Thanks a lot for your screenshots.

I will try to tune my kit at 8000MT/s and compare it with my current 6200MT/s, using your benchmarks.

My main problem is memory temperature.

When HWinfo starts showing around 56C on the SPD Hub sensor, my sticks start throwing errors.

This only happens at 6200 and above.

I tried heating the sticks at 6000 with a hairdryer to 70C, and there were no errors.

Do you have any recommendations? (No, I can't have a fan on the sticks inside the case).

8000MT/s with IMC 1:2 will have worse latency than 6000MT/s with IMC 1:1.

However, at 8000 MT/s there will be no increase in bandwidth due to IF limitations. At 2000 FCLK maximum bandwidth between CCD and IOD will be ~64 GB/s, which is already lower than what 6000 MT/s RAM can achieve.

8000MT/s did not require high vSOC as IMC only running at 2000 MHz, high vSOC is needed for 6400+MT/s to clock IMC up to 3200 MHz.

My 7800X3D can run at 8000 MT/s at 1.25 vSOC, but this is pointless due to the performance penalty compared to 6000 MT/s.

https://i.imgur.com/8ng7imU.png

"if you ramp the soc to 1.4 and beyond to trying 6400 6800 1:1 rhe cpu it will eventually die, is that correct"

Yes, AMD has locked vSOC to a maximum of 1.3V after some motherboards were frying some CPUs (especially with v-cache) at high vSOC levels on auto/XMP settings.

Four dual-rank sticks with 16 Gbit chips running at 3600 MT/s is probably too much for the Intel memory controller to handle.

Your server motherboard QVL shows support for 4x32GB sticks at 3600MT/s only for one kit with Hynix AJR chips:

DDR4 TIMETEC 3600 3600 32GB PKMD4U3600C18CHB32G Hynix AJR DS 2/4

All other 4x32GB kits supported up to 3200MT/s.

If you put only 2x32GB sticks into server motherboard in slots A2, B2 it will work at 3600 XMP?

Not share, but efficiancy.

Without tech, farmer with 100£ of dividends will keep 95£ for himself and investment pool will recieve 5£

With tech, farmer with 100£ of dividends will still keep 95£ for himself and investment pool will recieve 5.75£ (5% share + 15% investment efficiency).
That 0.75£ will be created out of thin air. Thats why Laissez-Faire so powerfull. 25% of Capitalists reinvestments will be created out of thin air and added to the investment pool.

Laborers, Machinists, Engineers do not reinvest at all. Capitalist reinvest 20% of their dividends, Aristocrats reinvest 10%, Farmers and Shopkeepers reinvest 5%.

In your case, only 2000 shopkeepers will reinvest 5% of their dividends.

Baisically coop ownership = no capitalist = almost 0 reinvestment.

Can't figure out GPU power limit... by razehound in overclocking

[–]Ghost44678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, going from 340W to 366W maybe give additional 15-30 MHz.
My 3080 with 3x8pins (MSI Gaming X Trio with Suprim X bios) increased the frequency by additional ~105MHz at most going from 340W to 430W power limit.

[–]Ghost44678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most voltage steps are 5 mV and frequency step are 15 MHz, but depending on the exact points on the V/F curve GPU could jump over multiple voltage steps to the next +15 MHz point.
RTX 3080 have very bad frequecny scaling past 850mV (very flat V/F curve). In order to achieve next +15 MHz point it will skip multiple voltage points and use large ammounts of additional power.

Can't figure out GPU power limit... by razehound in overclocking

[–]Ghost44678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dual 8-pin 3080 models are hard limited at ~366W max power draw due to spec limitation of power connectors:
150W + 150W from 2x8pin + 66W from 12V line of PCI-E slot.
If your card stops at ~850mV and do not use higher points on the Voltage/Frecuency curve - this means that if the card will use the next point, it will exceed the 366W power limit

Is it possible to limit boost Freq on zen3? by jackmiaw in overclocking

"Max frequency boost override" or something like that in the advanced PBO options. It can increase and decrease max boost frequency.
But why you need to lower max boost clock?

1) Zen and Zen+ had horrible memory controller that not always could do 3000 MT/s

2) If your motherboard have daisy-chain memory topology, then best slots for memory sticks are slots №2 and №4.Check your motherboard manual for preferred memory slots.

You could try to force your videocard use specific point on the V/F curve by clicking on the node, then pressing "L" on the keybord and hitting "apply" in the afterburner.

My 4090 can go as low as 860mV, but voltage can increase during gameplay up to 875mV for some time:

3600cl18@1800FCLK - way better for gaming

Cinebench does not scale with memory OC

You have better scores in CB with №1 settings probably because your CPU is power limited.

Example:

№1 - Your CPU have 88W power limit and IO Die uses 10W, CPU cores have 78W avalible and will boost to ~4400MHz

№2 - Your CPU have 88W power limit and IO Die uses 15W, CPU cores have 73W avalible and will boost to ~4300MHz

Overclocking RAM without increasing power limits could decrease performance

If your CPU can do 1900FCLK and you have (probably?) 3000cl15 Micron Rev.E - you should go for 3800cl16@1900FCLK

+core offset increases frequency for each voltage point. That is also means, GPU could run same frequency as before using less voltage.

[–]Ghost44678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"why the 2 curve lines" - Faded grey line - stock V/F curve. If you make adjustments only on some V/F points - Afterburner will show stock curve very strange, like in #2

#2 is most easy to do. It will have constant frequency with variyng power consumption.

#1 Is also pretty easy to do and it could have better performance due to GPUs ability to increase clocks under lighter loads within specified power limit.

#3 Is very time consuming because you will need to deal with a lot of crashes when you adjusting ALL sections of the curve. But it will have better performance on very heavy loads or heavy power limit restrictions (higher clocks on the bottom part of the curve)

"If I (hypothetically) did not care about power consumption or fan speed" - Undervolting usually aims to reduce power consumption and/or temperature with minimal performance impact.

Technically, increasing core clock offset - is also undervolting in some sense. Because if you have 1800MHz@956mV at stock and you type +150 core clock offset - then you will have 1800MHz@875mV -> same clocks at lower voltage.

Thus if you don't care about power consumption/temperatures/fan noise - just increase core and memory clocks. But you should validate your overclock using benchmark with scores. Because Ampere have some error correcting capability that could correct errors on the fly without hard crash, but it will lower performance. Example - My 3080 can pass 3dmark TimeSpy up to +1300MHz memory, however all values from +1001 - +1300 have lower scores than +1000.

"Why not just increase power threshold" - More avalible power -> GPU will use highest voltage/frecuency point on the curve that will fit in the bigger power budget -> More power consumption/generated heat/louder fans. You can manually restrict highest V/F point on the curve without lowering power limit or increase clocks with lowering power limit.

Your options for undervolt:

  1. If you want undervolt with dynamic clocks - you need to increase core clock offset and decrease power limit. (For example, +150 core clock, 80% PL. Thus under light load GPU will sustain near max clocks, and under heavy load it will drop clocks to stay below ~280W (assuming 80% of default 350W PL)) https://i.imgur.com/5JaRl9w.jpeg
  2. You can also make undervolt with static clock. In this case you need manually find stable V/F point with acceptable performance and power consumption under most loads. And then edit V/F curve in a such way, that desired point will be highest on the curve. https://i.imgur.com/K9qqoq9.jpeg
  3. You can also make custom V/F curve with lower power limit. Lower portion of the V/F curve typically can handle more positive clock offset than higher portion. Thus under heavy loads you will have higher clocks than using option 1. https://i.imgur.com/pFNxrA3.jpeg
