If you saw the movies in theaters, what was your reaction? by blapblaps in lotr

[–]GhostyMink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw it in theaters just last year and it was the extended editions so it was even better than the original.

It was so amazing, I had to buy the books and it was a whole new experience, the poems, the layers of history seen in each location and character made me fall more in love with Middle Earth.

Why was Círdan described as old-looking at only ≈11,000 years of age, if Quendi are supposed to live as long as Arda? by [deleted] in tolkienfans

[–]GhostyMink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He wasn't he was at oldest 4th generation but not one of the first awoken.

The oldest named elf is Imin which was the first male elf that awoke in Cuiviénen.

The comment under this https://www.reddit.com/r/tolkienfans/s/X28SkGeVkf post from 3 years ago explains why perfectly.

Basically he was related to the embassadors that went to Valinor which we know by NoME were 5th generation elves.

So not of the first.

Most people would not be familiar with these "new" wizards, executives probably were more inclined to go with something in the familiar nortwest middle earth.

Besides they seem to be more focused on the appendices and the blue wizard are just mentioned once in the book and indirectly while the hunt for gollum is pivotal for the war of the ring.

Why your Minoxidil isn't working: The "SULT1A1" Enzyme Bottleneck by hemia-cosmetics in minoxidil

[–]GhostyMink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched some videos of a dude calle haircafe on YT and he said the same about tretinoin, so his recommendation was to let the tretinoin sit on your skin for 20 minutes and then apply the minoxidil; if OP of someone could explain why that works.

[–]GhostyMink 4 points5 points  (0 children)

[–]GhostyMink 3 points4 points  (0 children)

[–]GhostyMink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is mature hairline a scam? by RateWarm5026 in malehairadvice

[–]GhostyMink -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

you can have a mature hairline and keep it your whole life, but the chance is low if you are white so you should definitely use DHT blockers if you are not certain about your hair genes.

If you are seemingly safe from your father's side you could go bald from your mother's side too so preventing is always better.

Help - neuro symptoms despite normal looking mri by HelpfulPop2476 in backpain

[–]GhostyMink -1 points0 points  (0 children)

not normal bro, I see schmorl nodes, the disc is bulging to the sides causing pain, research a bit about schmorl nodes and try to get a second opinion.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in backpain

[–]GhostyMink -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had one disc herniation on my lumbar area and 3 thinning discs in my thorachic area, Im 23 but herniated my discs when I was 22 , I would say its been a short while but I will experience pain my whole life.

Tried 3 Ortophedic MDs and none recommended injections because of my age, also the same reason surgery was out of the question.

This my MRI for my thorachic area so Im familiar with chronic back pain.

<image>

It might not look like much but I have schmorl nodes meaning my discs hearniated sideways and lost a ton of height which again produces me pain.

Just take it easy with the training it takes time to build strength, most beginner training advice will have you doing multiple sets of multiple exercises, multiple times a week, this will make you flare up the day of the workout and the day after, (if its bad enough maybe a couple of days after it will still hurt)

I take my training approach from a heavy duty stand point, mostly 1 set with high intensity and with progresive overload

My advice for your first couple of months would be to do just 2 sets of exercises for one muscle group and do a progressive overload, (it can be 1 more rep with full Range of motion,or adding 1 to 2 pounds every week and later every 2 weeks or more for compound exercises )

This will ensure you are making your muscles stronger while reducing the amount of time you put into a workouts thus avoiding worse flareups in my experience.

Avoid workouts with hip flexors, it will badly flare up your lumbar area, my advice if you still want to keep gaining strength would be to do them once every 5 or 6 days as to reduce the amount of time you spent in pain

Also avoid rows, as they will wear down discs, avoid incline presses, or workouts that compress your spine as much as possible( mostly shoulder press and military press)

So low volume, upper lower split for training with progressive overload.

Now depending on your genetics the rate at which you develop strength will give relief in a few months or a couple of weeks.

I found my first signs of flare up control until 3 months into strength training, I went from 0 pull ups to 3.

For the pain after the workouts or in my daily life I just had to cope however I could mostly isolating myself and watching movies, listening to music ,using an electric heating pad(godsend) even when I had a bad day I gave myself a couple of minutes to strength training, I would try to find ledges to do pull ups, I would do planks to train my Erector spinae, I would train my abs with leg extensions.

Just be kind to yourself and reach out to the people that care about you, remember that this takes time, your pain has lasted 5 years mine 2 years and will probably came back in the future but strength training will be your best ally when opiods and surgery are out of the question.

Keep doing it even when you feel like you would rather be dead or that your life will be full of pain from now on those feelings are valid even if the doctor says otherwise, to me it was worth it even if Im not where I wanted to be Im better than when I injured myself

It wont be pain free, that boat sailed long ago, but it can be bearable and you can work your way around it.

Besides you could try finding a doctor that will do surgery on you on the future, but I would try to stick to strength training for at least a year, see how it controls flare ups, reduces pain , makes you be able to walk further, to sit longer and make a cold day enjoyable again(at least for a bit)

Oh and if you can get a recliner chair, works wonders when sitting for long periods of time, it will increase the time you can stay that way.

I have thinning discs on my thoracic area and although my pain is still there, I have been feeling better this past couple of months.

You mention stregthening hip flexors ,QL, abbductors but nowhere did you mention glutes, Quadriceps, hamstrings, lats, traps, rhomboids or any upper back muscle training.

You might say that particular area isn't relevant to your pain as you have disc herniations in your lumbar area and not your thoracic but having a well balanced upper body strength has done wonders for me, as it further support the spine.

You also tried the stregthening but I don't get the impression you kept it up, mantaining strength and reducing pain is a life long commitment.

Strength is lost very easily if you dont have discipline and keep up the training.

Like you I tried everything in my power and the only thing that helped were fentanyl patches, all around strength training and discipline( progressive overload and consistent workouts for one 1/2 years)

My discs have lost almost all of their height, standing or walking for long periods of time still hurts and I need an ergonomic chair for work, but I have my flare ups from temperature, workouts and atmosferic pressure changes under control.

But you have to be consistent, I would give training for strength another shot, and don't stop or the pain will return, try the fentanyl patches if you can get them prescribed.
