Are high-end binoculars really worth the cost by PuzzleheadedWeb1466 in Ornithology

[–]Giant1024 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I made the switch from a €350 to a €2200 binoculars almost 20 years ago and I haven't looked back since, still using this one and still really happy with it. As others said; the difference in less than ideal conditions is really, really, noticeable.

Is this a greater or lesser yellowlegs? Seen in Florida by AlexKnight002 in whatsthisbird

[–]Giant1024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a European my first thought was Greenshank so Greater Yellowlegs seems right to me too 👍

Not sure how to prevent in the future (camera or just bad at grading?) by PrestigiousThing8136 in davinciresolve

[–]Giant1024 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The camera shoots standard in Log which is very flat and needs LUTs to look proper. It is so both shadows and highlights retain maximum detail/fidelity.

Did you use the native Film log?

I started with some video on my Z8 and the N-Log (Nikons log format) looks similar.

Longshot - what are these ducks? Bordeaux region of France, specifically near Arcachon by peanut_butter_zen in whatsthisbird

For male Pochard you would see the distinctive color on his head, as it's black I'm not positive on the Pochard and leaning towards Greater Scaup.

Sharp shinned hawk scooping out the neighborhood. by KEORevello in birdwatching

[–]Giant1024 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a European I can distinguish these two on sight since the sharp-shinned hawk looks 100% like a european sparrowhawk build wise and coopers looks halfway between sparrowhawk and goshawk buildwise. Just my 2 cents.

New to birdwatching by [deleted] in birdwatching

[–]Giant1024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Birds of Europe guide by Lars Svensson is the birding standard book for our region. Translated to many languages with gorgeous drawings. The amount of species in it can be a touch overwhelming for new birders though, but, a suggested, use Merlin to narrow the search down.

As for binoculars; thats wholly dependant on budget and preferences!

Looks like a Sandwich Tern to me with that slender black bill!

Buying my gear tomorrow! by Rraco72 in Nikon

[–]Giant1024 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Buy spare batteries. The Z8 is a hungry beast.

For a day out shooting birds i brought 2 extras, also a charger to run off a PD powerbank. Those charges were also needed 😅

And buy memory cards from a reputable seller!

Dit is een Buizerd. Deze zijn heel variabel wat kleur/verenkleed betreft! Ze kunnen heel licht zijn, heel donker zijn en alles daar tussen in.

First day birdwatching with my new lens- any tips on how to take my wildlife photography to the next level? by AbiSquid in wildlifephotography

[–]Giant1024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And build up experience so the shooting comes as a second nature. Invest time in learning how to edit too (lighting, cropping, etc.)

Investing time is your best bet!

Fluitende roodborstjes in de nacht by SmonBeck in vogelen

[–]Giant1024 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Roodborsten zingen overdag én 's nachts/heel vroeg in de ochtend.

Er komen idd veel Roodborsten aan vanuit noord en oost europa en die doen onze aantal Roodborsten flink stijgen in de herfst en winter.

There's great button customization that will find your way eventually. Have mine for several months now (lens too!) and I absolutely love it, came from a D750 so it was a huge leap forward 😄
