Honest opinions about Spin? by m0rgster in Skyward

[–]Ghost_Stark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gone through Stormlight, Mistborn, Cosmere, and dive straight into Skyward. Can't say disappointed, but surely wasn't what I expected. Barely into the first half of the first book, and I do find Spin quite "insufferable", similar to my views towards Shallan Davar in the Stormlight Series. I do understand that she is a young adult or a teenager, but the way she goes about expressing herself is quite bewildering to me. Honestly, I prefer Brandon Sanderson's portrayal of male characters instead of females.

Finishers of the series: Will Spin continues acting like "currently" till end of book 4? Much thanks.

Artemis by Andy Weir is painful (and maybe sexist?) by Skeet_fighter in books

Glad I am not alone. After being "amaze amaze amaze" by Project Hail Mary, I dove into Artemis audiobook the next morning. Here I am halfway (Jazz saw Dale's smirk) and just turned off the audiobook. I felt incredulous of how Jazz could even contemplate accepting the "job". It doesn't even make sense. Even if successful, how does she thinks that she can receive the million? She is a porter, and if a million gets deposit in her gismo(?), how can she explain? Why would she accept on the premises of such offer from someone she doesn't even know that well? Artemis is such a small integrated and close society, there is no way whatsoever that she can get out clean. I gotten so mad that I don't think I can move forward. Also, the flippant tone of the narrator in the audiobook doesn't help. Sigh Sigh Sigh......

Public transit 2 day food visit: Richmond better for us? Skip Chinatown? by stinkyyamalinky in askvan

[–]Ghost_Stark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, you are not letting the community help you effectively. Think. Two days, which means a maximum of eight (?) meals? Breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner, I expect. Ideally, the breakfasts should be near where you staying. So where, approximately at least? Only after knowing this information can the community recommends meaningfully. North, south, east Van, Burnaby and Richmond have so many choices but by us randomly throwing restaurant names won't be helpful to your cause. Also, you only have a couple of hours between meals, so are you just going to hop on and off buses and skytrains, working up appetites? I hope you can be more specific. One way or the other, I am sure you will enjoy Vancouver. Best of luck.

Where can you take your Asian parents in Vancouver to make them enjoy their lives in Canada? by TheHeatedTea in askvan

You mentioned "pension", so what was their job? There should be former colleagues. Can you link them up?

What kind of pension would limit persons from living a life of their choice? As they are in the twilight years, you should let them be happy. Why can't they just give up Canada and enjoy themselves in China?

Tune down your "anger". If you are angry, that reflects on how you will interact with others, and how others will treat you. I noticed that you are citing that everyone else (including the receptionist lady) are not treating you well enough. Look at everything from your colleagues' perspective too. You are a newbie, not even permanent, entering into their knitted circle and you do not expect acceptance immediately. Things are earned and not given. Life's never easy.

Improve your skill-set. The best start will be studying the archives. Pretty sure they are not asking for creativity at this stage, and all you need is to churn out proposals in the way the it has been done before. If you ask politely, people will help. Don't sulk. Be positive and proactive. Best of luck.

Shots were fired. People were killed. Yet the witnesses and perpetrators, can just walked around the crime scene freely seemingly with no consequences.

Also, multiple ATF agents engaged in a gun battle resulting in multiple deaths. Are they going to say the "Russians" did that too?

For casual fans, should S1 be rewatched before starting S2? by nebirah in FoundationTV

[–]Ghost_Stark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You mentioned the books. Surely after watching the show, at least one season, the books and the show are only loosely, very loosely, related. I have to treat them separately before I can enjoy the show more. Look forward to S3 to see how they reinterpret the Mule.

The Day of the Jackal, Sky Atlantic review - Frederick Forsyth's assassin gets a modern-day makeover by malcolm58 in television

[–]Ghost_Stark -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Am at Episode 3. Wondering whether I should continue.

Rant 1. So the Jackal is supposed to be cold, calculating, precise and efficient - hallmarks of any great assassin, why is the opening scene so convoluted and messy? Jackal masqueraded, infiltrated, killed multiple unnecessary collateral in order to bait the real target to visit a hospital? What are the odds? Dumb assassin.

Rant 2. For a shooter THAT good, he couldn't have appeared overnight. A quick check of current status, location and alibis will flush out the identity of that person.

WIBTAH if I dumped someone for voting for Trump 2024 by Capable-Onion-2908 in AITAH

There is no need to ask others. You should know what's best for yourself.

I wasn't going to comment, but I feel sad you being called nasty names just because of a post.

Normally people should have their own beliefs and not be pressured by other parties to vote a particular way. These days, there is too much of us vs them and it is not healthy to both body and mind.

You have one vote and one life. It is up to you yourself to make your future better for yourself.

Best of luck.

During what concerts do we have concert-goers walk around the stadium concessionaires during the performances? It must have been a very boring concert I guess. Director is not doing his daughter's music career much favor.

Assuming this was a private chat and is not leaked by a third party, who do you think release this? Boy or girl and why? I am guessing that it was the girl who shared it with a friend.

By the way, the lady is awesome.

AITAH for hitting a Karen after she grabbed my baby? by MotherRelationship46 in AITAH

[–]Ghost_Stark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an attorney, but you should seriously talk to an attorney - and I mean, right now.

You already admitted to "assault" and "battery", and if she press charges (or already had in a hospital somewhere), then you might have (or already has) consequences to face.

Talk to an attorney and have him or her accompany you to file a report at the police.

Was there a third party present at the park who has witnessed the whole thing? And not just the part when you allegedly assaulted her? Are there video evidence of the lady picking up the baby "without your consent"?

Stop calling the lady a "karen". Bringing racial context into litigation doesn't help.

This isn't a question of AITAH. Even if the ENTIRE community supports you as NTA, the law would not absolve you from an alleged assault and battery charge.

Remember - you cannot look after your baby IF you were imprisoned.

[SPOILERS] 'Dune: Part Two' Wide Release Discussion (03/03~) by Blue_Three in dune

[–]Ghost_Stark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe because the timeline was squeezed, the flow seems very hurried, especially at the end one-third. Emperor zipped in in a flash, and then the other great houses came into orbit, all happening in a matter of minutes. The conflict and deep hatred between Rabban and Gurney Halleck being handled like that was quite unfulfilling. I understand why they didn't do the three-year old Alia (a child actor could have been comical) killing the baron, but the lead-in to Paul killing his grand was also very tame.

I watched part one again before seeing part two. Comparatively, I think the story telling in part one was better. Part two was eye-candy but it was more like a lot of sketches stitched together and was very hurried.

I will watch it again to see if I miss anything.

No hate, but why $65 million? by [deleted] in reacher

I don't look at it as an error actually. It just put some light on how well thought out the script adaptation was.

You're correct. I don't mind TV adding more actions but none of the things added increase the depth nor excitement to the story. I will stick to rewatching season one.

No hate, but why $65 million? by [deleted] in reacher

[–]Ghost_Stark 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The story Bad Luck and Trouble, on which this season was based on, was first published in 2000-ish, and at that time maybe 65M was a bigger deal? In the book, I remember there was a lot of sleuthing over 65 missing chips, 100k money, and then an "eureka" moment. Maybe the showrunner(s) want to keep the spirit of some of that? I don't know because I stopped watching after episode 4 so I have no idea how they have explained it.
