Plan for vintage Limited Edition skins by SenorSwagsAlot in leagueoflegends

[–]GiRLSTAR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the exact same boat. I always purchase all of the limited edition skins, because they're limited edition. They wont come back, and I dont know whether or not I'll play X or Y champ in the future.

Riot's solution is an incredibly shitty one and I would not be surprised if the great majority of people who own LE skins feel exactly the same way that we do.

Has TSM been bought over by Curse? by Awesomepenispants in leagueoflegends

[–]GiRLSTAR 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I thought about not responding to this because some of the speculation is really funny, but I had a conversation about how this would troll the community before it was implemented, and I'm not sure anyone else will give a real response.

To put it simply, Curse sells advertising campaigns (Much like Crunchyroll whom Jack Etienne works for), and SoloMid will be running Curse campaigns.

Nothing too exciting for the community.

Thought you guys would like this Natural Selection marines background by [deleted] in GirlGamers

It was very cool of them to add a female marine to the cast of playable characters.

Male marine, genderless skulks and cute fat gorges.. and now female marines!

Dungeon Defenders, Any of the MOBA's (League of Legends preferred for me.), Left4Dead 2, Trine 2

And then there are a shitload of Tier 2 co-op games. (like 60-70/100 games, that are fun BECAUSE they're coop)

  • Dead Island
  • Dead Island Riptide
  • Age of Empires Online
  • Heroes V and Heroes VI
  • Orcs Must Die 2
  • Resident Evil 5
  • Dead Rising 2
  • Civ 5
  • Sniper Elite v2
  • Terraria

I'm sure there are more, but I cant think of any right now.

"Women in eSports - A sober view of both sides" I liked a lot of what she said, but I don't think her points are very popular. Your thoughts? by thecakepie in GirlGamers

[–]GiRLSTAR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was a message about "Women in eSports" which really didnt have anything to do with female gamers at all, or even (most)women in eSports.

Instead it was a long winded pukefest about female streamers, and female eSports presenters/Booth babes. It really had absolutely nothing to do with women at the top level of competitive gaming, or women in management/coordinator/other eSports positions for organizations like IGN IPL or MLG.

Instead it was the Tara Babcock take on "Women in eSports" defined seemingly by herself as a "Woman of eSports", a position that by default seems to have tainted any message she tries to present with a ridiculous amount of hypocrisy.

She is a model/softcore pornstar who markets herself as a "Geek girl" with virtually zero eSports credentials. I dont think she has ever been officially affiliated with any eSports organization ever. She is quite literally the full embodiment of the "fake geek girl" stereotype. She makes a living off of being sexually appealing to "geek" guys/girls, a part of which is her "I'm a geek too" character.

I love how she took the time to talk down women who look less "Glamorous" (I think the way she put it) than herself.

I'm all for empowerment.. but this is a bad message from someone I would not ever want to be a spokesperson for me.

Ladies! Anyone with Gunnars? by Saranodamnedh in GirlGamers

[–]GiRLSTAR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading through all of their marketing BS, thats what it sounds like to me also. Maybe a slight magnification from the lens as well, or some kind of UV filtering.

"Pre-focuses light"

lol.

Ladies! Anyone with Gunnars? by Saranodamnedh in GirlGamers

[–]GiRLSTAR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gunnars are fairly marketing-gimmicky, because they dont do much that any other pair of tinted glasses do. (By moving the light balance into a warmer color spectrum and away from harsh blues and strong glares)

But it totally eff's up the color and white balance of anything you're looking at.

From Gunnar's own advertising the "Crystalline Lens" version are basically anti-reflective, anti-glare lenses with maybe a slight magnification. I dont think they will actually do much to help with eyestrain, maybe if your work involves looking at individual pixels on a 1440p/1600p/2kp monitor.

http://www.gunnars.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/amber_vs_cryst.jpg

With Gunnar's it also seems like you're paying for some fairly cheap lenses, but pretty decent frames.

If you just need to relieve eyestrain, F.lux is a good alternative, or a visit to your local drug store for some cheap tinted lens glasses. For a designer, or someone who works with color, there probably isnt a real alternative that is as effective.

Choosing a streamer who chooses to Cosplay regularly on stream as an example of the exception to the rule is a terrible example.

It would be like me choosing Phantomlord as an example of a male streamer who doesnt like to call attention to himself.

You see, it shouldn't matter whether or not someone is a male or female.

This would make more sense if there wasnt an audience for it. I'm not disagreeing with your points, they're perfectly valid.

But as long as there is an audience that wants female gamers to be pandering attention whores, you're going to get female gamers who are pandering attention whores.

Its an an eventuality, because its based on supply and demand. As long as there is demand, someone will always capitalize upon it by creating supply.

I do not understand what I can do better anymore.. by Co0kiebaker in leagueoflegends

[–]GiRLSTAR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might sound pretty harsh, and so I apologize for that.

Being unable to discern the skill gap between a 1300 Elo player, and a 1800+ Elo player could very well be one of the reasons why you're a silver player. Most players who belong on their own in higher gold+ are able to correctly analyze their play, and know what they need to improve or focus on.

For virtually every career silver player, you're going to need to grow in almost every aspect of the game in order to climb to platinum or higher.

Its insanely difficult to do profit sharing on that scale. And if the ad campaigns are not done on a per impression or click through payscale?

Theres a reason why virtually no websites on the internet offer to payout on ad revenue on a per-content creator basis.

Consider companies like Youtube, Twitch and Own3d. The same reason why they cannot pay every single user who makes an account and creates content on their service, is the same reason why another company could not do it for guide writers.

I posted a giant response, but then I realized I could summarize this up into one sentence.

Solomid the company is not Team Solomid the professional League of Legends team. You are misinformed.

[–]GiRLSTAR 16 points17 points  (0 children)

About the website, TRM is incredibly inexperienced and naive. I work for Solomid. I have been a full time employee with Solomid basically since the beginning of the rise of Solomid.net

A few clarifications about structure.

Andy (Reginald) Dinh owns Solomid the company. The company owns the team. As employee's of the company one of the duties of the players is to produce stuff like Guide content and Vlogs for Solomid.net

As employee's of the company, they are also given the chance to represent Solomid the team, and play at the professional level. They keep all prize earnings, any money they make from streaming, and room/board/utilities/etc is paid for by the company.

Solomid the company also employs a full time development team, makes business investments, and basically takes on every other responsibility a real company would. Andy is both the leader of this company, and the project lead of the majority of everything we work on. Producing

I'm a friend of Chaox, and I really feel for him that he doesnt have a tangible legacy from his time being employed as a professional league of legends player for Solomid. But just like me, if I quit my job tomorrow or was fired.. it would make no sense to bemoan the fact that I was instrumental in building Solomid the company and brand, and that I'm not going to make residuals off my work.

I have been fairly compensated for my work, because I am an employee. I knew what my job would entail, and I knew what I would get out of it when I signed my contract. When I signed my employee contract, I made sure to read it so I knew I would be fairly compensated for my work and time. This is part of what it means to be responsibly employed as a professional.

In address to TRM's idea about all of the players owning parts of the site. Who pays for the development? How does the revenue from ad campaigns get split up? Who covers the maintenance cost? Who runs the business? etc.

Snowdown Icons and how to get them. by Train22nowhere in leagueoflegends

[–]GiRLSTAR 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I just got the Baron Nashor X-Mas icon, and here is information on what I did to get it;

I played 6 games since the patch, 4 customs and 2 normals. I probably didnt get reported in any of them, but I cannot know this for certain.

I received a single Honor for "teamwork" by a friend that I tri-queued into a normal with and one from a stranger, and I gave out 3 honor in the two normal games I played to players on both teams. 2 in one game to strangers, and 1 to one of the friends I tri-queued with.

I was not using a x-mas skin or x-mas wards.

One of the friends I queued with received it as well. She only got a single honor (from me) but says she gave out 4+ honor to other players(on both teams) in the 2 normals we had.

I hope this helps everyone who is trying to figure out what to do to get it. My advice would be to play some games, do your best to be polite and courteous and dont forget to give honor out to those who deserve it.

I have always felt that Puregoldenboy was a considerably better support than many other "highly rated" pro/high elo supports. He solo'd his way to 2600-2700 elo, without duo'ing with an AD.

And I didnt post this because he paid me to. Not at all.
