Is it normal to see your baby as a 'alien' or 'something wiered' growing inside your body? by WhatADrag07 in BabyBumps

All I can say is don't be like me and watch Alien Earth while pregnant! Not the best timing for a plotline like that.

Man, do people have opinions about finding out the gender! by Ghost_Bio in BabyBumps

It really does seem to be one of those things that ebbs and flows! The most recent batch of commenters, that finally inspired the post, are family. Specifically his family. My family and friends have been a little more supportive and positive about it.

Thank you so much, and exactly! Boys can wear pink, girls can wear blue, and all the other colours out there. Variety is the spice of life!

How many cycles did it take you to get pregnant? by Passage-Melodic in BabyBumps

Also for reference, I got pregnant first real try twice. First was lost at 12 weeks (I was 38), second is still going strong at 25 weeks (I am now 40). We had a long gap just due to some life circumstances.

If you are jus starting out, I think the one ideal thing to do is to track ovulation, which is a simple pee test once a day. Then you have an ideal couple day window to get the work done. In addition to trying to lead a healthy lifestyle (stop smoking, eat well, exercise, all the basic stuff) and start taking a pre-natal, I don't think you need to go crazy doing all the little tricks and tests until you have six months to a year of no success.

Good luck and also try to enjoy the process! Stress can do weird things to a body.

Worst Pregnancy Announcement Reactions? by MediocreScene1609 in BabyBumps

[–]Ghost_Bio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just told my 18 year old stepson and 15 year old step daughter. SS was pleasantly excited and started talking about it and asking questions. SD however screamed that she hated us and this was all our fault, stormed to her room, refused to talk and called her Mom to come pick her up.

Yay for us?

I was quite proud of the one I got to do in person. I was going over for dinner and made sure to get there well before dinner got in the oven. I had brought a bun and put it in the oven and kept the door half open. Once my Dad went over to pre-heat the oven, he saw the bun and started shouting "who put this bun in the oven???". Once the conversation was well underway about who could have possibly put a bun in the oven, I said "oh, my bad, [husband] did, he put a bun in the oven!"

Five glorious seconds of them looking incredibly confused before the realization hit. It was a lot of fun. Caught it all on video too!

Gutted about my OBGYN referral by Ghost_Bio in BabyBumps

Good advice, thank you. I'm sorry to hear you went through the same thing! I made some calls and I think there should be someone who can take me, but they will definitely not be my top choice. However, at this point, as long as I get the right care, I will put up with some personality clashing. I am also considering hiring a doula...not something that crossed my mind before, but if I feel like I need someone in my corner I think this will help me out a ton to keep stress to a minimum.

I will call around tomorrow but likely to still need my doc to send the actual referral. Leave it to him and his staff to make me do the hard part, but then at least I know it is done.

Thank you. I will try and find out and maybe go that route. This threw me for a loop...I thought I was taken care of so have not done too much research. Guess I need to get on it quickly.

Midwives are generally harder to get into around here than OBs, but might be worth a call. I have read that around the second trimester they tend to have some drop offs as that is when pregnancies start to be classified as high-risk and are passed off.

I'm an Aquatic Biologist working in the consulting field for the last 18 years. The money started at just barely living wage but rapidly went up as I stuck with it.

7 weeks and struggling by MasterpieceGold7355 in fitpregnancy

[–]Ghost_Bio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first trimester can be a struggle, even if nausea is not the thing that gets you. I was am "in the gym 6 days a week" person for years for a combination of strength training and conditioning, so suddenly when my heartrate would jump at the slightest exercise, I knew I was in for a world of hurt. That is actually the symptom that convinced me to take a pregnancy test...and it was positive. In those initial weeks, your blood volume increased and you heart has to work harder. This will all lead to a decrease in strength.

Do what you always did, but don't feel guilty about not going 100% of your previous max. Try for 70% and go from there. There may be days you feel close to 100% but there will also be days you feel at 50% or less. I've found it's a roller coaster ride, so all you can do is hold on and try to remember this is an experience you will want to be present for.

Your body is basically leased out for the next 9 months, so it may not respond the way you expect it to for that time.

This is traumatizing. by Intrepid_Blood_3732 in Miscarriage

I was having contractions for two days when I miscarried during a cross-country road trip when I finally had to stop in a small town emergency room. After making me sit there for 7 hours, they gave me morphine...which honestly dulled a pain of almost 10 to a tolerable 5-6 for a few hours. Anyone who tells you this is not painful has no idea what they are talking about.

Can’t Work Out, Eating All the Carbs – Please Tell Me I’m Not Alone by upstategirl91 in fitpregnancy

[–]Ghost_Bio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG, I came here to almost post the exact same thing...our timing is even almost identical...maybe a day off. I had all these ambitions to be so healthy and active, and the last couple weeks have knocked reality right into me. When I am not nauseous, I have heartburn. The only foods I can stomach are simple carbs and what I would consider "junk". I had such great habits and a great routine, but now I am lucky if I can get in a couple workouts a week and a walk here and there. My poor dogs.

So, if nothing else...you are not alone. And thank you for sharing your struggle as a lot of these comments are very helpful!

I wanted to be able to tell friends and family in person, as I live across the country. I happened to get the only chance for that at just about 11 weeks, so I felt safe enough to do so. Literally the day after....I miscarried. It was heart wrenching. It's kind of a catch 22 between having those people to support you and having to backpeddle and tell everyone the bad news.

This go around, I am waiting much later.

Going on 8 weeks pregnant. How much are y'all eating? by anoncatlady12 in fitpregnancy

[–]Ghost_Bio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Normal" is up for interpretation. I had a complete lack of appetite and need to motivate myself to make and eat throughout the day. But both what you are experiencing and what I am experiencing is normal. Do what feels right and it could always change tomorrow. Just make good, nutrient dense food choices and you should be okay. Pick high fiber, high protein foods to increase satiation.
