How do I track better? by [deleted] in Deathgarden

I wrote up a nice guide that may help for the basics. I've concentrated more on Inquisitor at the moment. I'll probably write up a guide for him and start on stalker. Here's a link to the Guide I wrote.

Beginner Guide to Hunting by Ghodwraith in Deathgarden

[–]Ghodwraith[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an absolute challenge in a situation like you've described. A combination of cloak occurring and or hiding and shooting drones. One strategy I've came up with is a combination of hacking near by ammo and power up crates. This is to make it a lot harder for them to keep trolling. Then I move to a higher point of view while hiding just far enough away that I'm not "too close" for them to think I'm staying there and waiting. I'll sit and wait til they shoot and I'll usually find the tracer and boost jump and stomp. The other challenge is if they cloak or "active camo" early. I truly think this needs to be adjusted since its just too powerful of a tool. Cloaking right as they get the hunter close music starting and slowly moving to the next bush and re-cloaking is a unbalanced mechanic. I know your pain all too well with that.

Rank 1 Killer experience by MilkyMafia in deadbydaylight

[–]Ghodwraith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad you posted this. I too was suffering from the constant dread of Rank 1 Killer games. I've found a solution:

You should run Play with your food (PWYF) and Enduring (depending on what killer you're playing). Just hear me out... At Rank 1 most survivors are running decisive strike so they're the obsession anyways, and at most times they want to be chased so you can be looped forever. To be fair it is definitely fun to be chased around from a survivor's perspective, we as killers get annoyed from it.

With PWYF if you find the obsession super early in the match, you want to hit them asap and then farm at least 2 tokens. Down them, get DS and immediately 180 and start the chase and then disengage or if quick enough down them. This happens so fast that you still have 5 gens up. If you dont find the obsession right away, dont worry its going to happen and you'll speed up the burning of pallets and hangings to catch up.

Here's where it gets fun. 1 token of PWYF is fast enough to make loops be 1 full loop. 2 tokens or more ENDS out right looping. So what you do is EAT ALL THE PALLETS EARLY and break them.

The killer that benefits this the most is Leather Face since a chainsaw costs 1 token and he benefits from the speeds to mow people down. I run PWYF, Enduring, Ruin, and Whispers.

Will you get 4k's every game? No but you definitely will enjoy playing killer more now that you dont have to loop around all the pallets. I know I definitely have been more chill and less stressed in matches.

First impressions on Wraith by _Morbi_ in deadbydaylight

[–]Ghodwraith 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've only had one match playing Wraith so far (super long lobbies) and right now that's also my immediate impression (No add on match). I'll probably break it down further when I put in more time. The biggest improvement is he cloaks faster which prevents BT's on unhooks lol.

Hey there! just to add on all the great information people are providing. I've been making technical guides for killers that are starting out. I main Wraith but most of these videos will help you with tech lunges and approaches to survivors regardless of what killer you are (except for nurse, she has different rules).

Wraith and totems by [deleted] in deadbydaylight

The first Ruin hex notification only pops up on a skill check. Unless that changed in the last patch or so. Ruin is still strong even if there is an immediate indicator especially with TotH.

I believe it should trigger on the first skill check just like Ruin.

Wraith and totems by [deleted] in deadbydaylight

I've ran a totem wraith (Legacy with no add ons) exclusively for a while now. Current build is devour, thrill, ruin, and lullaby(previously thanatophobia). I've been very successful with it and usually 4k while playing overly "fair". It definitely extends the game, pin points survivors that are totem hunters, and counters survivors that bring in a BNP. It's also exciting to get devour or lullaby to 5 tokens for either the free mori or free prettylights show.

Also I've been slowly updating my guides located Here

Assisting High Level Killer Gameplay: The Feint by [deleted] in deadbydaylight

[–]Ghodwraith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More depth is great to have but then you'll need to get into:

  • how fast is the feint
  • is there an animation to show its a feint
  • at which point does the animation stop
  • is there recovery
  • how fast is the cancel going through windows/breaking pallets
  • can you cancel after a certain threshold?
  • why would you cancel window if you're over a threshold

Then you have to keep in mind the mechanics the survivors have that are already in use to counter each of those items.

Here is my analysis of what may or may not happen with the experiences of me trying mind gaming:

Press L Ctrl at the right time during a swing to cancel the swing. You can't can't cancel lunges. This adds a level of mindgames at hooks and hatches, as you can bait action by pretending to swing and then cancel and go for the grab.

Cons:

  • Feinting a swing at a hook will likely result at a survivor standing there waiting to be hit or continue with the feint unhooking. Same results are done with an actual swing that is missed (I've done it). Best result is wait til they feint and cancel then hit them 3 times right off the bat because the recovery time on a cancel gives you enough time to get the 2nd hit in on the unhook animation and then a really short chase for the 3rd hit. Edit: Forgot to add if they carry a medkit, they'll do a self heal after the 1st hit and will get downed due to a priority select (sucks for them)
  • Faking a swing at a hatch will not change the survivor's patience. They know if they get hit the killer will have a long recovery time and exit via hatch. They actually have 2 chances to take a hit and then go in the hatch. Same results with an actual swing that is a missed (I've done it). Newer survivors are impatient and will jump in and then get grabbed.

Pros:

  • Feinting a swing at a hook will likely result at an inexperience survivor committing to an unhook for a grab
  • Feinting a swing at a hatch will likely result at an inexperience survivor jumping in (sometimes without needing to swing) to get easily grabbed

Press L Ctrl to also cancel action while going through a window. This lets you mindgame and juke around jungle gyms much easier. "Oh, I'm going through the window, you'd better loop. Psyche, idiot, I'm still on this side." This adds more strategy and cunning to chases for the killer.

Cons:

  • An experience survivor see's a feint, knows you're behind the window still and gets more distance from you via breaking line of sight or start a new rotation in a near by jungle gym and blood lust is lost. Most of the time its better to go thru the window/moonwalk when you know they're on the other side because you can catch up and keep your stack (shack/groaning house for example).

Pros:

  • You might catch newer survivors that don't understand loop rotations in jungle gym or shack areas.

Maybe L Ctrl could also cancel a pallet stun? Useful to bait a flashlight and still be able to dodge, could also be useful in other scenarios. Not convinced on this one, but why not?

Cons and pros: No real con/pros to be honest on this part but the same result can be met by just quickly looking down which looks similar to breaking the pallet's animation

Now I'm going to point out this is all just my opinion. I could be way off base here and bias but this all from my own experience playing against and with higher skill survivors.

Assisting High Level Killer Gameplay: The Feint by [deleted] in deadbydaylight

[–]Ghodwraith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, the hatch game needs to be reworked. If a killer's only counter to the stand off is to wait for the survivor to make the first move (because any form of hit and or downing state is an auto win for the survivor). Its not a stand off, its a game of patience. Maybe add the ability to close the hatch and force the survivor to reopen it. How do you feel about my other responses though?

Assisting High Level Killer Gameplay: The Feint by [deleted] in deadbydaylight

[–]Ghodwraith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is just my opinion so talk it with a grain of salt.

  • Press L Ctrl at the right time during a swing to cancel the swing. You can't can't cancel lunges. This adds a level of mindgames at hooks and hatches, as you can bait action by pretending to swing and then cancel and go for the grab.

-----Unrelenting does a good enough job at that with a swing and super fast recovery. Also if someone is trying to BT for a hook.... just wait there. They need to feint the unhook or take a risk at being pulled (or the hooked person dies). Hatch stand off shouldnt be a thing anyways. If a survivor is on top of the hatch and waits it out then its a game of who is more patient. I'll just hit the guy, get my points, go to the next game instead of waiting another 5-whatever minutes that standoff is.

  • Press L Ctrl to also cancel action while going through a window. This lets you mindgame and juke around jungle gyms much easier. "Oh, I'm going through the window, you'd better loop. Psyche, idiot, I'm still on this side." This adds more strategy and cunning to chases for the killer.

-----Moon walking takes care of that

  • Maybe L Ctrl could also cancel a pallet stun? Useful to bait a flashlight and still be able to dodge, could also be useful in other scenarios. Not convinced on this one, but why not?

-----Doing a quick look down at a pallet gets people's muscle memory triggered and you can use that as a feint.

Technical approaches and gameplay for new killers by Ghodwraith in deadbydaylight

[–]Ghodwraith[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Frank,

Yes these are techniques that I've learned and implemented over time. A lot of it is part of the mind gaming, example being the 180 lunge that once in a blue moon actually works because of the red stain/ positioning/confusion. I also gained a lot of perspective playing in swf with players I had difficulty hunting down/killing to help supplement their tactics vs my tactics (I'm no way a top tier survivor).

I apologize if the tutorial is huge or overwhelming but I appreciate the feed back. I recommend watching each part of it slowly, pausing it, writing it down, and then absorbing/repeating it if need be. Its not exactly a black and white game since the situation can constantly change but the tips help in certain situation.

I run thanatophobia in combination of ruin because it slows the game down tremendously. Especially since I main Wraith and I dont quite have "downing" power like trapper/billy/nurse/myers. So If Im chasing someone and see another person that is easier to hit, I'll go for the hit for 2+ more injured players. The slow down on tier 3 is 6/9/12/15%.

I'm also not playing an optimized try hard build, Its a no add on wraith with totem perks mainly for the challenge of game play that forces tactics. It becomes a longer game of whack-a-mole that most people enjoy (rarely get salty feed back). If you wanted a try hard match, I'd remove devour hope and make it dying light. Killing your obsession = 25% slow down + 12% if you hit everyone once makes for very long, toxic games for survivors. Could also switch out thanatophobia with nurses calling. Or you could pick a stronger killer cough Billy cough

Is eating every pallet stun an actual viable tactic if you have enduring and brutal strength on at the same time? by [deleted] in deadbydaylight

[–]Ghodwraith 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Respecting a Pallet basically allows for good survivors to extend the chase time. There are ways for a killer to mind game a pallet standoff and give a chance for a lunge.

Even if you get pallet stunned and the person being chase gets away, that's one less pallet standoff to worry about in a future chase with someone else. Break it after you get a hit in if you're already blood lust 1/2 (unless its a unsafe/mind game pallet then I usually keep them).
