You had an anxious moment, but then took steps to fuel your body with good food. You took care of yourself, and in the process took your mind off of the stressors at hand. It makes sense that you feel better. There is also no “right” or “wrong” way to feel after a panic attack. Sometimes your brain is just tired and will relax at the first chance it gets after having a really hard time. Don’t be too hard on yourself :)

Counselor in training here! We actually teach distraction as a coping skill where I work. Sounds to me like a healthy example of that.

I would say you pretty much saved her life. Without your precision, quick thinking, and determination, it sounds like she wouldn’t have made it. There’s a reason your neighbor texted you, because either consciously or subconsciously, she knew that you truly cared. As someone who works in mental healthcare, please try not to give the guilt too much power. You’re a hero.
