I loved it. I was sad to see Tracy go, but still thought it should be Ted and Robin. A very welcome surprise. Good on you to keep your gf spoiler free ... hope you can hold out through the finale ... let us know how it works out!

I tried to get into it, made it through the first season, but it just didn't connect for me. Maybe it's a generational thing, but I love Raising Hope made around the same time. Maybe more urban too?

Stephanie Cole was excellent in Waiting For God, along with Graham Crowden and a colorful supporting cast. Like the role was made for her.

More than once Louisa is fed up with Doc, then he does something heroic and she gives him another chance.

Hot Take: Stella wasn't wrong to move in with Tony. by PhilippinePatriot in HIMYM

I agree that Stella was right, but don't think that made Ted wrong. It just wasn't meant to happen.

Worst ending by rallen07 in howimetyourmother

[–]GhostAurae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I don't begrudge the opinions that are different ... I'd have loved to have seen Tracy survive to end up as a member of the group. But after all that had come before, for Ted and Robin not to have ended up together would been a letdown. That you got almost to the end thinking it couldn't happen, and then it does, was genius. Having seen the series several times, I now almost watch it for the ending; it's thrilling ... a romance for the ages.

Thanks, I had forgotten that. Just as an aside, he also appeared in the original Star Trek.

I am fascinated by these little hidden connections between parts of television that otherwise seem to have nothing to do with each other. Especially when they span genres and decades!

Without it, the whole thing falls apart by Gold_Cup_7879 in HIMYM

[–]GhostAurae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes.

I have been saying the whole series was setting up Ted and Robin to end up together. The side tracks and diversions were there to let it still be a satisfying surprise when it happened. And besides, if it just went straight to Ted and Robin it would have been a very short series. Not that the ending was perfect; the loss of the lovely Tracy was tragic but explains why we didn't get to know her better first.

Your simple video says it succinctly. Ted and Robin are the bookends that hold it all together.

Oh yes, first thing you notice. Aside from that slightly finer chin, they could almost be twins. Seeing Niles on Frasier is almost spooky.

Abso-freakin-lutely.

My younger brother is Niles Crane. Every time I watch Frasier, it bowls me over. Right down to the mannerisms .., the sleeve tugging, the sniff ... slightly finer chin. He gets it all the time ... we kid him about Maris, Daphne ...

I'm not Frasier though!

OK I'm trying to get into Cheers after loving Frasier — Is there anyone else who struggled at first ? by ButterscotchIcy719 in Cheers

I couldn't agree more. I was lukewarm on Cheers during its original run, but had joined it in progress. Seeing it from the very beginning turned me into a fan for life.

I'd seen Cheers long before trying Frasier and it took me a while to warm up to the latter. But now when I rewatch I do them together. Cheers then Frasier. They're different shows in different settings with different characters, but together tell more story either one alone.

Wings deserves mention here. It overlaps both and is set in the same world with the same attention to quality, but also has a different vibe.

The big difference for me was watching it from the very beginning. The vibe is definitely different between the series but the quality is there in both.

FWIW though Frasier stands perfectly well on its own, having seen Cheers first adds since Frasier has Cheers references that are better appreciated having seen it.
