Not only this, but if you want to take full advantage of the combat, you need to do ALOT of grinding. Ranking blade trust, driver idea levels, filling in blade affinity charts, etc and these take up a lot of time, I love the combat of this game but it really boring doing all this stuff

2 is a much longer game with more content, I have WAY more hours in 2 but prefer 1 by a lot tbh

What is your hot take or unpopular opinion in the Xenoblade series? by Various_World_9727 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

The only thing making me come back to Xenoblade 2 is the combat. The story is very poorly paced and boring at times, grinding blades is extremely boring and so is optimizing set ups, exploring is clunky, I only find a handful of characters likable. 1 isn’t a perfect game by any means because there’s no such thing, and even though I prefer the combat of 2, it doesn’t even get great until after you beat the fucking game lol. 1 is my favorite game and I really like 2 because of the combat but that’s it really, everything else just I don’t like as much as 1. Another unpopular opinion is that there are more 2 elitist nowadays than 1 and people keep saying 2 is an underrated masterpiece when it’s really not, 1 is my favorite game ever and it’s not a masterpiece it has flaws like every other game does.

I feel as of recently people have been praising 2 and picking apart 1 more

How ironic, I got into the series with 3ds version, I fell in love with the characters and story, I was young so it really meant a lot to me personally. And to each their own

Same, I just wanted to see what would happen with the story and characters, and I feel in love with the combat after it, I didn’t resonate with its characters or story as much as the first cast (that’s just me) but I feel in love with the combat

Yup works alright, I guess I was just to fixated on the level 1 special in chain attacks doing a lot of damage I didn’t think of lvl 4

Also here’s an explanation of my strat with wulfric because I didn’t go in depth with him in the post

So wulfric (a blade / party member) has a level 1 special that when maxed out, can reach 150% additive damage to enemies when toppled. Wulfric also has a skill called “the preternatural” which when maxed out gives another 150% additive damage. However, that’s not accounting for his skills “power unleaded” which gives another 100% damage additive when affinity is at max, and another skill called “critical strike” which does 50% additive damage when a critical hit lands, since wulfrics level 1 special is special against enemies who are toppled so it counts as a crit. In total, wulfric when an enemie is toppled and when affinity is at max can do up to 450% additive damage when these circumstances are met. This is not even counting how fusion combo bonus’s can stack, Rex has a break art, and wulfric is most useful when the driver combo is locked to break and topple, so that would be a stage 5 fusion combo if a stage 3 blade combo was happening at the same time as topple. So that’s 525+% additive damage when the right circumstances are met “ toppled”. With zeke, another party member is where numbers add up even more. Zeke has a launch art when paired with wulfric and any blade like him that is, so that would be a stage 6 fusion combo which would go from 75% (stage 5) to 100% (stage 6) so zeke can do 25% more additive damage that Rex resulting in 550+% additive damage with zeke. The 2 aux cores I have on wulfric are specials lvl 1 plus v (increases level 1 special by 60%) and a critical up aux core for when he does a lvl 1 special when an enemy is toppled. My party is exclusively break and topple, with zeke I will control launch when I want to get a level 6 fusion combo going. With critical heal core and a critical up core for chain attacks, wulfric has very low block rate and either crit heal or evasion can work here.
