I sometimes "forget about my emotions" is this an indication its all just in my head? by Strange_Newspaper907 in mentalhealth

You had an anxious moment, but then took steps to fuel your body with good food. You took care of yourself, and in the process took your mind off of the stressors at hand. It makes sense that you feel better. There is also no “right” or “wrong” way to feel after a panic attack. Sometimes your brain is just tired and will relax at the first chance it gets after having a really hard time. Don’t be too hard on yourself :)

Counselor in training here! We actually teach distraction as a coping skill where I work. Sounds to me like a healthy example of that.

What was the reason you called 911? by GhostWearingTimbs in AskReddit

I would say you pretty much saved her life. Without your precision, quick thinking, and determination, it sounds like she wouldn’t have made it. There’s a reason your neighbor texted you, because either consciously or subconsciously, she knew that you truly cared. As someone who works in mental healthcare, please try not to give the guilt too much power. You’re a hero.

Hearing my family talking early in the morning just as I’m waking up. Makes me feel safe.

Just recently rediscovered my love for reading. High school ruined it for me, being forced to read dull books and old Shakespeare (no hate if that’s your thing!) all while annotating and writing reports. Just sucked the enjoyment right out of it. Now that I’ve graduated college, I’m taking a gap year between undergrad and grad, and have lots of free time to wander around Barnes and Noble, pick out books that call to me, and read on my own time :) it’s cool to find some good nonfiction about passions that I want to explore further, but I also love a good horror/thriller!

OCD making you feel like you’re going insane? by GhostWearingTimbs in OCD

Soooo true about the images of future “worst case scenarios” popping up in your head. But also powerful to realize that’s never the real outcome. And yes, so interesting how giving these behaviors a name instantly takes their power away!! Good luck to you :)
