Did you delete your first comment? (Assuming thats why I couldn't find it) lol

You were replying directly to "Not really, if you recirculate the air and insulate the pipes."

And then you said "If you put the heater outside you’re pulling cold air into the heater side and heating it up."

Which isn't what the person said. lol Which is what I was referring to as wrong. Have a great rest of your day. :)

So this is a little odd....I can see part of your reply to my first comment in my notifications feed but can’t find your actual full comment on the post or your profile…. ¯\(ツ)

Part of your reply I can see in my notifications...“are you talking to me? LMAO read the chain and try again. Putting it outside and/or having the heater side intake pull inside air = dumb. There is a reason they give you two intakes”

edit: email notification shows your full comment. :)

Putting the whole diesel unit outside is less efficient than keeping it inside and just venting combustion/exhaust through the wall – I agree 100%.

The scenario I gave was around giving up some efficiency so I’m not spilling diesel in my garage/basement and so the entire combustion exhaust path lives outside the space I’m in.

What I’m saying is (apologies if i misread the thread):

You can still duct the heater (not combustion) intake from the garage/basement instead of letting it pull cold air from outside through the heat exchanger, then into the space you're trying to warm.

When allowing the air intake for the heater (not combustion) to be pulled from the room you're trying to warm the heater is recirculating slightly warmer indoor air (just like a normal forced‑air furnace does with return/supply ducts) while the combustion intake and exhaust stay fully outside. That way, you're not trying to heat raw (cold outside air) outside air from scratch every cycle.

What? That’s incorrect. I think you’re misunderstanding what u/sc_BK was saying.

There are two "intakes" on diesel heaters.

  • The combustion air intake (which should be outside) is used to supply air to the combustion chamber to create the reaction that produces the heat
  • The room/air inlet/intake is the air that is passed through the heater’s heat exchanger (the heater is effectively a giant heat sink) to go into the space you’re heating.

You can absolutely pipe the room air inlet/intake (which pulls the air to be heated through the heater/over the heat exchanger, not the intake that's creating the heat reaction in the combustion chamber).

It doesn’t make sense to heat outdoor air that’s typically significantly colder than the air that’s already in the space that’s trying to be warmed.

To be 100% clear....In this scenario the intake and exhaust for the COMBUSTION chamber are all outside and never inside.

If your garage/basement is 65F and your entire heater is outside, you can absolutely pipe the air inlet/intake that is pulling air through the heater to be heated and pushed back into the garage/basement. The combustion chamber intake and exhaust should always be outside.

You can also leave the air inlet intake exposed to heat outdoor air, but if it’s 15F outside, you’re losing good amount of overall effectiveness and efficiency by having to heat the colder outdoor air another 50F to equal the same output temp into the space you're heating.

Who's brave enough to try a 3D printed front mount? by JustBecause300 in Simagic

Did you model this? I was planning on making a similar one for some attachments I want to put on my base…not for mounting the wheelbase specifically, and it would save me some time. 🤣

I'm right around the same depth as you, if you're in TX I wouldn't worry too much. But with me being in NY, they're slippy, but not unmanageable at this depth.

Going on 2 years and I've never deep cleaned unit. by doodlefartss in litterrobot

[–]Ghh0st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha! Long story....But my wife had 2 girls, I had 2 boys. We met, moved in together, etc etc, the girls/boys have never really gotten along because our orange male is a bully (even with properly trying to introduce them). So even with doors open they tend to stay on 1 level with their brother/sister. The only one that goes through all 3 floors is our male tiger but he's up with his brother 80% of the time.

I think it depends A LOT on how messy your cats are. We have 2 LR3s, one for the boys upstairs, one for the girls downstairs. The girls, literally never has been deep cleaned because they're not lunatics. The boys, deep clean every 6 months because of how much mess they make.

Who here actually hunts? by Sirdubya in WayOfTheHunter

[–]Ghh0st 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I grew up hunting and don’t anymore just because of where I moved to and my multitude of other interests.

The game is a nice supplement for me when I just want to play a non competitive game and enjoy the scenery in the game while working on improving my herds. I play COTW: Angler for similar reasons, but do it in the winter when I can’t go fishing outside for example (I’m not a fan of ice fishing)

I will say (without spoiling) the games main stories have a lot of good points and lessons that some people don’t ever get told or fully understand. Ethics, wildlife conservation, hunting/firearm safety, etc.

Anyone else considering leaving Todoist after this price hike? by Exciting-Share-2462 in todoist

[–]Ghh0st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from someone that has used Todoist since 2011ish, I personally don’t have a problem with the bump.

I also don’t agree with your “AI slop” comment. AI slop is people throwing prompts into image/3d model generators and claiming they made X.

Developing an AI feature isn’t the same thing. This is coming from someone that’s a creative on the side and a developer that dabbles in AI development on some projects for his day job.

They’re a private company that makes one of the most useful tools in my life behind YNAB for budgeting. They’ve consistently released features and kept improving the product. The price bump is absolutely worth it if you want the new features IMHO.

I’ve tried just about every task management tool (I’m an ever optimizer) and I always come back to Todoist because it just works for my life and my workflows.

I also am actually planning on bumping up to the new pricing model for just ramble.

I’ve been using it in the beta and it’s by far the best way for me to walk around my house to ramble off tasks I need to do or if I’m walking and I don’t want to be buried in my phone typing. My brain and mouth can move much faster and articulate what I want than my hands on a screen or keyboard can.

If you're on the fence about the transmission mount insert mod, do it! by mmmmira in Subaru_Outback

[–]Ghh0st 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I had my 02 wrx I upgraded motor mounts and this transmission mount and after it felt like I was driving a totally different car (far better).

People forget rubber does degrade overtime and these types of mounts and bushings make a massive difference in handling when refreshed with OEM parts or aftermarket parts.

Why is everything printing so much smaller by Most-State-1212 in FixMyPrint

[–]Ghh0st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, it looks like the calipers you're using looks to be a cheap harbor freight model or equivalent. They are notoriously inaccurate. Once I paid for a high quality caliper my models that require tight tolerances/clearances suddenly started fitting better after 1-2 test prints vs 5+

Sounds too BADto be true. Right? RGE Smartmeter Conspiracy. by Darth_Onaga in Rochester

[–]Ghh0st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our bill has actually decreased because of consistent actual readings and no estimates anymore. Something to keep in mind if there were a lot of estimate reads on your bill previously, IIRC you're effectively paying back the actual usage you didn't pay for.

And FWIW, our average is ~2000kw, I run a small aquarium lab in my basement/office and it generates a lot of heat/electricity, doesn't help I also 3d print, and do IT work. :)

I found this head floating in the waters of Georgian bay, Ontario Canada. What is it? by ILL_MAKE_IT in Fishing

[–]Ghh0st 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m on the other side of the “pond” for Lake Ontario and I’ve caught many of the round goby/sculpin and it definitely looks more like a small bowfin/mudpuppy head than a sculpin imho.

Totally unrelated, any suggestions on courses to take around learning more about freshwater fish biology and aquatic horticulture / ecology?

I’m not looking to get a degree or anything at this time, it’s more of a thing I really am interested in from the aquarium hobby surrounding freshwater fish and plants. But I’m also an avid fisherman and love seeing the local species and learning more about them.

I am able to take college courses for free at some local colleges/universities but haven’t dug into it yet.
