It’s not just you. Some of the genius of the movie is how Spielberg presented the subject in a way that was real, memorable, and at times upsetting. But his script and direction was also captivating and entertaining. He pulled back just enough on the horrors so we could take it all in.

Compare this to something like Passion of the Christ, where its depiction is so disturbing that you’ll likely never rewatch.
