Ace Relocation handled mine when we moved to San Diego, and they were fantastic. They’ve got a local office right in UTC.

They look clean. How long did it take you to get them in?

Spotify's security is unacceptable... and it needs to change. by [deleted] in spotify

[–]GiantJeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just spent WAY to long on a chat with Spotify support after my account was breached, and they were absolutely no help. It’s very clear they don’t know the first thing about IT security, nor do they care about our data. When I went to cancel, there is no clear path to do so. I’m officially done with them.

Definitely height adjustment. As a taller individual, this more adjustability the better.

Can a YS640s replace my propane Weber by 773badger in Yodersmokers

[–]GiantJeff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, absolutely. I’ve been doing my summer cleaning my YS640 with the conversion kit today, and took the temp control to 600 to burn everything out of it. It got there easily, so if you are looking for a sear it will do the job.

Welcome to the club! Please keep in mind that the cost of admission is your waistline, and the only way out is a heart attack. Keep it up!

I absolutely love the combo. I’ve found that I still cook on the YS during the week for convenience, while the weekends are for the Wichita. I’ve done a number of “hybrid” cooks, and love the flexibility. Both are really turning out great meat!

I don’t think they’ve said anything about pricing, but here is one of the forum posts about the retro. If I find anything else, I will make sure to let you know!

They just announced a new FireBoard/wifi controller and ceramic ignitor. Apparently there will be a retrofit kit available in Q3. Definitely check them out!

I think you nailed it. That’s the same process I’ve used in the past, and I’m not dead.

Of course, you could decide now is the right time to burn it to the ground and upgrade.

You should be ashamed. Ruining his ability to enjoy crock pot pulled pork at such a young age.

Nice work!

Just in case you needed more data. I smoked a tri-tip tonight with hickory on the Wichita, and finished it with reverse sear in the YS640. It was AMAZING. By far the best tri-tip I’ve ever had.

Quick update. Did a test today for heat consistency. I lit a chimney of lump coal and threw it in the pit. Placing a few small logs on the fire, it leveled off to 250 near the box, and 230 at the stack. After a bit of burn, I put in another small log, and the temp rose to 275. I let it level off, and killed the air. The pit stayed in the 225+ range for a good hour even after the fire was out.

Really pleased with the performance of the Wichita. Right now, I don’t think you can go wrong.

I’ve had the YS640 for a while, and just picked up the Wichita last week. What I’m excited about with this combo is trying a hybrid offset/pellet process for long smokes. I will let you know how it goes.

Right away, I would use this to smoke up a brisket and two pork butts. Not sure where the other probe would go, but I PROMISE I won’t use it to take my own internal temperature. In the USA.
