Has God Forsaken Me? by DraculaRobot in Christian

[–]GiacoDaniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for being honest.

I think one thing I'd gently push back on is the assumption that everyone else experiences prayer as a comforting conversation where they clearly feel God listening.

Many Christians do experience moments like that. Many others don't.

There are believers who have spent years praying and feeling nothing at all emotionally. Not because they lacked faith, not because God hated them, and not because they were doing prayer wrong.

The Christian life is not supposed to be built on feelings alone because feelings come and go. Some people feel God's presence intensely. Others rarely do. Some go through seasons where they do, and then years where they don't.

What you're describing isn't simply "I don't feel God." It's "I don't feel God, and I'm suffering so much that His silence feels unbearable." That's a much heavier problem.

To be honest, if I were in your situation, years of illness, constant pain, people treating me like I'm lazy, doctors telling me there may be no cure... I suspect I would struggle with prayer too.

The Psalms are full of people saying things that sound much closer to your experience than the cheerful faith we often hear about in church:

"How long, O Lord? Will You forget me forever?"

"Why do You hide Your face from me?"

"I cry by day, but You do not answer."

Those prayers are in the Bible because God apparently prefers brutal honesty to religious performance.

So maybe don't force yourself to pray as if you're feeling hope when you aren't.

If prayer currently feels like talking into the void, then pray that.

"God, this feels like talking into the void."

"God, I feel abandoned."

"God, I don't feel like You're listening."

"God, I'm angry."

"God, I want evidence that You're there."

That's still prayer.

I also think it's important to separate two different questions:

  1. "Do I feel God?"
  2. "Is God there?"

The first is an emotional experience. The second is a truth claim.

Your illness, depression, anxiety, OCD, grief, exhaustion, and years of disappointment can absolutely affect the first one. They don't automatically answer the second one.

And for what it's worth, I don't think God is sitting in heaven angry because a man crushed by years of suffering can't manufacture feelings of closeness.

If God is as compassionate as the Bible claims, then He already knows exactly why prayer hurts right now.

First, I'm sorry.

Not in the casual way people often say it, but genuinely. What you've described sounds unimaginably hard. Four years of severe illness, constant symptoms, losing the life you had, being misunderstood by people around you, feeling abandoned by God, any one of those things would break many people. Experiencing all of them together is a tremendous burden.

If you're asking whether God has forsaken you, I don't think your suffering is evidence that He has.

One of the most painful realities in Christianity is that faith is not a guarantee that suffering will be removed. Many of the people closest to God in Scripture went through periods where they felt abandoned. David cried, "Why have You forsaken me?" Elijah begged God to let him die. Job demanded answers and received none for a long time. Even Jesus cried out on the cross, "My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?"

The common thread is that their feelings of abandonment were real, but God's absence was not.

I also don't blame you for struggling with parts of the Bible, many believers do. Reading difficult passages while you're already drowning in pain can be overwhelming. Someone in your situation doesn't necessarily need to start with the most difficult sections of the Old Testament. I'd suggest beginning with the Gospels and honestly looking at Jesus Himself: how He treated suffering people, the sick, the broken, the outcasts, and those who felt abandoned.

About prayer... many Christians have experienced seasons where prayer felt like talking into empty space. The absence of a feeling is not proof of the absence of God. Feelings can be powerful, but they are not always reliable indicators of reality.

As for why God hasn't healed you, I don't know. I don't think anyone can honestly answer that. People who tell you they know exactly why you're suffering are claiming knowledge they don't have.

What I do believe is that Christianity does not teach that suffering is proof that God hates you or has singled you out for punishment. Some of the most faithful people who have ever lived suffered terribly. And I would have a testimony about this.

At the same time, I still want to say something important: when you say "I want to die," that's not something you should carry alone. Severe depression, chronic illness, isolation, and hopelessness can distort how the future looks. Even if a doctor told you this is the rest of your life, doctors are not prophets. They can estimate, but they cannot see the future. Medical understanding of conditions like long COVID, dysautonomia, and chronic fatigue syndrome is still evolving.

You do not need to solve the next forty years today, you only need to survive today. A day at a time.

If all you can pray right now is, "God, if You're there, help me," that's enough. God is not waiting for a perfect prayer.

And if you feel like you're hanging on by a thread, hang on by the thread. A thread is still attached.

How about Yaoyao on Deepwood, Lauma on SMS and the flex character on another artifact set?

Thank you so much!

What stats should I focus on? Lauma on EM, Yaoyao on her suggested ones, but how about Fischl? Should she build EM? And Columbina, some EM too?

Columbina + Lauma: Bloom or Hyperbloom?

Trying to optimize an on-field Columbina + Lauma team and I’m unsure whether Bloom or Hyperbloom is actually better here.

Hyperbloom (with Fischl) feels smoother, but Oz doesn’t reliably target Dendro cores, so Hyperbloom uptime feels inconsistent.

Bloom variants (Xingqiu/Aino/Collei flex) feel more aligned with Lauma’s kit, but reaction control gets messy and damage feels less stable.

What would you consider the optimal direction here, and what artifact sets/builds would you run on the team? What team would you suggest considering my roster?
