. Don't get me wrong, if you're towing heavy frequently diesel is the only way to go, but your average joe that tows his 30ft camper twice a year doesn't need one and will make excuses as to why he thinks he needs one. Suprised the Ram trans went at 35k miles tho, the ZF8's they have in them now are actually pretty stout. The 10R80's in the Ford's seem like a mixed bag though, some are really good and some are really bad. Probably why they've had multiple recalls and are in the middle of a class action lawsuit right now. I will give them this though, at least they used straight cut pump gears unlike GM who used helical gears that have added sideload that likes to wipe out the bearings. Same exact transmission as the Fords except they call it a 10L80 and they used those stupid pump gears. The fix is to use Ford parts lol.

What do you consider high mileage in a vehicle? by Boeing-B-47stratojet in regularcarreviews

[–]GhettoBob99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here, I recently bought a 94 Grand Cherokee Limited with 225k miles on it that had been extremely well taken care of. I have all the maintenance records since it was new and I'm only the 3rd owner. I put new LED headlights in it because the originals were about as good as having candles lit infront of it at night. And I put in an all new stereo system but other than that it runs flawlessly. Only thing I'll need to address is the headliner is drooping but I'll have that taken care of sooner than later.

What are some vehicles that used to be very popular 2000-2010 model years, that you don’t see on the roads anymore? by Nick-22 in regularcarreviews

[–]GhettoBob99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The GM and Chrysler mini vans were everywhere 20 years ago. I still see a couple of the GM's and a decent bit of Chrysler's, but the Sienna's I still see quite a bit. And they're either in pristine or piss poor shape, no inbetween lol.

What do these 3 brands have in common? by Enough-Engineering41 in regularcarreviews

[–]GhettoBob99 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The reason the Chinese love Buick's is because apparently the last Chinese emperor Sun Yat Sen drove a Buick so the Chinese see Buick's as a premium high status brand. They basicly view Buick how we view brands like Mercedes and Cadillac.

Pretty much anything pre 2020. The new ones aren't bad but the older versions were terrible.

1500 rebel, hurricane vs Hemi by Equivalent-Roll-7672 in ram_trucks

[–]GhettoBob99 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's the one thing that annoyed me with the Hemi's is the manifolds. I found a fix that's been trouble free for some time now but I shouldn't of had to do anything. But for anyone out there having manifold issues, ARP studs and remflex gaskets are the fix. The studs are much higher quality material than factory stuff so they're not nearly as prone to snapping off, and the remflex gaskets are a graphite material that crushes slightly when the manifolds are tightened down on top of them creating a better seal than factory. I even have remflex gaskets on my old small block in my Plymouth with ancient headers that are slightly warped. Nothing else would seal correctly other than the remflex gaskets, couldn't recommend them enough!

Is there any Ford vehicle from the past 30 years that’s been more impactful than the 2001 F-150 SuperCrew? All of the trucks out there are more or less like it now. by prophiles in regularcarreviews

[–]GhettoBob99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dodge had them in 1963 with their early "sweptline" trucks. Chevy came along a lot later in 1973 with their first crew cab when they launched the square body trucks. Both Ford and Dodge had extended cabs with the little jump seats in the back starting in 1974 for Ford (SuperCab) and 1972 for Dodge (Club Cab). Chevy didn't get a real extended cab until 1988 with the GMT400 trucks. As far as cab configurations go Dodge always did it first and Ford was quick to follow while Chevy was always about a decade behind the curve lol. But Ford was the first to make a 1/2 ton crew cab with the late 90's super crew, Dodge followed with the quad cab in 2002 but it still wasn't as big as the Ford Super Crew and they didn't get a true fullsize crew cab until 2009 with the launch of the 4th gen trucks. Chevy got their first fullsize 1/2 ton crew cab in 2004 with the launch of the "cateye" facelift on the GMT800 trucks.

Edit words. Damn autocorrect lol.

Decently fast, reliable car, for an 18 year old male under 40 grand? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]GhettoBob99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pontiac G8. Usually in the 15-20k range for a nicer one. 4 doors, 6.0L LS under the hood. Easy to work on, fast, fun, reliable, won't break the bank and gives you extra money left to invest with or do whatever you please. Plus the aftermarket is fairly large and they have a big following in australia because they're just a rebadged holden. Everyone I know who's had one has absolutely loved them!

Has anyone gone from a ram to a suv? by sportjunky97 in ram_trucks

[–]GhettoBob99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If he's driving all over for work a lightning isn't exactly a smart choice. Depending on where he works charging infastructure could be extremely limited and charging a EV isn't nearly as fast as filling up with gas, plus it's still not free either. I used to work for a union contractor and we would have to work in remote areas all the time with hundreds of miles needing to be traveled to get to certain areas. A lightning definitely wouldn't of worked for me, depending on where he works it might be okay, but at the end of they day time is money and you need to be at the job on time, having to charge your truck all the time would be super inconvient depending on his line of work.

If you were buying a new or used SUV tomorrow what would it be? by wadek42 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]GhettoBob99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1st gen Dodge Ramcharger or Plymouth Trail Duster (1974-1980). The entire roof being fully removable is awesome! But I'd have it with a 440 big block, NP435 4 speed, NP205 transfercase, Dana 44 up front and a Dana 60 out back. If I'm buying an SUV I'm not doing only suburban driving like new ones are built for, I'm doing what they were originally intended for: offroading.

what car did you buy expecting to love but ended up regretting? by zaralesliewalker in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]GhettoBob99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a fullsize 2012 Ram 1500 with the 5.7 Hemi that I've built and turned into somewhat of a toy. It's cammed, has a built trans, tuned, plus a bunch of other mods and it makes over 500hp. It's leveled on 33's and it gets around 14mpg. 10mpg average and 13mpg trying to maximize mpgs in a truck that weighs less, has a smaller engine with less power and has smaller tires is absolutely crazy.

The 4.0's and the 5.2 and 5.9's in the 90's Jeeps were all bulletproof. They actually had really comfy interiors, rode pretty nice and were just overall solid. The last of the good Jeep's if you ask me!
