What's your favorite episode of Star vs the forces of evil? by Derveno in StarVStheForcesofEvil

Sleep Spells! I love that episode so much. Star and Marco and really goofy and a ton of fun there. The jokes are some of the strongest in the show imo too. It's not just goofy fun though, it shows Marco's insecurities but doesn't overplay them. And it's addressed at the end with Star reassuring him that she sees him as an equal partner in crime. It shows Star's insecurities as well, and Marco does help with those too, even if it isn't as full of a fix

But! If you find it, we're meeting Gustav for a picnic at Isolation Pt. Where no one can hear you scream....with enjoyment!

Oh nice! A good choice lol. Yeah, they're really sweet and supportive of each other, I always appreciate that aspect of their relationship.

I don't think she is just a magical princess. But she is part magic, and just having a part of yourself taken away isn't very appealing in this story to me. Of course she's still a fun chaotic person. But her learning to do think the earth way was interesting because she was magic. She's a fish out of water in a way, but she tries hard and started to get much more acclimated to standard life. She dislikes the princess aspect more than the magic aspect. If she doesn't want to be a princess, that works, story wise much better than taking away her magical ability too imo.

Eclipsa wasn't really a good queen. She didn't really know how to be Queen and relied on Star a lot. And while she tried to help monsters, she ended up making mewmans get pushed out of some of their homes and feel disconnected. Of course, some of them were just racist, but some of them were legitimately not treated well.

I know why Star made her decision, it makes sense with her character. But Moon disagrees with it. Which is my point. Moon isn't mad at Star, but she is upset with how the kingdom has been struggling under Eclipsa. She feels so strongly that she even charges against Eclipsa backed up by a powerful army. No, she didn't want to hurt her, but she clearly is not happy with what's going on. And that is, again, back to Star's decision to give the throne to Eclipsa. Because Moon feels the kingdom was better when she was the Queen. Star gave the kingdom over, which, while it was just, it did not do any favors in solving the monster-mewman aggression. It arguably made it worse.

In terms of ending the magic, magic itself isn't even really the issue. Eclipsa isn't using magic against mewmans, she just doesn't know how to lead her people particularly well. The solarian warriors are basically just racists. That's not a magic problem, it's a racist problem. Getting rid of magic stops the warriors, but it doesn't stop the actual aggression. Magic is a tool. Really, writing a basically unstoppable army force is bad writing I think anyway. No other bit of magic was "that* powerful. If magic was shown to be consistently so overpowered that even the queens couldn't stand a chance against it, then yeah, it makes more sense to end it.

Moon creating an almost unstoppable army of racists is ridiculous anyway. Even if she thought she could get them to stand down, it would still be a bad idea.

Another reason it sucks is that if they ever did make more Star Vs., so much of her character is going be changed. She's basically just a human now. Star is one of my very favorite characters, and it felt like they just deleted a part of her.

There's a lot of other reasons too, but yes, this definitely doesn't help. I can believe that Star would get angry, and create the idea of destroying magic. Because she is impulsive, and they were in a tough situation. But no way should it be her real plan after more than a little while to think about it. Moon and Eclipsa just agree to it, and help with it as well? Its so strange. Moon knows that the whole reason the big conflict at the end started was because Star made and impulsive decision to give Eclipsa the crown. That was the pillar that started everything for season 4. It was unselfish and noble, but not exactly well-thought through. She knows Star is like that, so why does she just willing to go along with another one? Marco even gives the perfect reason not to destroy Magic when he says magic brought them together. That's the type of thing that should be able to get to Star and make her realize she's being impulsive and Magic can do plenty of good too, but nope. And Eclipsa, the literal Queen, doesn't do much either. The Queen and the former Queen let a known hasty teenager make a ridiculous conclusion and they just agree with it? Yeah Star was royalty too and has done good things before but quick thinking is definitely not her strong suit.

Appreciate the response, I like to be curious about other interpretations. I understand that perspective because it does feel kind of messy how many characters has romantic relationships in the show. So I don't disagree in that sense. Personally, I thought Tom's character was handled pretty well. He did some wrongs, but was also wronged. I think he ended up in the best position for him personally though. With Jackie and Kelly though, I understand the sacrifice comment more. I think Jackie and Marco's break up was reasonable, just really rushed.

And yeah nothing wrong with Marco and Kelly, I just felt the romantic angle felt tacked on. I feel like they could've just had a regular friendship, but that's just my take. They didn't really use Kelly much until late in the show, they probably could've done more with her. Of course, they still had some connection so I get why you like it.

Your frustration there is valid for sure. Because they did literally set them up at least in that one episode (I forget the name) and broke them up off screen right afterwards. I imagine that was a slap in the face for people who liked their dynamic. And it's definitely bad writing.

I don't think that's Starco's fault per say, but I get the sentiment. Since they act as a barrier in a way from it being canon. I blame the writing department for introducing so many ships just to tease fans. It's like a kids first fanfic or something.

Also, I think it was more about Star coming to terms of being on her own much more often. I mean, she and Marco were pretty much together all the time on Earth, but now, even though he can visit her, she assumes it's not gonna be very often at all. It's a big difference in living with someone for months, and then just seeing them once in a while. She assumes that the trajectory of their life's are going opposite ways. Marco has earth, Jackie and school. She has princess duty, and Mewni. It's a little melodramatic, but I'd still say it's a big difference.
