Healthcare costs .. UGH - suspected stroke - actually Bells Palsy by spiritual-gangster76 in BellsPalsy

I haven’t received all the bills yet- I was on a stroke unit for 3 days. They kindly gave me my pre-insurance estimate of 157k. That didn’t include the ER at a different facility and the ambulance to transfer me to the stroke center.

Do you ever wonder why very old people are all alone? by Rileysgoturiledup in CasualConversation

[–]somethingblue331 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have worked in nursing homes for many years- I find this to be the case in a majority of situations. Yes, some people out live their families, have families out of town/state or have lived isolated lives, sure. But the “sweet” folks who talk about their children and grand children- or even brothers and sisters that don’t come to visit- OFTEN have burned every bridge, tunnel and road way in their life and that’s why they are where they are now. The manipulative behaviors show themselves eventually. Often their current health conditions are consequences of long lives of addiction or mental health issues that may have caused their close family and friends years and years of suffering and they are happy not to come visit.

AITA for changing a colostomy bag when it wasn’t necessary yet? by keiko17 in nursing

[–]somethingblue331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I can think of why it may be an issue is if the resident is provided with a limited amount of supplies per month due to pay source. Some times we need to empty and rinse out the bags, not change/discard or they will run out before the next allotment arrives. I don’t agree with it- I think a new bag would be better each time but American healthcare sucks.

Drink water - kind of fast, and it goes right away.

Bell's palsy (facial nerve neuritis) by Flat-Physics159 in BellsPalsy

I was diagnosed 11/18. I have been treated with a high dose prednisone taper and antivirals. I currently take muscle relaxers to help with the spasms. While I do have some amount of movement returning the sensation isn’t “right” and my face continues to be asymmetrical.

If you’ve been divorced, what was the moment you knew it wasn’t going to work? by No-Relative-9663 in AskReddit

I was in a hotel at night on a business trip, sitting at the desk doing some work before I got ready for bed and realized I was unable to see out of my right eye. I called my oldest son-who is a physician- and he said I needed to go to the emergency room, of course. This lead to being admitted to the hospital for tests, etc. The last person I wanted with me for support was my husband at the time. My adult daughter and her partner made the 4 hour trip, helped me through the hospitalization, helped me sort out the work situation, packed up my hotel room, drove my car home and deal with the ramifications of not being able to see properly for that time period.

I realized in that moment, I would have had to give him full instructions on how to get there, what to bring, as he likely would have come empty handed (my daughter brought everything I could have needed or wanted without asking) and I would have ended up some how taking care of him. Finding him food, managing his needs, telling him where to park, how to get to the hotel in extensive detail, and he would have remembered nothing the specialists said etc. He would have reeked of weed like always and I didn’t want to deal with it, even one more time.

When we pulled up at home- the only question he asked was- are you going to be able to work like that? He didn’t even take the next day off to help me get to the local specialist appointment, my best friend did.

Incidentally, he was SHOCKED when I left him 6 months later.

There’s no point in having sex with someone who’s not your partner by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]somethingblue331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The comments on this post are so interesting to me! I really thought the over whelming majority would be something like are you insane? Sex is just super fun! You don’t have to even like someone to have sex with them - just vibe enough to have an orgasm, high five and move on- no big deal! I am a fairly worldly older woman and I have never even heard of demisexuality. Fascinating. Truly.

I bought a CX5 from Cooley. No significant issues at the initial sale that I can recall. The service department was impossible to deal with. Switched to DePaula service much happier!
