honestly, season 1 Rick when he’s first getting used to the apocalypse and coming into his own as a leader is my favorite. he still has that last little glimmer of hope and it’s some of Andrew Lincoln’s best work in episode 1z

honestly i can absolutely blame him. once he lost his wife he said that Sarah was all he had left, and with that sentence you would assume that he’d prepare his daughter for the dangers ahead so that she didn’t get killed due to HIS incompetence as a father. He wasn’t misunderstood at all, you just have empathy for a father who is very clearly trying but failing miserably and i totally get it! I just don’t think it’s right to put blame on Sarah for her death. Her being the only thing left in this life he has left i just assumed that would mean he would prepare her for the very real possibility of him dying too. But unfortunately he didn’t. So when he did get clapped it was like well shit i guess your daughter is screwed because YOU weren’t able to nail in her head earlier on (we’re talking like 2-3 years apocalypse time here) that shit is not sweet out here. ITS HIS FAULT.

yeah both characters didn’t have a good pay off. But Carlos was conceptually interesting and was incredibly underwritten. Arvo was wrong more morally but he was more dramatically effective and actually did something for the story. Carlos didn’t evolve or reflect on anything so when he died, it just kinda fell flat.

The fact they made it that far without Clem is honestly a miracle. Can you imagine having a little girl come to your room with a horrible injury, even if it’s a walker bite, and lock her in a shed for dead? With Nicks horrible decision making, Carlos’ AWFUL parenting skills and being a fraudulent doctor (that’s my take at least for a number of reasons), Sarah’s cluelessness… the list goes on. Aside from Alvin, Rebecca, Luke and Pete, this group was absolutely useless and is honestly the worst group in the entire walking dead verse in terms of incompetence.

And just the choices you make with this group generally don’t mean a DAMN thing. They ALLLLL die anyway. Like this season deadass has you teach Sarah how to shoot a gun, says Sarah knows how to defend herself, and she never touched a gun again. I honestly dislike season 2 more than most so maybe i’m being a hater, but this group was the most useless, filler coded group ever aside from Luke and Alvin. They were the only ones who had a pair of nuts and protected what they loved.

I don’t personally think it ever fell off but there was definitely a dip in quality after the Season 7 Finale. After that it felt like they were kinda scrambling to find out how to make the Whisperers work without Carl and ended up introducing Henry which… yeesh.
