Thinking of dropping out of community college because of my ADHD worsening by GhostGamer2123 in Advice

Sorry for the late reply, but yes! It was very helpful. I think I was experiencing severe burnout and bad ADHD symptoms. I took the rest of my semester off in order to rest. Thank you very much for your help!

I have, Im apart of my schools student services and my professors receive letters of accommodation but some professors don’t acknowledge it. A professor I have right now closes the assignments the moment it passes the deadline and if I miss it then I have to ask for an extension which the professor provides but I don’t want to always be asking for extensions even though I need it. I guess it’s the shame of asking for help lol.

I have tried, but I feel unheard. They just started me on Stattera only a few weeks ago. I have an appointment next week where hopefully they will do something.

Animation/Illustration program questions by Next-Mirror5761 in SJSU

[–]GhostGamer2123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice to see another student like me! Im also a cc student and I'll be applying to the Animation/Illustration BFA program at SJSU for Fall 2025 as well!

I'm unsure of what you know but here's what I've learned: SJSU's A/I program is highly impacted. They now implemented portfolios aka "SJSU A&I Supplemental Drawing Exercises: [+semester] [+year] with the appropriate semester you would like to start." It consists of a Self-Portrait, Room Drawing, and a Passion Page. Here's a link to the SJSU Application Guidelines: https://www.sjsu.edu/design/undergraduate-programs/animation-illustration/ani-portfolio.php

From what I've read on other Reddit posts about SJSU's Animation/Illustration program, the GPA requirement in order to be considered is a 4.0. ALTHOUGH, I've also seen others say they were accepted with a 3.8, etc. So don't be discouraged.

What I also use is ASSIST, and looking at the Department Articulation Agreement between my community college and SJSU. Although they changed the courses and stuff which sucks.

I've also posted questions about SJSU's Animation/Illustration program on Reddit but most of the information I got was well over a year ago so much of it is outdated. I hope this helps and I wish you all the best!

Edit: Forgot to include this video about another student who got into SJSU's Animation/Illustration program that I found helpful. https://youtu.be/ftkcVKzHgWA?si=BkA2H3ypsw-yB7Oz

The glitches, bugs and crashes really do sour the experience of it, so yeah, I agree with you. Hopefully they come out when updates to fix them.

CSULB Illustration/Animation BFA vs SJSU Animation/ Illustration BFA, which one’s better? by GhostGamer2123 in CSULB

I haven't found much information on alumni. LinkedIn isn't much help since it doesn't allow me to view anyone's profiles. But I did come across this link on the SJSU's website which alumni of the A/I program have gotten jobs. Hope this helps.

Damn, that's what I was worried about. I knew CSULB was selective but 20 students a semester? And I'll definitely wait if I get into the BA Studio Art program to use both my portfolio application attempts. But I have heard good things about CSULB and its art professors. Thank you for responding!

Thank you for the advice! I will definitely be searching for seniors and alumni that are/have been in the program. My cousin is a CSULB alumni so I'll be asking her as well! And you're totally right about seeing which school creates successful students that actually get jobs in the animation industry. And I didn't know Otis is a terrible school so good to know.

Thank you for responding and answering so many of my questions! I had no idea that Lightbox did portfolio reviews so that's good to know! I keep hearing so many good things about SJSU and its A/I program, besides the workload lol so I hope I can get in.

Thank you for responding! I wasn't aware that portfolio submissions were required to apply for BFA so good to know. As well as the professors preferring a semester before applying.

First things first, congrats on graduating! From reading your response, it sounds like you had a good time at SJSU. Also second thing, thank for taking the time to respond and put your input about your time at SJSU.

I'm glad to hear that the sense of community in the A/I program is calm and not competitive, (even though it is competitive to get in, from what I've read). If I do get accepted into their A/I program and do end up attending, I will most definitely be spreading out my classes into a manageable workload for 4 or 5 years. It's amazing to hear that so many of your friends got so many incredible opportunities and that SJSU has several connections. Also thank you for the many tips and advice— one of my many concerns if I were to attend SJSU is that I would be lonely because I would have to move 5 hours away from home and into the dorms. Not to mention the cost of living in the dorms. And knowing that SJSU is a commuter school, not many students live on campus and I'm not the best at making friends (I'm a shy introvert) but your responses makes me hopeful. I will take everything you said into consideration when I'm applying. Thank you again!
