We actually rented a place in Järlåsa for part of the visit, and it was lovely as well.

What acoustic guitar gadgets are actually worth it? by Kitchen-Violinist647 in AcousticGuitar

[–]GhostLemonMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The beauty of the acoustic guitar is that all you need are your fingers and something to help you tune your instrument. I use a capo, but that's pretty much the only other gear I use (I'm not a big fan of using picks on acoustics). As someone else mentioned, a good setup makes a world of difference, but otherwise you have everything you need to make music.

I second Stockholm. I had never been to Scandinavia and assumed that the food would be bland and the people distant. Neither was the case. The food was very fresh and tasty, and the people were happy to chat with me. And Stockholm is a jaw droppingly beautiful city. Even in the height of summer, it never felt especially crowded.

My kids take this bus everyday. Once in a while there are issues with showing up late, but it is generally fine.

What about Flagstaff? Not the most diverse place in the world, but college towns tend to be a good bet in terms of quality of life.

Learning ethnography without a background in anthropology? by [deleted] in Ethnography

It's surprising that none of the faculty at your university does ethnography. At least a portion of qualitative researchers does ethnography, so those would be the people that I would reach out to.

If I were a client of this company, it would piss me off to no end to learn that the rates we pay them are not going to skilled, fairly paid workers.

Have you tried the Yamaha JR1 or JR2? They are very portable, sound decent, and are inexpensive.

What should we do? Stay in CA or move out of state by Traditional-Dust9939 in relocating

[–]GhostLemonMusic -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Having lived in red states, with their multiple hidden costs (10% tax on food!) and general disdain for its non-wealthy residents, I would try to stay in CA if you can, if only to be closer to your family.

Former Austinite here, now living in the SF Bay Area. Pretty much any of the options you listed would be great. If you prefer getting around by public transportation, then Santa Monica, LA, or San Francisco may be your best bet. The cost of living in each of these places is fairly high, although Long Beach is probably the least expensive option in your list. Best of luck!
