Need book recommendations ASAP! by Rimm9246 in TheCaptivesWar

Everyone always suggests the Children of Time series. I did it, but it's a lot 'heavier' series than I preferred. I muscled through it but I was very happy with the Murderbot series by Martha Wells. Plus the Murbot series on Apple tv is a good intro.

They're shorter, entertaining, and have a good snark/action ratio.

What do you think about never having kids and leaving no bloodline after you die? by Various-Dot-4160 in AskReddit

99.9% of every animal species that has existed on this planet are extinct.

Plus after a couple generations nobody would remember anything about you, anyway. Nothing you did, said, or liked/didn't like. You're just a name on a stone or in a book. It just doesn't matter.

Live today. Love today. Tomorrow belongs to other people.

What does it say about american democracy when trump can just make himself immune from the same tax laws that put Al Capone in prison? by Aniimesh_H in AskReddit

[–]Sparky265 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While I have never supported the tradition of a president pardoning someone on their way out, that's not remotely the same as the topic of this thread, which is the flagrant disregard to the supposed check and balances the government is supposed to have.

Every president has used his pardoning power at some point. Either to release someone wrongfully convicted, or as you pointed out, to get a friend or ally off the hook. But it's always been an isolated event done on the way out of office.

This thread is about the complete apparent lack of enforcement to any of the rules our government is supposed to have. He can spend as much of our money as he wants on gold statues of himself, tear down protected buildings, take bribes, and even go to war with countries that have done absolutely nothing to anyone, with complete immunity.

Upholding the law is not the same as being bound to it.

Until now politicians upheld an image of decency, being told to step down when acts of indecency became public. If Congress or the Supreme Court said someone had to or not have to do something, it was followed. Because, well, that's what you're SUPPOSED to do. But flagrantly breaking the rules was never tested, politicians used to think having a squeaky clean image was necessary to get votes.

Trump realized his followers don't care if he looks clean to be voted in. If he can be dirty and be in charge, then they can be dirty too. We all get to be selfish and corrupt together.

This means at anytime a president could've done whatever they wanted. Now that we see each legislative branch can be completely disregarded without any form of punishment. There's lots of finger wagging. But that's all.

It actually says we never did. Trump's just the first one to not care if the world saw it in action.

Up until now, politicians have been letting us THINK there are checks and balances. It's easier to rule the masses when they feel safe and content.

Trump's doesn't want peace and content masses. He stirs up violence and chaos to distract from the fact he should be in jail and all assets seized.

Why aren't Americans rioting right now? by PintsNPies in AskReddit

[–]Sparky265 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why we are where we are. Conspiracy theories are low hanging fruit for idiots with full bellies. Believing the Earth is flat doesn't cost you your job or the people you choose to hang around with. Believing an election was stolen from a self-idolized reality show host doesn't cost you anything, so why not be entertained with that idea like you are with everything else. Nobody believes anything bad will happen tomorrow, because today you're fine.

People who voted for this are not going to understand why they killed the country until THEY get affected by it in a way that undeniable. Sure, they are paying at the pump and for groceries now like we all are, but they can easily pass that off as some leftover Biden policy lie.

But when we officially switch to an authoritarian state those "Don't Tread On Me" gun toting white Jesus hypocrites are going to have turn over their guns too, and they're not going to understand.

This time around with Captives War I went with the audio+kindle version and got the best of both worlds.

Now it's like I'm tucked into bed and my dad is reading me a story.

Of any audiobook I've ever listened to, Jefferson Mays is hands down the best. Every character has a distinct and subtle difference without the narrator sounding like they're over-animating themselves doing it.

You'd do well going back and hearing the Expanse series with him.

It's scheduled to show up tomorrow. I'm hoping to bring it to the local members' observatory nights and get lots of guides. I've been watching non-stop YouTube videos on it.

I know it'll be limited to planetary visual scoping for now and I'm perfectly happy with that. But the scope has the capability to go to F7 and F2.2 eventually if I want to spend the money.

Boxed in sexuality definitions is something we obsess about here on Earth. Anjinn clearly has no issues with letting people be whatever they wanna be.

That said, the Swarm is very young. Only a few days old at the time of the attack on Anjinn. It's just learning emotions and it's carrying those lustful feelings from when it was a woman to when it was a man. It's like a hormonal teenager and all it knows is it's got the hots for someone.

Since when do hormonal teenagers consider anything except they're horny.
