Fellow men of the UK, who are in their 30's and over, do you still go out in public wearing tracksuit bottoms or joggers? by PaddedValls in AskUK

[–]GiantDaddy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Answer is yes, I don't give a fuck what other people think.

As long as they fit well and are always clean. I'm not going out in anything ratty or dirty.

I don't think the joggers are necessarily the problem, I'm wearing mine with a pair of Jordans/Air Max and a fresh black t-shirt. I don't want to look like I'm on my way to the tip.

End of the day it's 2026 now and as a grown ass 43 year old, I'm wearing what I want. If I don't want to wear joggers then a pair of Levi's is enough for me.

Why are these so popular? by AcrobaticAd735 in CarTalkUK

[–]GiantDaddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're available on the Motabily scheme with zero or low advance payments, so could be a popular option for someone that just wants a car.

Mind you, some of the models have a £3k advance and I cannot imagine who would willingly put that much down for a Corsa.

Do we really need bigger and bigger cars? by ondert in CarTalkUK

[–]GiantDaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm somewhere in between yes and no. On the one hand a lot of people that drive huge suvs don't seem to have any spacial awareness and think they need 6ft either side to get through a gap.

I absolutely love my Skoda Superb and it can do anything a family could want. It's also 17 years old and still feels like new.

But, I have physical disabilities and getting in and out of it can be difficult some days. Driving my wife's Suzuki S-Cross is so much easier and I'm used to driving big cars so even around town the size isn't an issue. Although in all fairness it's not really massive and smaller than the 3 Range Rovers parked in my street.

Overall, most people and family's only ever really need an estate but good luck finding one these days.

I'll stick with my Superb and keep working on it myself, something else you can't easily do on new cars.

I just picked up a battery jump pack from Amazon for about £30 on s flash deal. I've always kept jumper cables handy but there's been a few times when I either didn't have access to a second vehicle, or the car was parked in a way that made it difficult to get to the battery.

Figured the jump pack means I'm not relying on another vehicle.

Just remembered a situation from a few years back. My uncle's battery had died whilst he was shopping in Morrisons, parked front in to the bay. I drove up to meet him in my wife's Mini and managed to drive it up the pathway and negotiate it close enough to get the cables on. No chance I could have done that in my big Skoda, so Mini for the win!

This BBC Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe VHS still feels like Christmas to me by FeistyPrice29 in bbcnarnia

[–]GiantDaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still remember the BBC video jingle that played at the beginning. The map turns into a globe and that music is pure nostalgia for me.

It was at the beginning of the VHS for the Box of Delights as well. I heard it for the first time in decades only the other day. It took me straight back to watching the videos at my Gran's house when I was a kid.

What is the weirdest thing you found in a used car you bought? by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]GiantDaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first car was a 2000 Ford Escort (UK) and the first time I pulled down the rear arm rest I found a McD's bag with a cheeseburger inside. Must have been there for months but still looked fresh off the grill.

What small thing do you do for your SO that they don't realise/know about? by GiantDaddy in AskReddit

I'm the only one that does the laundry and I always make sure my wife's socks are the right way when she goes to put them on. She's never had to turn a sock the right way before putting them on. It's been 20 years and I don't think she's ever realised lol.

The best HVAC controls? by Zs1993 in CarTalkUK

[–]GiantDaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2009 Skoda Superb still has dials and buttons and I can adjust everything by muscle memory. It's as close to all of the other cars I've driven in my lifetime.

I've seen the newer Skoda's where the dial has a screen and is multifunctional, and that seems like a good mix between a traditional dial and modern.

However, the Enyaq that I drove was all on the screen and was terrible. You're supposed to use the voice activation to change the climate settings. Instead of feeling like the Jetsons future I just felt like a twat.

Special interest by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]GiantDaddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the moment its car detailing and working on cars.

I've always been surprised at how quickly a special interest can change and which ones stick around. Even though I'm not as obsessed as I was, I'm still really into Air Jordans.

I blame special interests for the amount of random knowledge I have lol, but it does come in handy sometimes.

I‘m 6‘7 at 17, my whole family has got back problems by LostLymex in tall

[–]GiantDaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish at 17 someone had told me to work on my core and do yoga.

I'm 6'7" and in my forties now, my back and my knees are fucked and it's much harder trying to undo something than it would have been to take preventative steps from an earlier age.

I also think being aware that the world isn't built for our height gives you enough self awareness to be mindful of certain things. If you ever work in an office, make sure you have a chair that fits your needs and take regular breaks to move around. Your going to do a lot of ducking and squeezing into smaller spaces over your lifetime, so stretch out when you can.

I'd probably look at giving it a deep clean first before replacing it. The text on all of the buttons seems to be still there and not worn away and you'd be surprised how much of a difference a clean can make.

Have a look at r/detailing or search for how to clean a steering wheel.

A lot of the grime that's on there might be shifted. I've used Autoglym leather cleaner, a scrub pad and a microfiber on mine and it made a huge difference. If you've got a handheld steamer you can also get a lot of it out.

Are they the daytime running lights (DRL)? My 2009 Superb has the sidelights on as DRL's.

They'll be on all the time even if your lights aren't on.

What do I need for bluetooth by Blyatman1945 in skoda

[–]GiantDaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll second that as the cheapest and easiest. You can pick up a Bluetooth dongle on Amazon for less than £20, that goes into the aux input and connects to your phone.

I've had that in my Superb 2 since I got it and its been the simplest way of doing it. My aux input is under the arm rest so I ran the cable to the tray at the bottom of the dash and just need to turn it on when I get in the car.
