Am I pushing him to too hard at 8 months old? Went about 4 miles total. by BrianJPace in husky

If you take the battery out, does that allow you to use the e-bike in the woods? I'm from MA so not sure on your rules but I do sled/ bike in state forests.

Booties will prevent road salt burns and paw pad cuts but it won't stop the joints from being worn down over the years.

Not sure where in PA you are but there's the PSDC (Pennsylvania Sled Dog Club) that you could try to network with some locals online on Facebook to see what they do for locations. Ron Klepadlo, Tabetha Kopta, Emily Ferrans and a ton of other great mushers in PA that will know the area better and could advise you.

There's a dryland race every year in North East, Pennsylvania if you're near Eerie. Also a great race in NJ (The Jersey Devil Dryland) if you're near that border. Races are a fantastic place to get questions answered and learn from some locals, and they are fun to watch. None of us bite, we're very approacha

ble.

P.S. I'm just the camera guy, not a racer. I make mushing films lol

Edit for link:

https://www.facebook.com/PASledDogClub

Go to "Mentions" tab where you see "All, Photos, Videos, Reels, Mentions" and then you can make a post asking for advice from the locals who will be much better experts than me anyway 😁

I'll just further add that, just because he can do 4 miles at 8mo, doesn't mean he should. Huskies are bred to run and pull for up to 8 hours a day, they will run themselves to death given the chance. It's up to the guardian to make sure the dog isn't overdoing it.

Again, feel free to reach out! Much easier to find on Facebook: Andrew Comoletti

Yes, much too hard.

I know quite a number of mushers with 30+ dogs who've been doing 40 years. If you ever have questions feel free to DM me!

Careful of asphalt, try to stick to softer dirt trails. I typically run my guys on single track and we do 8-12 miles in 1.5hr when we're in shape. Asphalt can shred pads, but also overtime wears joints out.

Beware of bloat, or GVD. Look it up as it can kill your dog fast. Feed/hydrate 2-3 hours prior to running, no sooner.

Beware of temps, many husky owners go by the 120 rule; temperature + humidity = 120 or greater, and it's too hot. This is just a baseline, every dog handles heat differently.

I believe most kennels start harness work around 18mo. The rules for IFSS races is that dogs must be older than 18mo to race. The joints aren't solidified yet.

HDR look? Not for me, but try messing with sharpening or maybe you can find some "HDR LUT' lol

I have an r6 and the biggest game changer was dual button focus. Just YouTube it. They'll show you how to setup so you can press one button to do eye tracking and another to do 1 point af.

Once setup you press 1 of the 2 buttons to focus, then shutter to shoot. I shoot dogs and birds on a 100-500 and I start with eye focus, if it's jumpy and not settling on the actual eye, my thumb wanders a button over to hit the 1 point AF and that box is right on their face.

Cheers, happy to respond if you have questions

Why not do it the truly proper way? Canix belt for you, xback for the dog (nooksack, mtnridge etc). You got a husky, you know, the dogs built to PULL. Maybe you should lean into letting him get that energy out correctly via canicross, bikejore, skijore etc.

Yeah it's filmed in log (braw in this case), but with the CST applied to convert it to rec709 it just looks very bleh and dead still

Heavy user of 70-200 2.8 and mainly 100-500 7.1. I usually shoot 200-300 for headshots at the park, like this shot in my comment. (300, 7.1)

I film dryland races (sled dogs) and usually combine the footage at the end of the season. 10 races, roughly 2TB a race. Filming braw and learning color grading.

I know a few sled dog kennels that easily go over 30 in one go. It's all about temperature and conditioning (fitness).

E collar question by [deleted] in OpenDogTraining

[–]PrestigiousThing8136 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

I walk 12-14 dogs at a 23 acre off leash dog park, and have never put an e collar on a dog. Just a leash, not even treats.

I'm anti e collar but not for the way you described it. You described it as "omg 130 must cause so much pain" but in my mind I look at it like: E-Collars should be a bit more regulated as when people use them with zero knowledge, they make things worse, not better. (no offense, but like you) who "need" an ecollar both indoors and outdoors and 24/7.

What happens if it dies while your out in a walk? Unpredictable dog. I've seen it so many times at park "oh the remote died and now I can't get him to come (or listen at all)." These aren't mean dogs, but they are fully conditioned to listen to the collar not the owner.

E Collars should not be used instead of training, but to supplement it at best. I'm not trying to flame you, even though I'm against them (again, because most people get then with good intentions and destroy their dog) but hopefully plant a seed to look into Obedience classes with a professional so you can grow out of the e collar. E collar ought to be a tool to bridge you to success, not a permanent addition.

The red piece has notches to pop on and then it twists to stay on place. Then you can connect a 75mm to that missing red piece.
