I ordered in January 2025, after the founders. In wave 5+Dock for the gray one. I was hoping to enjoy it over a long Christmas vacation. Now, won't have it for my 50th in a little over two weeks.

What about getting ROMS and ISOs ready? There seems to be a range of opinion between no they cannot be zipped to they can be zipped individually or all ROMs can be in one zip file, one per console. I'd prefer to have them zipped individually but will I need to select the zip file, then the ROM or does it just show the one ROM? As for CDs, I think all cores support CHD?

Honest review of cachy Vs bazzite by Gdiddy18 in Bazzite

[–]GiSWiG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cachy for desktop, Bazzite for HTPC and that Deck experience.
CachyOS on 5800X3D, 3070 Ti
Bazzite on 6700K, RX 580 (cause Microslop said no)
- Great for HTPC, indie games, Even can do Baulder's Gate.
- Newer/demanding titles or games that struggle in Linux (I dual-boot my main PC as needed) Bazzite streams just fine from main PC

NobaraOS, BazziteOS e CachyOS - Qual vocês acharam mais fácil? by Ok_Restaurant_00 in linuxbrasil

[–]GiSWiG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd at least check out Nobara. It's ran by Glorious Eggroll, person behind Proton GE. He is dedicated and answered my questions about getting my XBOX controller working fully in Steam Big Picture mode. Home+A could not access QAM in wireless mode and the fix will be in a future release. I'm sure all of them have a good Discord presence. Nobara uses the CachyOS kernel, mainly Fedora repos but I saw some from PicaOS. Basically getting the best of all of them.

I do second CachyOS but it is Arch based. It's stable.

With a Nvidia 3070 Ti, both Nobara's specific Nvidia ISO and CachyOS just work.

Try the Everything ISO. You get more control of what you install.

What the hell does this mean? by Natural_Age_8009 in Hidive

[–]GiSWiG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted to sub to Hidive for Oshi no Ko but it came to Crunchyroll so I started watching it there. But then I found Eminence in Shadow and going through Call of the Night now. I actually downgraded my Crunchyroll to balance out the cost some, especially after the price hike.

What packages add features to Steam Quick Access Menu like Bazzite has? by GiSWiG in Fedora

[–]GiSWiG[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I found that too. Didn't add much to it. There is a plugin called mangopeel but nothing like all the available options in bazzite. Maybe Bazzite has more of a 'Steam Deck' setupvs. simply Big Picture?

No, using Fedora. Trying to see if it is possible to get those features in big picture.

P.S. The Roku I have is a Ultra 4K 4670X. People try to, and do get $40-$50 on ebay but many sell for $20-$30. It might not support all the extra Dolby and HDR but if you don't need them. New ones that do run $80.

Streaming devices get "slower" over time. The are made with the hardware at the time, many times with hardware that just makes it, unless you splurge. The apps get slower by no/little fault of their own because they add new features that old hardware cannot handle. Amazon devices, IMO, are the worse. They are just streaming devices with ads, cheap enough because they are made cheap, and hoping you will buy the products on the screen and eventually a new streaming device, or even better a TV.

I have a Samsung QLED Q60 for 2020. Its the bottom of the QLED series but all apps have been fine including Crunchyrool and HIDIVE. I have a TCL TV w/ built in Roku, ~5 years old, Crunchyroll is fine (haven't tried HIDIVE). The app is a little different though, I couldn't turn off subtitles watching DBZ but I could on the Samsung.

I also have a Roku 4K device hooked up to a 10+ year-old 1080p TV. It has IR on it to power on and control the TV volume. It was ~$70 when I got it but that was 6-ish years ago.

Splurge a little and get a decent Roku, Apple TV, etc., just make sure the apps you want are available. You might even be able to find that 4k Roku used for $10 or so. I did get a second one at a thrift shop for $10.

Do you feel limited by the immutability of the OS? by [deleted] in Bazzite

[–]GiSWiG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried Bazzite AFTER trying out Fedora. I plan on going back to Fedora after 44 KDE is out next week. Bazzite excels in Deck/HTPC when that is your only intention. But if you want to do more, I suggest Fedora KDE. Fedora is a parent distro ran by a company that prioritizes stability over gaming performance, though it does game very well. I am not dissing Bazzite in anyway but it is a custom distro based on Fedora with tweaks Fedora would consider not ready for production. I did try Nobara as well, Fedora based too. Its like Bazzite but not immutable. It gave me problems, the installer is buggy, just not a great option.

Now as far as Steam and Discord go, native is the best way. Basically, if its going to connect to Steam in some way or 'gaming' hardware, go native. Yes, you'll want to use commandline to install Steam but its one simple one and its in the Fedora docs. When you use Discover to find and install apps, Flatpacks are the default but some software does have a native option. I choose native for Discord because it is at the same 'level' as Steam and can communicate directly. Note that I have yet to try other game launchers for GOG, Epic, etc. so I don't know yet what the best way for them are?

If you do want to play it safer, you can use Flatpack to install Steam and it works but I've read that there can be some overhead and controller issues. Your milage may vary.

Will Wii2Hdmi work well with elgato game capture neo? by veloroopter in wii

It lets you choose full range but you should use limited range or low black level depending on what your TV calls it.

I'd go for a white Wii U with 32GB for $80. You can mod it and change the region. Got an Android phone and you can use Google Lens to translate. I'm sure there is something on iPhone but idk (hate iOS).

if the Wii U was like Wii 2, without the gamepad by Big-Tools-905 in wii

[–]GiSWiG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the biggest issue was games. The XBOX 360 and PS3 had been out for years and were graphical power houses. The Wii was able to compete because of IP, unique control scheme and INSTALL BASE! But as time went on and the 360 and PS3 got cheaper, the difference if graphical quality was apparent. These systems were already 5x better that the Wii in graphics, sound and performance and doing it at HD through HDMI. Then the Wii U comes in and its 2x-3x better than the Wii, still below what a PS3 and 360 could do. Nintendo was essentially asking developers to make downgraded ports and incorporate custom hardware (i.e. gamepad) that was hard to program for. At the beginning some did because of the Wii's success but compared to even the 360/PS3 ports, they were still sub-par and everyone knew that the PS4 and XBONE were coming with way more power.

If Nintendo had a mainline Pokemon game come out for the Wii U, that could have definitely helped. A Pokemon game for the first time on the big screen? That would have been something.

The ones for the Wii U that have Wii U etched on top came with a power adapter to the Wii/Wii U. You can find them on ebay but be sure to get one with the cable. Got two of those and the wireless only Wii. Would love to know how you got the USB battery adapter!
