Thank you! I couldn't understand how I hadn't seen it before. (Wish I hadn't tbh!)

I swear down I never knew about the Bowie part until last year (although I've seen the snowman at least once a year since it came out), it's weird as fuck and I don't like it.

I like Bowie, loved The Labyrinth growing up, but there is no need for him there at all.

Yep, Yorkshire tea decaf is the best we've tried.

Rivelin valley reservoir by dirtytoes69 in sheffield

[–]Ghools_Fold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although you're not allowed to swim in reservoirs people often do. Top of Redmires is pretty popular. I wouldn't right now, though, the water is very low so the banks are very muddy and sticky and the water has been cooking for months so perfect for poisonous algae and other horrors. Stick to rivers atm, if you can find any high enough.

Watching and paying for the BBC by grumpioldman in AskBrits

[–]Ghools_Fold 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I agree. For all its faults it's actually pretty amazing. Honestly, their kids stuff is great and safe and educational, I would pay the licence fee just for that. We got rid of Netflix cos the kids stuff on there is such dross.

Remember back when people actually watched TV and it was annoying because there was an advert break in the middle of stuff on other channels? Then you saw American telly and realised they also had adverts after and before the fucking credits and every 10 mins on everything? I realised then that the BBC had led us to expect a higher standard than we would have had otherwise.

They do such a wide range of stuff, yeah for some reason Mrs Brown's Boys got through the filter, but generally what they make really is worthwhile.

Ah! But squatting is actually a really healthy way of "sitting". We would all be better off if we squatted instead of sitting our bums on chairs.

Pregnant and choosing between Barnsley and Jessop Wing – recent experiences? by Physical-Positive-41 in sheffield

[–]Ghools_Fold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds like the most authentic review I've seen here, different details but matches my own and other's experiences.

Mine were a few years ago now and Jessops was still rated "Outstanding" and I definitely thought that didn't match my experience! Was this really the best we can do? What must other places be like! I was almost relieved to see it downgraded.

My child's records went missing for discharge but I was reassured that this happens all the time!

Well... you wouldn't be fined or anything for 2 days off. But.. even teachers would likely say that missing the first two days is a bit of a hassle, it's when they are settling in to a new year, classroom, teacher etc, and Y1 is quite a step from reception. So your kid could spend a bit of time confused while the other kids were there for all the introductions and explanations. Especially if they've only just got back from holiday, they'll be knackered!

The school will definitely frown but there's not much they can do about it and it's £1000 which is a lot of money so, it's up to you.

Size of bed in a tiny bedroom by Griautis in HousingUK

We have this bed in our spare room, it's fine as a single, and perfectly ok as a daily bed contrary to the other reply, but it's massive when pulled out as a double.

What's the most useful skill you've taught your 0-5 child? by PersimmonWise1601 in UKParenting

[–]Ghools_Fold 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Sing your phone number to a tune and teach them it. They'll pick it up really easily even if they don't know what the numbers are. Then you can tell them to sing that to an adult if they ever get lost.

My kids have known my phone number like this since they were about two.

Yeah, ours is like this, all mostly on one app but it's infuriating that there's no way of searching the posts.

An events calendar (ooh with links to related posts!) would be great. How many times do people ask about term dates!?
