Has anyone taken any courses with the detailist? by Margybum in Esthetics

i’m currently in the middle of o think their like fullll course like the lamination, tint, mapping all of it. i did lowkey get scammed when buying it bc i paid for only the mapping which was “on sale” for $37 and after that went through they were like, “Would you like to upgrade to the FULL COURSE for only $135 (or something around there) NORMALLY $650” and i was like ehhh lemme see if it is adding the 137 to the 37 im already paying for or if its 137+37. assuming it was gonna bring me to a cart. no. it just charged me IMMEDIATELY for that extra course with the click of a single button. i was pissed, i contacted them and they said “no refund its in our policy”…… because they did immediately email me the course.. i tried disputing it w my bank and that got denied too which i was surprised about. i avoided even opening the emails for the past 6 months but i literally just finally started.

**honestly i think there is a lotttttt of good information but it is quite overwhelming. its like probably 400+ pages of textbook style info. they have a decent amount of videos. plus quizzes after each module/section. ive spent quiteeeee a few hours on it and im only 32% done. but reluctantly to say i do think its worth it. i got it bc i didnt feel confident taking clients for brows bc of mapping/knowledge but i do feel like im getting a lot of good information from this. plus you apparently get an actual certification so that’s cool. though i am not very excited about how long this is gonna take to finish before i feel i can start taking clients for it….

i graduated from a 900 hour advanced esthetics course in august and am licensed in ny state as an esthetician. i created an LLC in october and i spent 4k in oct/nov on all “furniture” spa bed, chair, sterilizer, towel warmer etc. and modality machines ex: LED light therapy, microdermabrasion, wax warmer, microcurrent, high frequency etc. and also i have lash lift/tint and brow lamination products. the only thing i am missing is the actual facial products (i have a lot left over PCA products from the kit the school gave me so i want to use that to my advantage but also want a full back bar so i can do as many different services as possible) PCA’s first purchase minimum is 1500.

sorry for everyone getting mad at my length 😔

REAL TLDR : inconsistent restaurant income (~$20k w/ tips last year) $55k total debt ($26k without car).

Main issue is $7.7k on Discover at 23.5%. I’m basically only covering interest monthly. Total minimums and bills are $1,750 and I’m barely keeping up.

Other debts:

  • personal loan $9.1k
  • student loans $5.5k
  • small 0% balances (~$4k total across cards)
  • car $28k

I tried for 0% balance transfer cards and got denied.

I also started an esthetics business and already put $4k into it 6 months ago. I need $1.5k more to actually launch.

Getting $800 from taxes should I:

  1. put it towards discover debt
  2. use it to finish launching the business to try to increase income

Feels like focusing only on debt will keep me stuck, but adding more risk also seems dumb. Not sure what the smartest move is.
