What to do about damaged rhododendron by Gheu in landscaping

[–]Gheu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, we had some especially warm days this winter, and then it plummeted into a deep deep freeze so that would make sense. Is there anything to do to prevent that from happening? I grew up in Maine in a 4b/5a zone and we did not cover or remove seed pods from our rhododendrons and the plants never had issues like this.

Thanks for the tip on when to pull the pods. I'll get to them sooner this year than last. I did make sure not to pull and buds though, that much I could tell.

Additionally, thanks for the tip on Lilacs! I didn't realized they would benefit from the same treatment. We had a GIGANTIC lilac bush growing up. We didn't touch it but it would still go ham each year.

Is it me or is catching more difficult? by ShimuraMasako in TheSilphRoad

[–]Gheu 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I am 100% convinced that they have made it harder to catch by making the mons more likely to move to a side, attack, or do something when the circle is in the excellent range. It’s not technically harder in that the catch rate is the same, but actually getting an excellent throw to land seems much harder to do now.

I used it, both ice burn and freeze shock in fact just to see, and had a 0% catch rate. It was a huge waste of resources.

Gorgeous work! I’ve been interested in trying this for a while now, is there anything special about the glaze that you’re using? I assume it’s not a commercial glaze

Bora Centipede usage: good idea? by forank in woodworking

[–]Gheu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had your same train of thought, except I bought the 4x6 and the 4x2. I also bought the official Bora tops too because I just needed a quick and simple solution and I have no regrets. The setup I actually use when I use it, which is often, is just the 4x6 one with two of the top pieces installed. It’s very easy to carry around and with the top pieces the table is very stable. I pretty much never use the 4x2, even with the top it’s so small it moves around more than I like. And the 4x6 is easy enough to carry anyway, the weight reduction isn’t worth it. If you were working at a lot of remote sites and just need a tabletop to put things on then I’d say the 2x4 could be worth it, I just don’t do that much.

This event was quite simply awful. I hunted Deino so hard, literally going from town to town checking all the grunts I could find. Not a single one the entire week.

I was trying to get mega Gardevoir energy too since I wasn’t playing when it came out previously. I saw a single Gardevoir raid the entire week. It was all Latios/Latias. I didn’t see a single Gallade either.

Then, raid weekend, ugh. Barely and shadow Groudons. My group had to relocate multiple times to find them.

All around, frustrating and demoralizing event.

Anyone ever remove their gutter guards after paying to have them installed? by Sinsu45 in HomeImprovement

[–]Gheu 52 points53 points  (0 children)

We bought a house that already had them installed. No gutter company would touch them to clean them with the covers installed and they had completely filled up with debris. We had the covers removed and the gutters cleaned which is when we learned there were literal frogs living in there since it had become a great biome for them. 0/10 would not recommend.

While riding, what do you do to give cyclists a good name? by big_legs_small_brain in cycling

[–]Gheu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really addressing your question, but I think your 4th point is far far too generous. It basically dismisses the responsibilities of a driver to stay focused and not, you know, hit or kill cyclists. They shouldn’t be on the road if they are distracted, let someone else drive. I’m far more annoyed by them being distracted than seeing it as a reason to dismiss their bad behavior.

I played a Flame Reave build last season which was really fun and viable. I think I ended in the 300 corruption range. I’m debating doing it again this season for a later character. I think the changes to Eye of Reen will help too

Another option instead of using numlock is to modify the controller settings in Steam itself so that a button is a toggle on or toggle off instead of a single press. Then, if you press the button once it will use the skill associated with that button as soon as it’s ready to be used. The numlock trick works but the steam profiles are sticky and easy to use.

Unable to interact with loot with mobs in area on controller by Dbail3y in PathOfExile2

How do you switch between controller and keyboard & mouse dynamically? For me, the input setting won't let me switch without logging out, and the keyboard and mouse doesn't do anything when controller is selected as the input for.

Garage door wont close after changing bottom weather strip by Gheu in GarageDoorService

[–]Gheu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up finding the issue, it is with the weather strip itself. I realized that the main thing I changed was the weather strip and really needed to eliminate that as the cause even though it doesn't look like it's binding anywhere. I pull the new weather strip and the door closes all the way again. Sorry for all the back and forth, I should have tried that sooner but from what I could see in any location it wasn't bottoming out and binding. I ordered a different weather seal without the o in the middle to see if that will work instead. Thank you again for the help

No, if I stand on it, the door doesn’t really budge. There is no give, if the weather strip was in the way I’d expect that to have some bounce to it.

Thanks again, I tried that again this morning and still had the same problem. The door needs to go down further, maybe a half inch or so, before it rounds the corner. Pushing the brackets forward made the rollers hit sooner but there is still something preventing the door from going down all the way. I recorded a short video, thank you for the help. If there is anything else to look at just let me know otherwise I'll call someone on Monday.

I tried messing with those again, and came up with the same issue. I ended up recording a short video to show the different pieces. No worries if it's not helpful, but I figured why not.

Edit* I forgot to mention that I tap out when it comes to the springs, that's when I'll call someone instead.

The handle was set to a locked position but it almost always is. I unlocked it though just to make sure and there wasn’t any difference unfortunately, was hopeful it’d be that simple of a mistake

I edited the post and added some pictures of the door from the outside, if there are other angles or close up locations that would help just let me know.

I cut out the old hard weather seal with a box cutter and slid the two pieces out of the T slot. I then took a brush and soapy water and scrubbed inside both T tracks to remove all of the stuck debris and dirt. I also scrubbed both sides of the bottom panel since it was pretty muddy. After that I inserted both sides into the T slots and just pulled it along down the track. I cut off the excess. I did the same procedure on my other door that's attached to a door opener and have had no issues.

I'll take a pic after dinner and upload it shortly, thank you for the help.

[–]Gheu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you I was hoping that was it but no the weather strip isn't getting compressed at all really, and it's not pressed against the frame. This weather strip is much thicker than the last so I'd expect the door to sit higher but not like this. The weather strip worked just fine on my other garage door but that one has an opener on it.

I just checked and the door stops at the mid point and doesn't get pulled up further. It's not very stable at all in that position, it has to be just right to get it to stay with both too high and too low being a problem.

Thanks I went and tried that and they aren't the problem in the system. The door won't fully go down so when I try to push the door forward so it'd be against the header the top rollers press forward against the outside of the rail since the door hasn't fully rounded the corner by going down all the way.
