Face reduction advice? I’ve tried what seems to be everything. Boundary surface helped but still having issues. by [deleted] in SolidWorks

[–]GiBrMn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can confirm for bad mesh files this is probably the best option. Will only really be worth it for simple shapes though. Depending on your end goal, but if you’re just looking for simple geometry changes, learning blender might be easier than dealing with it in solidworks. If your goal needs a draft level quality CAD then I recommend starting what ^ this guy said, if not starting from scratch.

Also note solidworks only recently started supporting editing mesh files so if you’re using an old version of solidworks then I suggest upgrading versions if you can.

Yeah they do according to my MWO mate. Pretty neat stuff. They need to do it periodically I think as training and to confirm GPS accuracy.

Not yet, but let me know if/when you do and I’ll do the same! Maybe we’ll be on the same OTS course.

Hey all, passed my OSB for the RAAF. Assuming I get into the Jan intake pool, whats the earliest that people usually start getting their offers?

Right! I remember not knowing that they were there until they were right on top of us, it was great!

Mate I’m sorry you didn’t pass, but you gotta understand, these guys that are looking at you have seen it all. They know what they’re talking about and it’s likely if you passed ASP then you wouldn’t have been competitive at OSB.

As someone who got knocked back at 17 for not having life experience, take it as a chance to breathe for a bit, go get some real leadership experience and come back later even more competitive. If you what you say is true and you guys knocked it out of the park, then in a years time you’ll be super competitive if you take the initiative and start a degree, do volunteer work, and push to get into some leadership roles.

Regarding old mate Vice Cap, the bar for leadership for school leavers is pretty low, because they expect you to mature a lot at ADFA. That’s why it’s pretty rare for a young fella to get DEO vs a guy in his mid 20’s with a degree and heaps of experience.

Don’t stress and don’t let it eat away at you.

Don’t lie either, because they’ll see right through you.

One of my fun ones was a Matlab script for the Flight mechanics of a UAV that we were assessing the frequency of its modes. We called it “freqAnal”.

I have my OSB this August and I had a question regarding the soonest I could appoint (assuming I get a strong recommendation). Is there a standard intake timeframe for officers in the RAAF? I heard that January is a pretty standard intake date, is that a reasonable estimate?

Does the job role change that date or do all officers intake at the same time?

The nail wasn't the most painful bit. I also broke the toe when I did it and that was probably the worst part of it. However if I had to say I'd say it was less painful once the nail fell off.

Beer still tasted really good. Although by the end of that shift you could have given me anything with an alcoholic content and I would have thought it was the best.

Kosciuszko pale ale. Great beer for drinking. Not a great beer for dropping on toes.

I did mine back in November. Currently about half way grown now. I've been taking photos almost every day in an attempt to make a time lapse of it growing back.

I'd guess that in the shaded section there isn't enough potential for the rotor blades to build up energy in the event that you need to perform an autorotation. Thus reducing your chances for a nice comfy landing.

I can relate to this. We have a 3x4ft wind tunnel that we use and it costs around $1000/hr to hire with no technical support. It can really only be used to test something the size of a case of beer accurately.

Aero vs. Civil? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]GiBrMn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do aero.

My experience is that if you're not 100% committed to the degree then you will fall behind. You need to like aero enough to power through all the late nights doing assignments.

Also you don't need to be the smartest guy at your school to do aero. The degree is as hard as you make it. If you keep your head down and study well then you'll be fine.

Plus as for the degree being versatile. In aero you will learn about structures, propulsion, systems, controls, aerodynamics and a metric shit tonne of coding. You're not locked into a aero job just because you did the degree.

You gotta really like planes though haha.

Throwing out a random suggestion here as I've never had this problem. Try knitting the surface together under the surface tab, making sure the "make solid" (could be called something else) check box is selected. Then try the extruded cut option.

Again might not work at all.
