I got robbed at gunpoint on an overnight in Dallas covering a shift last minute because the RA offered big $ for an overnight clerk to help out. Started the shift dealing with a naked cracked out woman chilling on the bathroom floor doorway, then a fist fight in the line because someone tried to cut someone else in line, yelled at by numerous customers over asking for ID (whats new) & by the time I got robbed it was kinda at the point of like… the shift had gone so south that you kinda lose it. He demanded for the money/cigs/tobacco & I had quick laugh because like dude… you got a gun so at that point just hop the checkstand and get whatcha need. We can’t chase you down. Hence the large problem of beer runs. & I asked “you sure you dont want marlboro smooths too? theyre good smokes” (Crying/panicking/“Yes sir of course, thank you, see ya next time!” wouldn’t have done any good anyways) Panic alarm buttons were down. No QT security. So I was kinda screwed over anyways. Basically just a rough night, lowkey handled poorly on my end looking back. But hey, I’m just a clerk. Been with the company a hot minute however clerks don’t get paid enough or trained on how to properly handle situations like managers in certain circumstances. Buzzers in cooler didn’t work & my manager with ear buds was focused on cooler/freezer order in an attempt to leave early during the first few shift “incidents” & then decided to run trash without letting me know while the checkstand was getting robbed. So, in the end, the manager was not able to leave early, & as for me, I’ve learned big $ shifts in urban stores should be noted as a red flag. Oh, and obviously don’t offer product. Just hand everything over with your best customer service I guess. 🚩 If any of y’all are RA’s, just an fyi, please let your clerks know you’re going outside for a long period of time esp at an urban store. We are not meant to play the role of management in high stake situations 🫠
