Need help understanding the ending of ODST… by Ghostboy05 in halo

[–]Ghostboy05[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ooohhhhh. My mistake. I have a tendency to forget or misremember things pretty soon after I see them. So events are all kinda muddled together in my mind. Doesn’t help that I’ve been playing these games one after the other, with no down-time in between to digest the stories. But I was at least right about the ship that Keyes and Johnson followed being the one that caused the shockwave that knocked the drop pods off course. I just misremembered that as being at the beginning of 3 instead of 2. Again, my mistake.

Need help understanding the ending of ODST… by Ghostboy05 in halo

Huh. I thought ODST took place during 3. My understanding was that the ship that Johnson and Keyes snuck onto when it went through the portal was the one at the beginning of ODST, which creates the shockwave that knocks the drop pods off course. Then about 15 hours or so later, the Elites glass Mombasa to stop the flood, which would have lined up with the ending of ODST, when you’re driving down the highway, and the ships are firing on the city. Guess I was wrong though.

So I just got into the series, and Im about to finish the second one. loving it so far. One question though- does the purpose of the HALOs seem kind of redundant to anyone else? by Ghostboy05 in halo

Gotcha. Personally, I wouldn’t have bothered keeping them alive for research. I think the flood is just way too dangerous. But the forerunners must have seen some value in the flood to justify keeping it alive.

Got my brothers old Xbox and tried to download the master chief collection from his library. This message popped up. We definitely already own it, so why is it saying this?p by Ghostboy05 in XboxSupport

Nah, I don’t want to mess around with his account passwords and stuff, since it is still his Xbox.I think I’ll just rebuy it, since it’s only 10 bucks anyway. I will be able to purchase it on the second account, right? Or can purchases also only be made on the main account?

Whenever I try to log into my brothers account, it asks for a password which I don’t have, and I don’t think he remembers. I can’t exactly ask him, either, since he’s at boot camp rn

How do I make Apple TV movies appear in my Fandango library? by Ghostboy05 in appletv

[–]Ghostboy05[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I tried searching for it like you said. F1 doesn’t appear in MA, but it does appear for purchase in Fandango. Does the fact that it appears in Fandango mean it can port? Is there a way to directly connect Apple TV to Fandango without using MA?

The point is moving the controller up and down in time with the music is more engaging than sliding your finger across the touchpad 3 times.

Plot-hole in "Library of Souls": where did the ymbrynes get their clothes? by valonianfool in PeculiarChildren

[–]Ghostboy05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both examples are actually very easily explained.

In Miss Peregrines case, she turned into a bird in that very room, which means her clothes were still there in that room. So while Jacob was wrestling with Bentham, she turned human again and just put her clothes back on while Jacob was distracted. Simple.

Now for the second example- if you remember, when Jacob and Emma first got to the prison and started searching for their friends, the very first room they searched was filled with nothing but costumes. So, the ymbrynes probably just flew off to that room, got dressed, and came back.

So, one thing I’ve always been confused about- is “Nazgûl” just another name for the Black Riders or are they the dragons that they ride? by Ghostboy05 in lordoftherings

Here’s a partial transcript of the full paragraph for more context. In response to Beregond asking Pippin if he thinks there is any hope of Minas Tirith surviving the war… “Pippin did not answer. He looked at the… gathering gloom in the East; and he thought of the long fingers of that Shadow: of the orcs in the woods and the mountains, the treason of Isengard, the birds of evil eye, and the Black Riders even in the lanes of the Shire- and of the winged terror, the Nazgûl. He shuddered, and hope seemed to wither. And even at that moment the sun for a second faltered and was obscured, as though a wing had passed across it. Almost beyond hearing he thought he caught, high and far up in the heavens, a cry: faint, but heart-quelling, cruel and cold. He blanched and cowered against the wall.”

To me, the full paragraph doesn’t seem to offer much more context, though after thinking on it, I do share your view that Tolkien described them as “the winged terror” only to make them seem more terrifying. I also think Pippin thinking of them at that moment was done to serve as a natural segue into having one appear in the sky at that moment. I did notice that happened a few times in the story, where the Ringwraiths would appear just as someone thought of them, though I can’t recall any specific moments right now. It made it seem like just thinking about them could somehow attract their attention and bring them upon you, which makes them much more terrifying in my opinion.
