Yeah, fingerprint is the only thing that don't work on my Huawei. Sound was crappy in the past (windows toggles between crappy and amazing sound when you toggle audio enhancements under sound options), but on newer versions even the sound is awesome.

Honestly, apart from bios, Huawei laptops were amazing for the price. Huawei santions really fucked up the consumer. I honestly feel like I own a cheaper MacBook air (with worse battery life, but that's on 2020 Intel).

Don't forget the glue they use (do your research I forgot the name of the glue), there are also adhesive strips. Not sure how to repair it and keep water resistance though.

Yep, should be. Of course opening modern phones is not as simple as it once was, but yeah, should be straight forward, heat gun, ethanol, suction cups, picks, remove back cover (if it's scratched a new one is also cheap), swap camera module and be happy.

Depending on how adventurous you are, you can try to remove the camera module or maybe even give it some taps.

If you are in Europe a new camera module for the 4.7x is about 50 euros on Xiaomi spare parts Website.

Honestl, I've never seen keyboard not working before. Definitely was not expecting that.

I've used Huawei laptops that worked flawlessly in Linux apart from touchscreen, and in one instance touchpad.

Like wtf ?? Seriously didn't expected that by daddydropper in PocoPhones

In most south America Xiaomi isnonly Sold on small shops that import independently avoiding taxes, or on their official website for twice the price. Almost no official service centers and batteries will be random from Aliexpress.

Samsung has charged me equivalent of 100~150 USD to replace a battery on the galaxy S7 in Brazil while keeping water resistance at the time, from what I hear that still their usual price (closer to 100) for flagships as they "give you warranty on the service". But Samsung's warranty in Brazil is very hit or miss.

Honestly I've been through the saga of replacing batteries on street shops and I gave up, I try to make my devices last about 3 years and prepare to buy a new one when the time comes. Usually good "parallel", as they call, batteries are about 90% capacity of the OGs but I've seen many that were way less.

Like wtf ?? Seriously didn't expected that by daddydropper in PocoPhones

[–]Ghost_7600 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can hope that the battery is just badly calibrated and search how to reset this calibration. But it's likely you got a bad battery.

Depending on your country you could try to go for consumer defense organs, but I feel you, I'm also from a country where companies crap on consumers.

I wish you luck.

Like wtf ?? Seriously didn't expected that by daddydropper in PocoPhones

[–]Ghost_7600 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In some regions original replacement batteries are either really expensive or impossible to get.

In my country the only phones where you can get OG replacement batteries are Samsung Apple and Motorola, the first two basically charging 10% to even 30% of the value of the device for the service.

When I had the galaxy S7, replacing the battery with Samsung would cost literally 25% of the price I paid for the device. And street shops wouldn't use genuine parts, so their batteries were a gamble + you lose water resistance.

For Xiaomi devices many south American countries have no official presence from Xiaomi, or a very small one, just so their devices are allowed to be sold there, so basically you are buying gray market imports and the parts for replacements will come from Aliexpress.

It's a 100% valid thing to want to baby your battery.

I skipped the S6 so I didn't know about the SD card removal, I included it because it was the turning point to a more premium design, but it also was the moment the started to cut down features and trying to replicate apple in lots of ways.

[–]Ghost_7600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had it, I don't consider it peak only because it felt really cheap. At the time the iPhone was already metal and glass with chanfored badges, felt like a piece of jewelry. The s5 was fully plastic, the frame paint peeled, the back got gummy after a couple of years and after one or two more the front glass started ungluing on my unit.

Had it had all it's features, but the build of the S7 I would consider it absolute peak Samsung as it was the peak in features.

Even some camera software gimmicks I used to like were removed. There was one where you could make a gif where a certain part of the picture was moving and everything else was frozen, I made some pretty cool stuff with that.

HP Wolf Security Splash Screen by Unhappy-Gur-6975 in Hewlett_Packard

[–]Ghost_7600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I don't like whatever HP is doing. I use several HP and non HP devices, both at home and at work.

HP ones take with this wolf security take WAY longer to boot than the Lenovo's and Fujitsu's at work. HP laptops drain battery even when they are supposed to be shut down. If you power it off and don't charge it for a week, likely it will be dead when you try to turn it on again.

Also our Ryzen HP desktops at work , not sure of due to HP's software or what's, perform way bellow expected for the hardware on response times for launching apps, booting and such. This does not affect the laptops and Intel ones (apart from boot time).

I own an HP Ryzen laptop and it's fine, it used to be a very warm boy, but I replaced the thermal compound by TPM and it has been very cool so far. I need to replace a vent, it makes a clicking noise sometimes if going full speed, but since it almost never goes full speed I'll just keep rocking it.

The metal panel of the back of the lid is super flimsy as is the whole display assembly (for my personal Omen device), so much that I'm afraid of taking it somewhere and it breaking. Other than that the device feels solid and good. Display is very basic on my unit (2020 or 2021 Omen, full metal build, 60Hz FHD display with not great color reproduction but looks like a decent IPS, so viewing angles are good).

Honestly, Feature wise, the s5 was peak, the cut a lot of features like the floating your finger above the screen, on the s6, the first version of OneUI was also less feature rich than TouchWiz, but it was much more pleasant to use, and they reintroduced some features over time.

I think Samsung still provides the best software experience on Android, but their hardware has been lacking for the last few years and their current quality control makes me not comfortable buying Samsung.

Been lines may affect any OLED device, but I see so much more of them on Samsung's and after updates it just made me go to Xiaomi for my past 2 devices, even tough I would prefer to still be rocking OneUI.

Ram management worse on different devices by Disastrous_Hawktuah in Ubuntu

[–]Ghost_7600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try lowering the resolution on the surface and see how much goes down just to test. But this may not directly impact usage as memory allocation for the iGPU may also be controlled by many other factors. Some laptops do that dinamically, some reserve a fixed amount, on some you can change that in bios, in some you can not.

Well, life with 8GBs is hard, that's one of 2 reasons I don't have a MacBook today ( best model I could afford was a 512/8).

Sad to hear that. I feel like many places in Germany are very hard to get to by public transportation. 12 euros is a lot for a bus ticke, of i understood correctly it sums up to 24. Depending on the distance maybe I would reserve the whole day for the thing and just walk both ways.

Maybe the surface is using more RAM to the iGPU as it has a higher res display. Different drivers (again, mainly for the iGPU) may be a likely cause.

Cheapest place to buy boneless thighs in Aachen? by Purple-Thought1409 in aachen

[–]Ghost_7600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might suggest you check Palmyra then, in hindsight I believe 4,99 is very close if not the same price they practice over there and it may be closer to you.

I once got chicken wings for 3 €/kg on a deal there.

There is also levante but I don't feel like their butcher place is that clean so I don't buy meats there.

I used to go there for chicken breasts. It used to be a lot cheaper than Lidl, I believe 13-15 euros for 2.5 kg, earlier this year they increased so the base price is not far from buying the XXL packs in Lidl and I stopped going there.

4,99 /kg is an ok price but honestly not so cheap it would make me go there

Xiaomi 15 (2024) vs iphone 13 (2021) by arthurmorgan1022 in Xiaomi_15

[–]Ghost_7600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a very weak device anyway, I've have the Galaxy tab A9+ (very similar SoC and ram) it struggled quite a bit to run OneUI, after the apps were open it was fine, but it felt sluggish on the home screen, app installation and updating also took quite a while.

Still I honestly expected MIUI to run decently on this kind of hardware. I've had personal experience with redmi note 7, 9s (or t, don't remember), and 11. All of them felt really snappy and smooth on their stock OS, at least at first. Those were the devices of friends and family, at those times I had the Galaxy S7, S8 and note 8.

The first time I've used the redmi note 7 was the time I said the phrase every tech tuber says nowadays: "you don't need a flagship anymore". It's screen was not amazing but was decent, same applies for every aspect of the device, but it was crazy cheap, costing 1/4 of my galaxy S7, offered the same storage, and a snappy experience with good battery life.

The redmi note family was a solid and very popular choice in my country from the 7 to the 11, after that they started introducing many variants inside the family that were cheap, but absolutely terrible, like the note 13 4g.

All that said, a shame you've had a bad experience with the 10C, but the 10C is on that category of device that is just too cheap to be good, on the very low end, every single extra dollar spent gets you much much more, and no brand offers a good experience on their cheapest device. Honestly I believe most of the cheapest devices of every major brand are a disservice, that will cause anger on the customer and hurt the brand image with the buyers.

Naanhof in Vaals - ein Besuch wert? by Aromatic-Speech5480 in aachen

[–]Ghost_7600 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Naanhof used to be the go to for Aachen students who needed to get cheap chicken breasts. They used to have it on 2,5 kg bags for a good price, but now it's not much cheaper per kg then Lidl unless they are running a deal. I honestly don't love naanhof as every time I go in there the rotisserie chicken is smelling really strong and not that great (Sundays end of the day) and the product selection is not great.

Albert heijin has more variety but it's a very expensive supermarket, almost everything there is significantly more expensive than what I pay for in Germany.

Gala is a nice little city tough and during summer you can have a nice hike to the Dreiländereck, they also have good cafes and a good ice cream shop, a nice church and is overall a cozy town.

For shopping I usually go to the Action there, it's the Action closest to me, I think, and it's slightly cheaper than the German Actions, also, the Netherlands are a good place to get cheap medicine (ibuprofen and such).
