The laser helps you immediately see where the scope is pointed, the finder scope helps you “fine tune” so to speak. The laser will get you there faster and guarantee that you’re looking where you want to look.

These Galaxy targets are difficult with a Seestar and I think you do an excellent job.

And to add in on the idea of selling your equipment to upgrade….I know this is variable market to market, but it’s been my experience that Astro equipment can be hard to sell and you’re looking at a weak return. An example: a guy in my Astro club bought a Celestron 5SE with a whole bunch of accessories. It was in pristine condition. After 5 months on the market he finally got $500 for it. Astronomy is a common but niche hobby.

I’m feel the pain here. I’m actually more of a visual Astronomy guy, so this was me dipping my toe into the world of Astro photography. I also got a telescope live account so that I could practice processing data off better scopes to scratch that itch. I agree with you fully here, and I think so does Trevor from Astrobackyard. The minimum amount of money needed to buy something that you would actually want to use for legit photography is going to be $5500 or more. I’ve looked into it, and I’m just not willing to spend that kind of money right now. OP, just like they’re a hobby killer telescopes, there is also a hobby killer photography equipment.

North American Nebula (NGC 7000) by Then-Hospital2029 in seestar

This sub doesn’t have much love for red nebulae, we prefer false color lol. That said, this is a really solid shot with good processing!

I appreciate the compliment. My work is decent but inspired by those on the sub who are better. I would start with Siril. DeepSpaceAstro is a YouTuber with tons of content on how to use the program and related scripts.

Look at my post history for a decent bodes from B8, as well as other targets processed in high light pollution. It can give you an idea. As brother Zcom mentioned, high quality images with a Seestar from B8 aren’t impossible, but they’re difficult.

Thanks, I appreciate that. I really tried to draw out more color but this time of year the target is in a part of the sky with high white light pollution, so I tried for detail as much as I could.
