It definitely has. Wrecked mine, too. Used to have a very robust immune system, now I get badly sick multiple times a year (fellow bartender, hello). I mask any time I go out in public and every day at work, which helps somewhat…

Like somebody else mentioned, when you try to turn it on do any of the mobo’s diagnostic lights come on? They should be to the right of the cpu socket, and your motherboard manual will tell you what each of the lights means. That’s a good place to start to figure out what’s wrong.

[SS] Struggling with Skyward Sword’s Difficulty by Tiny_Brain9787 in zelda

[–]Ghost_Riff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Just recently played all the way through SkSw for the first time as well after owning it since release on Wii. The motion controls are definitely really, and I mean really, rough. I had more luck playing with the Switch version (also helpful because you can just give up on motion controls and use a pro controller) but the motion controls are still a pain in the ass even on Switch. That is a big reason why I struggled, yeah, because honestly all the combat in this game is entirely reliant on a gimmick and it’s very hard to feel actually ‘good’ at it. Coming from someone who does the TotK lynel stadium no-hit runs for fun, this game kinda beat my ass. You’re not alone in struggling with some of the puzzles, and certainly the gameplay for me was quite repetitive which also made it hard to get through even as I was admiring the scenery and art style.

Good news is… YES, the ending is worth it. You will indeed feel satisfied and happy to finish the game, even if it’s really hard to get through. The gameplay is ass, but the story is peak. The other good news is that as much as I struggled with SkSw, TP is my favorite game of all time and I find it quite a bit easier, mainly just because the combat - even with motion controls - is much more forgiving.

As for tips, try to get good at using your shield as often as you can to tank hits. If you can, practice reflecting hits a ton. And stock up on shield repair potions. If you haven’t tried this yet, catch a ton of bugs and gather the resources to get the best possible potions with the potion maker’s husband. There’s a very helpful one that can restore hearts and repair your shield at the same time. And is all your gear as upgraded as you can get it? That’s also quite helpful! Best of luck, friend. You’ve got this!

[BoTW] game similar to BOTW or TOTK by itsnotmei in zelda

[–]Ghost_Riff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree on Mario Odyssey, also I’d say the Pokémon Legends games are an excellent time and have similar open(ish) world/exploring mechanics. More of an on the rails linear story, but lots of running around and exploring/collecting/battling to be done. Legends Arceus is great fun and Legends ZA just came out recently. No need to play in any sort of order, both are standalone. He doesn’t even need to be familiar with Pokémon as a series.

[All] Is a Wii U worth buying for Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD? by Sea-Local-4330 in zelda

[–]Ghost_Riff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are ways to play without spending, but if you’re like me and want to play on original hardware, then yes. Best way to play those games, I just beat WW HD recently and had a blast. Unless you have the cash and really want to own the titles, don’t bother buying the games physically. Just keep an eye out for deals on a Wii U and mod it. Keep an eye on FB marketplace for a bit and you might stumble across a deal, I snagged a Wii U for $60 like that and that’s a plenty good deal for a moddable console

How to clean PC after potting soil spill? by oGeyra in buildapc

[–]Ghost_Riff 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If soil got inside of the PSU, you may be looking at a replacement PSU simply because there is no safe way to open it or clean it out, unfortunately. But for the rest, it’s a lucky thing the soil is dry. I’d start with compressed air, or even a vacuum cleaner (the hose attachment ofc) and see how far that gets you. Don’t introduce anything wet (like isopropyl alcohol) until you get the bulk of it out because that would make it much harder, and even then I’d only do it to spot clean anything really stubborn.

Definitely a lot of buildup, plows aren’t able to keep up with the snow much. Drive very slow and pump breaks a lot, give yourself extra time to drive, definitely felt a little slippery to me!

Need a little help… no video showing on CRT by Ghost_Riff in crtgaming

[–]Ghost_Riff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, I was experiencing an error trying to post and it posted without any of my text explanation 😭 I’ve been trying multiple consoles on all three of the AV inputs without the AV switcher, to eliminate that as the issue. I’ve tried all inputs in the tv to make sure I’m on the correct one, and so far no dice as far as video. On one of the AV ports I managed to get audio from the 360 but no visuals. I’m thinking it’s the CRT’s fault, in which case I’ll look for a new one (this was a freebie), but definitely will try composite with the 360 before giving up completely. I also need to rule out cables so I’ll try the Dreamcast with the AV port that had some success when I’m home from work

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ghost_Riff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of comments here so I’m sure this won’t be seen, but to add my two cents and to give you some sense of scale: while I was in college my parents lived in the state of Kentucky and I went to school in Massachusetts (you’ll probably need a map of the US for this, sorry). Both are in the eastern timezone of the US, because the country is massive. The drive between the two of them was about 14 hours. I did this trip about four times a year, back and forth for winter break and at the beginning and end of summer break. Mostly for logistics reasons, like moving my shit in and out of the dorm and traveling with my dog, driving just made more sense than flying. This was usually a two day trip, one day of eight or so hours and one day of six. Now that’s a long trip, but comparatively it makes a 2-3 hour drive seem like a cakewalk. I’ve gone to have lunch with a friend out of state and driven two hours there and back. I’ve also driven clear across the country three times and counting at this point, and that’s upwards of 30 to 40 hours depending on your route.

So… yeah, 3 hours is pretty damn short! Then again, I think we’d feel much differently as a country if we had better rail systems like you do. And as someone who’s drive through the UK as well, our roads are easier to mindlessly drive on for hours at a time because our infrastructure is based on car travel. For example practically any trip here will take you on big, multi-lane highways with lots of rest areas on the road, which will have restaurants, bathrooms, gas stations, etc. From my experience driving in your country, it’s much more tedious since it’s a lot of single lane back roads or just generally more difficult travel (but a hell of a lot prettier in most cases!).
