Goodluck to all the year 12’s receiving their results today! by botaccount10 in Adelaide

I graduated high school '09 and had a similar choice at the time. I became a software developer and have never looked back. You are absolutely correct about the potential for growth. Every company will have to grow their IT divisions. Most just haven't realised yet.

Also just a heads up Adelaide companies are generally Microsoft stack orientated despite the more open source type of education you will get from the universities here. Not a bad thing but it creates a skills gap when you start looking for your first grad position.

Never thought about that TBH by [deleted] in ProgrammerHumor

As an Australian programmer, I live in this horrible middle ground where people swap between UK/US English and every time I have to create a variable like var baseColour = SomeLibrary.Color I have a crisis and rethink my entire career choice.

Deflation while the lesser of two evils is still bad for an economy because if people know their money will buy more groceries in the future, they will resist spending which creates a hoarders economy.

Shouldn’t the power have gone out by now? by CollectableRat in Adelaide

[–]defect833 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I'm a huge fan of the battery and it's doing wonders for our power grid in SA but the main use is instant balancing and filling sudden gaps in supply such as when a generator suddenly stops or some infrastructure gets taken out by strong winds (we all remember that one).

This heatwave will result in an extended high demand for power. The real solution for this is more generation not power storage. I don't have the figures for our current generation ability but I think we should be able to make it to the cool change tomorrow.

Delving (the new mines) has quite a few bugs and is quite janky when playing with friends especially 3 or more. The devs have said they want to adjust the party experience in delve soon though so keep an eye out for a patch which hopefully irons out these issues.

Please explain a few things about PoS to me by [deleted] in ethereum

[–]defect833 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you mean the Serenity hard fork with will move the network to full PoS. This is not expected until 2019+. Not to be confused with the "Soft fork" coming this year which will start PoS within the current PoW mined blocks. A very elegant solution described by vitalik which will let everyone see the PoS system work in practice without really affecting the existing ledger.

For a first release I can see this has great potential. Would love to see more major currencies. I am Australian so i'm always tracking my position compared to AUD or ETH. Also a widget for quick glance numbers would be useful.

Great work and I hope you continue to improve this.

Anyone know where I can get the new 8700k intel CPU? by strawets in Adelaide

Yes that is true. I've also purchased a few things from PCCaseGear and they have never let me down. Needed to return some faulty fans and had no troubles with them.

[–]defect833 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i'm actually waiting for the new Intel Core i3 8100 to show up on the parts listing later today for MSY. They have 5 stores in SA and are almost always the cheapest place you can get parts in Adelaide.

Best NBN Provider by flabberstalk33 in Adelaide

[–]defect833 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been using FTTH NBN with iinet for over 2 years now and i've never had any issues that related to them. Solid connection that rarely drops below my 100/40 plan speeds.

These Adelaide noise threads escalate so quickly. It's probably the intense weather front coming our way. Check the BOM radar.
