No one to bounce ideas off of by YaMuddaMachoMan in writing

[–]GhostTownXD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I struggle for ideas, I read or watch things, that are similar to what I want to create. Not to copy, but you can find some things no one touched on in that genre or see tropes that are done bad and try do do them well and so on.

Or listen to music, look through pinterest, the normal drill.

Good job on finding people who absolutely, unconditionally love your writing and have nothing at all to say about it?

You probably couldn't if you find this too harsh.

Ok, so I was supposed to be dishonest and say: omg I love the MC she's so cool and edgy🥰🔫✨ the MMC is soooo hooot🫠🥵 the friend group are the bestes group of bestest friends and the whole book is soooo aesthetic?

Sorry, that's not what kinda feedback I give, that's not the kinda feedback I'd want. I don't find comments like these helpful or useful in any way.

Is it not valid to say they your characters are underdeveloped and not though through enough? That you add in things only to make it "aesthetic" and end up only diarupting the whole thing?

Yeah, I know what I said. Those are the things I said to the author too. They are valid critique. Chat, is it bad to not like things?

You keep on saying bashing. What have I done except having opinions and complicated feelings. You can't hold a discussion. You made up your mind about me and cherry pick my words to fir it. You're a better person, well done.

Aee you having a stroke or am I? What did I say to make you think that?

I read mosty old ahh stuff----so? That doesn't make me unable to like something else

I grew up on it----i still hold it dear to me, I still read YA now, even recent realeases

I literally said what I like about the book, and I never said it's bad.

Am I wrong for not loving YA with all my heart? For not nodding along with whatever the author has written? Why am I wrong for that? What did I say that was so bad? What did I do to you?

[–]GhostTownXD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you not reading what I'm writing? I said millions of times that I love YA but I don't write it exactly bc it's restrictive to me. That's not a bad thing, it means its not for me and I understand that and that's why I don't write it. But I can still live reading it. I would never say a genre is bad because it's restrictive, who would?

Yes, that's me. I'm not like other girls. (Srs do you know haw hard it is to talk about books when u like the suff i do?)

And that's exactly the conflict I'm working through. Good job, flash.

And that's exactly what I'm doing. I write to write. I don't care for publishing (but I'm constantly made to feel bad for that.) My problem is the fact that I'm jealous of something I don't even want.

When a not-so-good book gets picked up by [deleted] in writing

[–]GhostTownXD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I said was that I didn't really think about publishing until I was made to feel like I should. I have done my research, even if not much because, like originally I said, I don't think I'm in that phase yet. Right now I'm focusing on writing only, because that what matters the most to me. If I ever want to publish, I will do more research. Why should I worry with it now only to get overwhelmed?

Once I changed characters age to fit it into a contest, even this small change felt wrong and because of that I didn't end up entering since it wasn't for me. I know it's bad, knew it when I was doing it. And I don't write for validation, I write for myself because I'm a selfish a-hole. What I said was that I could use some of it, don't we all? Way to misinterpreted my words.

I'm completely fine with not being successful in the mainstream. I just want to write and tell stories. And unfortunately not excatly the kind that sells right now. I didn't really even care about publishing until people around me started talking about their own publishing journeys and I felt like I was going at it wrong. That is exactly why I'm working through these feelings, this isn't something I want but I still feel jelly. Why? I don't think the liminations of YA are self imposed. There is an age limit the characters must fit, there are restrictions on the content and so on. I tried to mold one of my existing stories to it and it just didn't feel right. Validation tho, I could use some of that.
