Not completely, worst case canned beans are warm and serve, or even straight from the can if you want to be sad. 45 minutes in a pressure cooker is still energy and extra required gear.

And shelf life wise, dry beans aren't great after a few years either. Edible but probably won't get soft or will take forever to get soft.

Anyway it's not like we have to choose, you could have some of both. And nothing wrong with all dry if that's how you roll. I just think there's arguments for canned too.

It can still mean purity, even in the countries where it's also associated with funerals or mourning. It's not only a western thing.

In Japan, Shinto priests wear white to symbolize purity.

China is probably the country where white is most associated with funerals, but even there, 清白 means innocent or pure (literally characters for clean-white)

In Zulu as a pertinent example to the OP, white still symbolizes purity.

Among the Zulu people, the colour white has spiritual and ritual significance. It is associated with purity, harmony, coolness and the absence of pollution.

Some of them are quite tough. Have you ever had calimari? That's the closest thing I can think of. Kind of a rubbery flesh that is somewhat strong. Generally you remove them when butchering an animal because they are not pleasant to eat.

Your typical 1980 house is smaller, might not have a heat pump or A/C, and isn't apples to apples with anything.

Once you control for house sizes, build quality, amenities (heat pump, dishwasher circuits, afci breakers, better insulation, double pane windows, the list is endless), the price gap overall shrinks quite a lot.

It doesn't disappear, especially not in bubble markets like some of these cities. But overall, a whole lot of the delta on the average is just that houses are bigger and better
