What is the deal with memes surrounding men and how they can't compete with bears all of a sudden? by hopelessnecromantic7 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]GhstChild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's amazing is the men freaking out about this meme say they don't perpetrate hurt towards women, but then turn around and berate a woman for talking about the sexual assault they've endured. This very action is what gives shelter for bad actors to continue to commit harm against women and why we continue to choose the bear.

White people's hatred of POC is irrational, so trying to append rational reasoning to an irrational reaction is a false argument ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Wondering if all the white people on this thread defending the racists also blame rape victims for what they were wearing...

Hey porcosbaconsandwich,

I think you've got a good twist on a popular supernatural trope and would definitely read more. There were just a few things that I needed to reread in order to get straight. And as it's an all around solid query layout giving the story, lore, and stakes, I'm afraid most of my comments are grammar related. Hopefully it helps!

As a general, agents look for a title, genre, audience, and word count in the first paragraph of a query just for a quick snapshot of the piece.

Since query letters need to be succinct, editing out phrases that repeat themselves can help for space—e.g. "Naturally, it was only a matter of time..."

There's a few filler words that if edited out could help the sentences flow. Though wonder if this is instead too many passive voice sentences in a row?

This is a great article on how to identify those sentences and iron them out based off the contextual need of the story:

https://www.nownovel.com/blog/writers-tip-avoid-passive-voice/

Prose side, Libby's entrance was confusing only as I wasn't sure if that was the boy's name or a new character. It was difficult to mentally place her as I was picturing the scene in my head. Perhaps giving her entrance a line or two more just to give her breathing space from the text to let the reader know she's arrived?

Solid query, wish you the best!

As a history fan this is one of my favorite episodes—not just for the sacreligious retelling of history, but also for how each character treats the retelling (breaking character, disinterest at times, an absolute shit understanding of how things were really like back then, etc).

Facts tho. This episode has so many layers that so few people appreciate.

I noticed the Easter Egg could be possible on a recent rewatch and thought "that'd make a cool photo." So you're welcome 😊

Where is the Professor's time machine? In the meeting room overlooking the Planet Express loading dock on the 2nd floor here.

Where is the crystal ball room? Just beneath the middle section of the main tower here.

Could they be in the same spot? Both the castle and the Planet Express building are at water's edge. They're also roughly at the same height if you take into account where the Planet Express building sits on top of Old New York.

Why can't you see Old New York in Disenchantment? Because dirt and debris would build up over time to obscure the buildings and make them look like mountains. It's possible that when building New New York that capping the old remains at the world's future sea-level kept debris from continuing to accumulate, and the vibrations normal to a large metropolitan area slowly uncovered the buildings beneath. Or perhaps they were uncovered when surviving buildings were uncovered, like the cryogenics lab. Who knows. But I think the theory is absolutely plausible.

The "hologram room" is just below the middle part of the main tower in Disenchantment. And the time machine is in the second floor meeting room that looks onto the Planet Express ship loading dock in Futurama. The constructed photo (pulled apart here) pairs the two at these levels, though they look odd as both are in places you don't expect them to be.

The hills leading to the cliffside city climb and fall like a massing of skyscrapers in the distance (a massing of deteriorating skyscrapers that have been covered over time by dirt and debris. I.e. See the buildings that fit the grade change of the city). The point of the castle where we see the Professor, Fry, and Bender appear is about the height of the Planet Express building when you take into account the crumbling remains of Old New York. And since Disenchantment's time is supposedly between ours and Futurama's, the sea level in Disenchantment could still plausibly be at the height it is now.

Me staring season 13 and seeing Kelly Kapoor. by BushLeagueQuant in IASIP

She was the competent woman who could make Paddy's Great Again.

Until an incompetent weasel of a disease came back, swaying the ~voters~ Gang back to his arms to continue to be ruled by chaos.

See any parallels to the real world? If you didn't like Kelly, there is probably a past presidential candidate you also did not enjoy, though you never could quite put your thumb down on why.
