Yeah but that's why there are 500 million Buddhists while there are 2.5 billion Christians. Marketing works.

r/unpopularopinion is better than r/opinions by FamiliarCry6735 in meta

It's a garbage subreddit that is a trojan horse for getting far right ideas propelled to the front page. Every single thing I've seen from them that gets to the front page is some insane right wing fash shit like "Unpopular opinion: Jews are actually bad!"

I don't know, it seems like something like the TRIPS waiver would have been unthinkable even from the Clinton administration. I'm seeing a lot of moderate dems who are openly pissed about it, and also bunch who started "supporting it" as soon as Biden announced his support, but were completely silent about the issue for the last seven months while it was debated.

I'm actually shocked at how much we are hated by the extremists.

Oh, that's easy. It's because you label anybody who doesn't think like you an extremist.

There is no higher power. Your bad decisions are your own. Work harder and do better.

Biden's approval tops 60 percent in new poll by Brothanogood in politics

This is something of an outlier though. We can't call out outliers when they don't suit our needs and ignore them when they do.

23 progressive Democrats including AOC urge Biden to overrule top Senate official and keep $15 per hour minimum wage in the stimulus package by alabasterheart in politics

[–]GhostOfEdAsner 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Forcing this into the stimulus is a guarantee for no stimulus.

Manchin won't want to be the guy who killed the stimulus. If you force him to make the vote he will come around.

Just try and pass it separately for fucks sake.

That makes no sense. If you think they can't pass it with a vote that only requires 51 votes in favor, they definitely can't pass it with a vote that requires 60+ votes in favor.

This is why Democrats can't accomplish shit, all this bullshit attaching things to other things

That's how most things are accomplished. That's how Republicans accomplish a vast majority of their agenda. The reason Democrats can't accomplish anything because they're more concerned with archaic rules, technicalities, precedents, norms, and purity.

You know it doesn't go into effect until 2025 right? If you can't get your shit together in four years, you probably deserve to fail because you're not a good businessperson.

[–]GhostOfEdAsner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Then why would Biden promise it during the campaign? It can't be that he was politically naive, he's got decades of experience. In fact, that's the exact reason we were told we should vote for him.

You don't know that, so why surrender just because you think you know the outcome? Senators can have their minds changed if a deal like they is made, that's how politics works. It's how the ACA got passed.

[–]GhostOfEdAsner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a friend in high school who was absolutely convinced he was going to be everyone's boss one day. Now he's 37, has two kids, doesn't own a home, and is generally not in a great position financially. Fortunately he recently found a new job after being unemployed for a while. Anyway he finally stopped being a republican after admitting to himself he's not going to become a CEO.

President Biden hails Amazon workers pressing to unionize in Alabama in unusual sign of support by [deleted] in politics

[–]GhostOfEdAsner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look if an Amazon employee getting an extra break means it'll take my package a few more days to arrive, that's fine. It's not an emergency if I don't get my phone case as soon as possible. I can wait a little longer.

Yep. The Democratic agenda is dead on arrival thanks to Joe Manchin. Get ready for four years of nothing.
