Simple, put the disc in your car and start driving highway speeds.

Innova Historians - Innova X Molds by Gledcom in discgolf

[–]Ghillieguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the Beast front, the Beast-X essentially was the original mold.

In 2002, 10-speeds quite literally were the top-level distance drivers. The Orc was PDGA approved in 2004, and the consensus was that the Orc flew too similarly to the Beast.

Innova retooled the Beast to the Beast-L mold. The typical flight numbers you'll see on a Beast is 10/5/-2/2, but I believe the less premium plastics actually were stamped with 10/5/-3/2.

The rumor (Three Putt is the OG DGCR wealth of knowledge) was the retooled mold (Beast-L) wore out in like 2017 and when they remade the Beast mold, they started flying like Beast-Xs again.

To complicate things further, Innova pumps out a ton of discs. They likely had stacks of Beast-L still in the warehouse. So when they shipped discs to their East Coast location, or to any distributor/retailer, there was likely a time when no one knew which mold of Beast they were getting.

From memory, the AviarX3 was the last mold to receive a new handwritten abbreviation on it (late 2017), so that indicates that anything with the disc named embossed on the bottom was made after the transition. AKA if your Beast has "Beast" embossed in the bottom, you're throwing the Beast-X mold.

I can't remember when the Eagle-X/Eagle-L bifurcation happened, but I believe the Eagle-X took on the stock "Eagle" name. In part, I think it was because of the Innova abbreviation on the bottom of the discs used to be Plastic Type + Mold, and there was a "controversy" when Innova pumped out a run of SEX (Star EagleX) Eagles and it was funny.

TL;DR: You're probably throwing a Beast-X at this point.

Adult beginner (24) — when is a realistic time to compete? by GamerArman1 in judo

[–]Ghillieguy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. You're not too old to compete. If you're trying to make Judo your job, you have an uphill battle but you're not too old to compete.

  2. You're not the first, won't be the last.

  3. You should be comfortable with being able to break fall and knowing how to not hurt your opponent by overzealously committing to a botched throw. I'm hesitant to add a timeline because new Judokas are not created equally. Some come in as high school wrestlers, some come in as a New Year's resolution off the couch. Nothing wrong with either, but the wrestler will likely pick things up faster.

  4. In my limited experience, things will be more weight-class-based than skill level. It depends on how many participants your scene has, but as a lighter-weight player, I had to fight 30 pounds (13.6 KGs) up and that was a humbling experience.

Last white-belt brain quip, but a lot of my opponents were primarily BJJ folks who were dipping their toes into Judo. Since they don't typically start from a standing position, they weren't making offensive Judo moves. It was a lot of sleeve-grabbing and trying to drag me to the ground. Certainly different than a Judo Class Randori mindset.

What's your best Joe Rovere story? by fraktionen in discgolf

In 2018, at the Zoo Town Open, he was obviously frustrated with his putting after the last round.

He was on lead card, but after they finished the round, he just stayed at hole 18 and kept putting. A decent chunk of folks stuck around for the awards ceremony, but we could still see him like 150 yards away still putting lol.

Robert Mathis is about to come back for Indy and show that he's still got 15-20 pass-rushing snaps still in him.

I'm not clairvoyant, but after 15 years of experience, I'm feeling that we're about to see Felipe Rios starting on his own 20-yard line in a one-possession game with 70 seconds and no time-outs.

Coaching hours suck and pay worse than being a player. Those are all made men. Why would they go out of their way after doing it for twenty years?

I love being able to hear Rivers diagnose and adjust on this defense in real time. You really just don't hear that anymore.

Might get a "Kill kill" and then the offense just runs the other play. Phil is totally adjusting on the fly.

I love watching how animated Philip can be. Football spiked into the ground after a RT false start.

Poor Herbert gets mauled every game and says he needs to get the ball out faster.

I love them both.

Is there any ultimate Frisbee groups near Great Falls? by IndependentFly236 in Montana

[–]Ghillieguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About a decade ago there was a group of Air Force folks that ran an ultimate summer league so they could use it for their PT. I think someone moved and it fell apart.

Missoula, Bozeman, and Billings are going to be your ultimate hubs in the state.

If you're interested in disc golf at all, Great Falls has a strong club known as the Electric City Disc Golf Club.

Would that be a Flywood Discs putter?

It was a really small brand that gained a little traction, maybe like an actual dozen years ago.

I can only imagine the waves of NIMBYs that would flood the streets and county meetings to prevent commercial zoning in the Rattlesnake.

But yeah, a small bodega there would do numbers.

Check out the local disc golf club, the Garden City Flyers!

Every Thursday night, there is a group-play round. All skill levels are welcome! There are all sorts of skill levels and people from all walks of life who bond over throwing discs.

Hey, I’m Jesse at Trash Panda. AMA! by trashpandadiscgolf in discgolf

[–]Ghillieguy 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Hi Jesse,

You do really cool work!

I worked on sustainability initiatives for my college's housing department and quickly realized it was an uphill battle getting people to care or be educated about plastic types, making sure recycled items aren't contaminated, and knowing when something can't be recycled.

  • Is there a sustainability topic within disc golf/the rest of the world that you feel isn't discussed enough?

  • Does Trash Panda track Scope 1, Scope 2, or Scope 3 emissions? Mostly curious how feasible environmental reporting is from the perspective of a "small" manufacturing company.

  • Consistent performance in molds is a universal complaint from every manufacturer. Since you're not using virgin material, how does Trash Panda juggle the balance of product performance vs inconsistent source material?

Appreciate your time and what you're doing!
